La teoría de la argumentación es un campo de estudios relativamente joven. Su eclosión y sus primeros desarrollos tuvieron lugar durante la segunda mitad del s. XX. Hoy, en su relativa madurez, ya se encuentra reconocido y consolidado en los medios académicos interesados en la investigación, análisis y evaluación del discurso. Pero hay buenos motivos para volver sobre los textos que pautan o documentan ese amplio y complejo proceso de constitución e institucionalización, pues no solo han contribuido a las señas de identidad del estudio de la argumentación, sino que aún pueden suscitar ulteriores problemas e inspirar nuevas revisiones e investigaciones.&#13;&#13;LUI VEGA REÑÓN Catedrático de Lógica en la Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED). Director de la revista digital Revista Iberoamericana de Argumentación. Ha sido profesor visitante en diversas universidades, como Cambridge (Reino Unido), UNAM, UAM y Xalapa (México), Nacional de Colombia (Bogotá), Buenos Aires y Córdoba (Argentina), CEAR (Santiago de Chile) y Universidad de la República (Montevideo). Es responsable de programas y cursos de argumentación en estudios de máster y posgrado. Autor de numerosos artículos y varios libros sobre historia y teoría de la argumentación, como La trama de la demostración (1990), Las artes de la razón (1999), Si de argumentar se trata (2ª edición en 2007), y coeditor, en esta misma Editorial, del Compendio de lógica, argumentación y retórica (3ª edición en 016).

La teoría de la argumentación en sus textos

Gran parte de las relaciones sociales son consecuencia de actos economicos, como producir, intercambiar, distribuir y consumir bienes y servicios, los que necesariamente deben enmarcarse en un determinado orden juridico. It is to be expected that many people who are summoned for jury service will have some type of experience in its usage and may attempt to make reference to it. This leads to jury members searching for information about their case online. Public confidence in the jury system is waning whilst miscarriages of justice, as a result of misuse of the internet by jurors, is increasing. Recent case law has identified a variety of different types of jury impropriety and has confirmed the limitations imposed by the protection of the confidentiality of jury deliberations.How can the misuse be stopped? What can be defined as a misuse of the internet? Do only conscious findings count or even findings by chance? How do one deal with „stumbling“ over information? James Michael Corbett gives an analysis into the problem of internet misuse committed by jurors in a court of law. From a practical point of view, he considers how serious the problem of misuse of the internet by jurors is and discusses the arguments for and/or against different approaches to overcoming the problem. Abolishing the misuse is the only way to prevent victims of having to be put through the whole process a second time because the jury may be discharged along with a new jury being empanelled.
