The debut monograph from the inimitable photographer, exploring the strangeness lurking behind the ordinary in everyday life. Take a Picture, It Will Last Longer is a curated collection of Brooke DiDonato's singularly surreal photography. Evoking feelings of nostalgia or disorientation, DiDonato's work teeters between the familiar and the fantastical. Inspired by family homes in Ohio, her compositions challenge expectations of how space can be occupied. Torsos, legs and arms contort into uncanny arrangements across sofas and ascend into attics. Ordinary surroundings often have a compelling presence - white picket fences, corn fields, deserts and sidewalks become sites of unexpected psychological encounters as figures are subsumed by their environments. Her pictures are playfully titled - Growing Upward Has Its Downside, What to Expect When You're Expecting Nothing, and Went to Therapy but I'm Still in My Patterns - and poignantly touch upon contemporary anxieties and universal themes of love and loss. The most extensive collection of DiDonato's work to date, Take a Picture, It Will Last Longer brings together her most well-known bodies of work, including A House is Not a Home, alongside new works published here in print for the first time. A short introduction from writer Eleanor Sutherland provides an overview of DiDonato's practice, while an intimate conversation between Emmy award-winning filmmaker and writer Eve Van Dyke and Brooke's father, Bob DiDonato, offers a personal glimpse into her evolution as an artist. Fifty years after first publication, one of the most important photobooks of the 20th century returns, offering an intimate glimpse into the daily lives of the Roma community in the 1960s and 1970s. Josef Koudelka's Gypsies remains one of his best-known series, offering a unique survey of the lives of the Roma community across then-Czechoslovakia, Romania, Hungary, France and Spain between 1962 and 1971. Originally published in 1975, five years after Koudelka left Prague following the Soviet Union's invasion, Gypsies is a classic of documentary photography. Now returning in its original, hardback format, this timely new edition is as much a pioneering photoessay as it is a lesson in book making. Carrying only his equipment, a rucksack and sleeping bag, Koudelka journeyed between different village and encampments. His nomadic existence, defined by a sense of displacement, allowed him to gain the trust of the Roma communities he encountered. The resulting series eschews the often-derogatory depictions of the community to instead provide unparalleled insight into their world, shining a light on their traditions, struggles and routines. The Roma in these images were photographed mostly in a state that no longer exists, ruled by a regime that dissolved in 1989. With such few historical depictions, Gypsies is not only a testament to the beauty of photography, but a vital historical document of a community often relegated to the shadows. Arriving at a moment of contemporary unrest and social marginalization, Gypsies is a poignant reminder of the often bleak reality of the disenfranchised, and the power of photography to bear witness.

Hal Fischer: Seminal Works collects Gay Semiotics with Fischer's rarely seen early photography and features a range of essays that provide vital perspectives on the enduring themes of his work.In the late 1970s, as gay men in San Francisco were enjoying a new era of liberation following the Stonewall Riots, Hal Fischer made a signal photo-text project that categorized denizens of the Castro and Haight-Ashbury neighborhoods by social type. Sly and systematic, Fischer's Gay Semiotics portrays the sartorial codes of queer street style--earrings, handkerchiefs, jeans, or leather--that broadcast a range of desires to potential sexual prospects. Fischer annotated his black-and-white photographs with commentary about gay archetypes, such as the jock or the hippie, with an occasional sense of irreverence. The series was published as an artist's book in 1978 and quickly became an influential record of a libertine era before AIDS, the rise of internet dating apps, and tech industry-accelerated gentrification transformed queer life in San Francisco forever. The perfect primer on renowned Italian photographer Letizia Battaglia. Born in Palermo, Letizia Battaglia (1935-2022) took up journalism as a single mother, but discovered that it was easier to sell articles if she could also supply photographs. She became a news photographer for L'Ora, a Sicilian daily newspaper that took a stand against the Mafia and its political and economic connections. Between 1976 and 1991, she was a witness to some of the bloodiest events in Italian history, including the killing of judges, police officers and politicians. While these images brought her international recognition, she strongly opposed the label of 'Mafia photographer' and believed that her aim was to seek out life. She built up a many-sided portrait of her Sicilian homeland, developing a special sensitivity to women, girls and young children, and a deep empathy with those living in poverty. Her work stands as proof that both joy and suffering are part of the experience of being in the world.

Dionne Lee's first monograph is a powerful meditation on the tension between the landscape as sanctuary and site of violence for African Americans. Dionne Lee's work across photography, video, and collage spans themes of dispossession, loss, survival, and resilience. Lee's formal interventions and innovative darkroom techniques--including rephotographing found imagery from wilderness survival manuals and using graphite pencils to create inscriptions on her photographs of the landscape--create new narratives that reclaim the great outdoors. Covering a decade of her work from 2016 to the present, Dionne Lee: Currents features contributions by curator Eric Booker and award-winning poet Camille T. Dungy, offering a timely reckoning with land, memory, and identity. It stands as an essential statement on the medium's potential today.

Well known for his photography of landscapes and suburban housing, and for his use of detail and luminous color, acclaimed American photographer Todd Hido casts a distinctly cinematic eye across all that he photographs, digging deep into his memory and imagination for inspiration. Newly revised and expanded, Intimate Distance: Over Thirty Years of Photographs, A Chronological Album includes ten years of new work since the book's first publication, including breathtaking new images from his travels to Iceland, Norway, and Japan, where he brings both a familiar eye and an expansive new vision. Though Hido has published many smaller monographs of individual bodies of work, this gathers his most iconic images, along with many unpublished works to provide the most complete and comprehensive monograph charting his career. The book is organized chronologically, showing how his series overlap in exciting ways. David Campany introduces the work and looks at the kind of cinematic spectatorship the work demands. And Katya Tylevich muses on the making of each of Hido's major monographs, "The photographs lead as far as human-made roads go. They reach the periphery of utility wires, footprints, and paths already taken." From exterior to interior, surface observations to subconscious investigations, from landscapes to nudes, from America and beyond, this midcareer collection reveals how his unique focus has developed and shifted over time, yet the tension between distance and intimacy remains.

The first bilingual monograph dedicated to Sophie Rivera, a trailblazing artist at the center of feminist engagement, Latine art, and contemporary US photography.Renowned for her portraits of everyday Puerto Ricans taken from her home studio in Upper Manhattan, Sophie Rivera (1938-2021; born in New York) began her career in the 1970s, becoming part of a coalition of artists who sought to counter negative depictions of Latinos in US popular culture. These portraits, later exhibited under the title Revelations for a public art presentation in the New York City subway, as well as her street photographs, abstract cityscapes, graffiti art images, and experimental self-portraits, bolstered Rivera's standing as a trailblazing artist who engaged with feminist and political consciousness. Sophie Rivera: Double Exposures brings together photographs, contact sheets, and artist statements with vivid scholarship that place Rivera at the center of Latine and feminist art and within the history of contemporary photography in the US. Double Exposures is published on the occasion of the first museum survey dedicated to Sophie Rivera, presented by El Museo del Barrio, New York, in 2026.
