Academic Paper from the year 2021 in the subject Business economics - Investment and Finance, grade: 1,7, International School Of Management, Campus Frankfurt, language: English, abstract: This term paper will start with describing some basic characteristics of Coco-Bonds and their market behaviour. This first chapter should help to understand the product itself and its features. Afterwards the basic idea behind Basel III and resulting regulations under CRD and CRR are described and linked to Coco-Bonds as a product. In the last chapter it is discussed whether and under which circumstances Coco-Bonds belong to the equity capital of a bank and thus strengthen the equity base.After the financial crisis in 2008 one of the main objectives the regulatory- and supervisory authority had, was to strengthen and increase the equity base of banks. This should ensure a better preparation for coming crises. In October 2011 the Basel Committee set the stage for a financial product, allowing it to play a ma-jor role in building up regulatory equity capital, as defined in Basel III. The product to reach the regulatory requirements are Contingent Convertible Bonds (short: Coco-Bonds). These bonds are a niche financial product which, as a result of the increasing regulatory requirements, in recent years were often issued by banks. Although these securities are issued as a bond with a fixed coupon, in case of a certain event, the Coco-Bonds are converted into equity or are written off. Due to this, Coco-Bonds often pay a high coupon rate, which could make them, especially within the currently low interest rate environment, look like an attractive investment. However a high coupon payment always means a related risk.

Akademische Arbeit aus dem Fachbereich BWL - Investition und Finanzierung, Universität Mannheim, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: In the first step of my analysis, I provide some descriptive statics of daily overnight and intraday returns in the German equity market. Followed by this, we will discuss evidence for differences in the return-/beta relation and make an answer to our first Hypothesis. Then we will go over to the momentum analysis and show their predictive power for momentum and reversal strategies based on overnight and intraday return signals and take a quick look on where it happens (intraday vs. overnight) like Baradehi et al. (2022) and Lou et al. (2015).For explaining the different behavior of stock returns, we first start with the basic idea of a multiple factor model where exists multiple priced risk factors whose covariance matrix varies between the day and night. In case of different behavior of intraday and overnight returns there are existing different types of risk factors which can predict the expected stock return. To explain the relation between returns and beta we determine that the risk-return relationship is positive only during specific times, for example in January (Tinic and West, 1984), during months of low inflation (Cohen et al., 2005) or days with news about economic trends like inflation or unemployment. By looking at returns of the CDAX decomposed into its intraday and overnight returns we see a distinctively different behavior.

Es bedarf herauszufinden, was unter den Begriffen „Private Equity“ und „Venture Capital“ zu verstehen ist und welche Bedeutung sie besitzen. Des Weiteren soll ermittelt werden, welche Funktionen die Finanzierungsinstrumente für Unternehmen spielen. Zudem ergibt sich die Frage, in welchen Situationen sie eingesetzt werden und wie der dazugehörige Implementierungsprozess verläuft. Wie sieht die aktuelle Situation auf dem deutschen Markt aus und welche Akteure und Unterschiede gibt es bei den Instrumenten? Und nehmen sie Einfluss auf die Volkswirtschaft? Aber auch welche Risiken bringt eine solche Finanzierung mit sich? Verdeutlicht werden soll dies zusätzlich durch eine Gegenüberstellung von Private Equity und Venture Capital. Es wird geprüft ob und welche Unterschiede zwischen den Formen existieren. Zur Veranschaulichung dienen zwei Beteiligungsbeispiele aus dem jeweiligen Bereich. Der Aufbau dieser Arbeit gliedert sich in einige Hauptbereiche. Zu Beginn werden die Grundlagen erläutert. Dabei werden die Begrifflichkeiten „Private Equity“ und „Venture Capital“ erläutert. Aus Gründen der Verständnisausführung wird weitergehend auf die Funktionen beider Formen eingegangen. Weiterführend werden der Einsatz der Finanzierungsinstrumente anhand eines Finanzierungsphasenmodells und einem Beteiligungsprozess aufgegriffen, welcher zum einen die Unternehmensperspektive darstellt und zum anderen die Investorensicht. Im Weiteren wird näher auf die Relevanz der Marktsituation, -akteure und -einteilungen eingegangen. In dem sechsten Kapitel folgt die wirtschaftliche Bedeutung von Private Equity und Venture Capital. Anschließend werden die relevanten Risiken identifiziert. Diese untergliedern sich in selbstbestimmbar und fremdbestimmte. Folglich wird eine Gegenüberstellung vorgenommen. Dabei werden die Beteiligungsformen miteinander verglichen, um Gemeinsamkeiten als auch Unterschiede zu verdeutlichen. Kapitel acht bietet zur Veranschaulichung zwei Beispiele aus der Praxis. Diese zeigen zum einem einen final erfolglosen Private Equity Einsatz und zum anderen ein sehr erfolgreiches Venture Capital Exemplar.Abschließend wird im letzten Kapitel ein Fazit über Analyse und Vergleich von Private Equity und Venture Capital gezogen. Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2022 im Fachbereich BWL - Investition und Finanzierung, Note: 1,3, FOM Hochschule für Oekonomie und Management gemeinnützige GmbH, Hochschulstudienzentrum Hamburg, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Obwohl das Leasing schon seit Jahren eine etablierte Form der Finanzierung ist, gibt es immer noch sehr viele Menschen, die sich nicht ausreichend mit dieser alternativen Form der Finanzierung auskennen. Besonders im unternehmerischen Investieren ist Leasing eine Möglichkeit, die genauer betrachtet werden sollte. Durch die Digitalisierung und einen sich immer rasanter beschleunigenden technischen Fortschritt ist der Bedarf an technischen Produkten sehr hoch, sodass ein entsprechendes Budget für den Kauf vorhanden sein muss. Ist nicht genug Budget verfügbar, muss das Produkt finanziert werden. Neben dem klassischen kreditfinanzierten Kauf stellt Leasing eine gute Alternative dar.

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2023 im Fachbereich BWL - Unternehmensgründung, Start-ups, Businesspläne, Note: 1,3, Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen, Veranstaltung: Corporate Banking, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Ziel dieser Seminararbeit ist es, einen Überblick über die Beteiligungsformen Private Equity und Venture Capital und deren Unterschiede aufzuzeigen. Folglich soll der Venture-Capital-Prozess in Bezug auf die unterschiedlichen Unternehmensphasen erklärt werden. Dazu sollen zunächst beide Beteiligungsformen definiert und voneinander abgegrenzt werden. Außerdem beschäftigen wir uns im fünften Kapitel mit einigen Praxisbeispielen und kommen im letzten Kapitel dann zu einem Fazit mit einem Ausblick auf die weitere Entwicklung. Start-up-Unternehmen und Unternehmensgründungen gewinnen aus volkswirtschaftlicher Sicht immer mehr an Bedeutung. Zusätzlich zur Schaffung von Arbeitsplätzen und Stärkung der Innovationskraft wird die Gründung von jungen Wachstumsunternehmen in Deutschland als zentrale Voraussetzung für zukünftigen Wirtschaftswachstum angesehen. Jedoch werden genau diese jungen Unternehmen von klassischen Finanzinstituten für zu risikoreich gehalten und mit einer zu geringen bilanziellen Ausstattung bewerten, um eine klassische Gründungsfinanzierung von der Bank zu erhalten. Gegenwärtig sind aber Start-up-Unternehmen in den Gründungsjahren auf genügend Kapital angewiesen, um eine nachhaltige Entwicklung ihres Unternehmens voranzutreiben. Allerdings stellt es junge Unternehmen vor eine Herausforderung, das notwendige Kapital von klassischen Finanzinstituten zu akquirieren. Ihr hohes Kreditausfallrisiko, Unternehmensinsolvenzrisiko und die schlecht bewertete bilanzielle Ausstattung ergeben eine sinkende Bereitschaft der Kreditvergabe oder zu hohe Kreditkosten. An dieser Stelle gewinnen alternative Finanzierungsformen, für diese jungen Unternehmen immer mehr an Bedeutung. Eigenkapitalfinanzierungen wie Private Equity und Venture Capital stellen zwei wichtige alternative Finanzierungsformen dar. Nun haben junge Unternehmen die Aufgabe, aus den Möglichkeiten die für sie in ihrer Phase der Entwicklung passende Finanzierungsmöglichkeit auszuwählen.

Private Equity und Venture Capital als nachhaltige Finanzierungsmethode für Start-ups

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2020 in the subject Economics - Finance, grade: 6.0/6.0, University of St. Gallen, language: English, abstract: This thesis examines the relationship between private equity firm and fund level characteristics and the performance of leveraged buyouts in the retail sector. More specifically, the three dimensions general partner experience, fund size, and the fund’s retail specialization are analyzed. The impact of the three characteristics on the investment performance proxied by money multiples and internal rates of return, as well as by the write-off probability of the buyout, is assessed by analyzing a sample of 10,376 buyouts conducted since 1993, of which 614 deals are transactions in the retail sector.According to Bloomberg News, the year of 2017 was known as the "Retail Apocalypse" with more U.S. retailers filing for bankruptcy than during the year of the financial crisis. By taking a closer look at the reasons for these defaults, one will quickly understand that the culprit might not solely be Amazon Inc. tapping on market share. Before their bankruptcies, numerous retail companies were bought and highly levered by private equity firms who neither were able to implement adequate operational improvements, nor product and sales innovations. The resulting collapses like the one of toy giant Toys"R"Us in September 2017, twelve years after its leveraged buyout by the mega funds of Bain Capital and KKR, lead to numerous store closings and job losses. Hence, there is certainly a need to understand the factors determining the success of private equity investments in the retail industry. This thesis aspires to establish a causal relationship between macroeconomic, firm, and fund level characteristics and buyout performance in the retail sector.

&lt;p&gt;This book takes a historical approach to explore data, algorithms, their use in practice through applications of AI in various settings, and all of the surrounding ethical and DEI implications. Summarizing our current knowledge and highlighting gaps, it offers original examples from empirical research in various settings, such as healthcare, social media, and the GIG economy.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The author investigates how systems relying on a binary structure (machines) work in systems that are instead analogic (societies). Further, he examines how underrepresented populations, who have been historically penalized by technologies, can play an active role in the design of automated systems, with a specific focus on the US legal and social system.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;One issue is that main tasks of machines concern classification, which, while efficient for speeding up decision-making processes, are inherently biased. Ultimately, this work advocates for ethical design and responsible implementation and deployment of technology in organizations and society through through government-sponsored social justice, in contrast with free market policies.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;/p&gt;This interdisciplinary text contributes to the timely and relevant debate on algorithmic fairness, biases, and potential discriminations. Bachelor Thesis from the year 2021 in the subject Business economics - Investment and Finance, University of applied sciences, Düsseldorf, language: English, abstract: The purpose of this paper is to introduce leasing as a financing alternative for IT equipment during the Corona pandemic and to provide an answer to the following research question: Did leasing gain relevance as a financing alternative during the Corona pandemic, and was it the appropriate type of financing for the companies?The Corona pandemic, which broke out in 2020, has endangered not only the health of many people but also the economic stability in Germany; many companies have become economically unstable as a result of the pandemic, as shown by the 4,8% drop in gross domestic product (GDP) in Germany. As a result, the federal government called for an economic shutdown to protect the population from the increasing number of Corona infections. The result was a massive drop in sales in many sectors like aviation and tourism. In addition, the German government's Corona Occupational Health and Safety Ordinance stipulates that employers are obliged to offer home offices, provided there are no operational reasons to the contrary. Therefore, the necessary IT equipment for the employees was usually unavailable and had to be procured. This is in direct contrast to the lack of liquidity of the companies due to the multiple slumps in sales. This resulted in resorting to alternative financing options, such as leasing.

Financing during the Covid-19-Pandemic. Is Leasing an Alternative Option for IT Equipment?

Seminar paper from the year 2018 in the subject Business economics - Investment and Finance, grade: 1.7, University of Hamburg, language: English, abstract: The work investigates the Equity Premium Puzzle as described by Siegel and Thaler in 1997. Investigations in the thesis are centered around the question of how behavioral economics can explain the anomalies of stock markets and the equity premium. As the research question implies, this work will examine solutions of the puzzle suggested from both the field of rational economics and behavioral economics. Due to a large number of various approaches to explain the puzzle over the past 30 years, this work will concentrate on a selected number of suggestions from various economists. I will examine assumptions and conditions of the solutions suggested, and analyze key theories applied in the resolutions. The quantitative foundation of models analyzed in this work will not be examined, as this would require detailed statistical and mathematical considerations. The work is structured as follows. I will to begin with outline the initial puzzle stated by Mehra and Prescott in 1985 and analyze key assumptions of their equilibrium model. Different resolutions of the puzzle suggested by rational and behavioral economics will then be examined, followed by an investigation of the empirical evidence behind the proposed solutions. A discussion will follow, and the author will reflect on the robustness and relevance of the puzzle. A conclusion will sum up the key elements of the work.
