This book develops and defends a novel social epistemological account of indoctrination. It answers important epistemological, ethical, and political questions about what indoctrination is, why it is epistemically harmful, how it can be practiced, and how we should talk about indoctrination.The author presents three views related to the epistemology of indoctrination. First, he argues that indoctrination is most fundamentally a structural epistemic phenomenon which results in closed-minded beliefs. The sources of indoctrination are diverse: institutional structures, technological systems, ideological frames, and individual actions. What unites them is that they lead to the systematic failure to consider seriously the relevant alternatives to what we are taught, whether by accident or by design. Second, he makes the case that indoctrination is always wrong because it disrespects agents in their capacity as epistemic agents, even when it results in true belief. Third and finally, he contends that public indoctrination-ascriptions are political propaganda; they function to promote political agendas, which can, ironically, breed the conditions for indoctrination rather than forestall it.The Philosophy of Indoctrination is an essential resource for researchers and advanced students working in social and political epistemology, ethics, political philosophy, philosophy of education, and terrorism and radicalization studies.

In doing so, she argues that Irish literature, and the narratives it has created about law, have been used to re-assert and recomplicate Irish identities at sites of conflict and to interrogate the legitimacy of power and how it is exercised. Drawing on a range of texts including novels, poetry, plays, song and satire, Costello illustrates that Irish literature has acted as a decolonial and intersectional force in critiquing the institution of law and constructing national, linguistic and political identities in Ireland. Redressing Rape in War presents an innovative medico-legal framework for redressing conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV), integrating insights from transitional justice, restorative justice, and medical scholarship. Drawing on empirical research across three diverse settings-including interviews with victims and professionals in transitional justice and healthcare-this book critically examines the evolution of existing reparative measures and advances an interdisciplinary approach to justice and redress.

Through a health-centred perspective, this book explores the forensic, psychological, physical, and social consequences of CRSV, emphasising the cascading effects of embodied trauma and its impact on victims' long-term well-being. Recognising that traditional forms of reparations struggle to address the breadth of harm inflicted, this book forwards a vulnerability-based framework that enhances their effectiveness by acknowledging the relational dimensions of harm, and the role of informal and self-repair mechanisms.
