This Handbook is a charting exercise to determine contemporary patterns of Indian migration to Southeast Asia. It will determine two waves/sectors of the Indian migration process to Southeast Asia, high skilled migration and semi-skilled to low skilled migration. However, such a research project is not complete without understanding the context of social and political dilemmas of Indian communities in Southeast Asia as well as the interstitial spaces some Indian migrants or migrant communities might fall through as stateless Indians or Indian communities. The Handbook is premised largely on Indian-ASEAN, twenty-five years of partnering relations in diplomacy, politics, economy, people to people exchange, human capital development and exchange as well as coordinated infrastructural development. It reinforces the much-discussed ‘Look East’ and current ‘Act East’ initiatives of the Indian government, highlighting cooperation with the Southeast Asian and East Asian economies, as some political perspectives suggest, to counterbalance China’s economic influence in the region.

The Palgrave Handbook of Indian Migrants to South East Asia

This book attempts to explore how people locate themselves vis-a-vis others, objects and things within a time-space continuum. Furthermore, it contextually sheds light on the correlation between space embedded meanings and the sense of place. In this book, the preposition of place takes a closer examination of the relations between objects and things through the lens of meaning reconfiguring moves and interactions in time and space. The relations between entities/objects/things offers bi-directional insights into orientations as is impacted by emotional, perceptional and preferential state of worlding among other attributes that direct people's positioning within contexts. The project Prepositions of Placethat emerges as key within this book follows and attends to questions of how people, structures and landscapes spatially affect one another? What relations and meaning emerge and sub­-
merge within space-be it natural or artificial? In the process, visual signs, the (re)emergence of infrastructures and contextual speech reshape the building blocks for place making.
Through artistic works and lens, the project metaphorically and figuratively express how personal senses from sight, touch and hearing collapse and combine to orient individuals in space and time. The relation of individuals through the space-time continuum also offers external stimuli to contrive and build an immersive spatial experience.

IPP Studies in the Frontiers of China’s Public Policy

This book explores the changes in the degree of toughness of China’s foreign policy choices in bilateral international disputes over the period from 1992 to 2022. Chinese popular nationalism, due to its considerable social mobilization capacity, may have the potential to influence the Chinese government's foreign policy choices through a bottom-up approach, especially in the context of the Chinese government's increasing reliance on nationalism for its regime legitimacy. The author establishes an analytical framework for China’s foreign policy choices in bilateral disputes, emphasising the influence of three factors: China’s perception of the importance of the bilateral relations, its perception of the priority of the interests involved in the dispute, and its perception of the severity of the dispute. Through a series of case studies, the author demonstrates that the influence of Chinese popular nationalism on government policy is limited. This book offers fascinating insights for policymakers, journalists and scholars.

Digital Transformation and Sustainability in South Asia

This book delves into a developing area of Japan's labor migration studies, providing comprehensive insights to unveil the complexity of Japan's Technical Intern Trainee Program (TITP), not only from the perspective of the receiving country but particularly from that of the sending country. In doing so, the book focuses on Indonesia’s participation in the TITP.

With this, the book investigates the roles of various actors, including the Indonesian government, the supervising organization, the Indonesian community, alumni, and the trainees themselves. It examines, through three different (but interlocking) stages, (1) the pre-departure stage, (2) on-the-program stage, and (3) post-program stage.

To achieve this, the book draws upon extensive fieldwork, including in-depth interviews where the main part of the book is the result of ethnographic fieldwork, netnography, interviews, and participant observation of the relevant parties to gauge what issues/problems they are aware of. Fieldwork was conducted on/off sites and also with current and former alumni of the technical trainee program in Indonesia as well as interviews with the stakeholders, such as policymakers from Japan and, particularly in Indonesia, and the supervising organization (kumiai/kanridantai).
