Unlike traditional marketing, which focuses on profit generation, social marketing aims to foster positive changes in areas such as public health, environmental conservation, and safety. This paper explores the concept of social marketing, emphasizing its key benchmarks, including audience segmentation, behavioral objectives, exchange theory, the marketing mix, and competition analysis. The "Truth" anti-smoking campaign serves as a case study to illustrate the effectiveness of social marketing in reducing smoking rates among youth. The campaign’s success demonstrates the potential of well-researched social marketing interventions in shaping public behavior and promoting sustainable social development. Additionally, the paper examines the strengths and weaknesses of social marketing, addressing its long-term impact, ethical considerations, and challenges in implementation. The Role of Social Marketing in Behavior Change. A Case Study of the "Truth" Anti-Smoking Campaign

Seminar paper from the year 2023 in the subject Business economics - Business Ethics, Corporate Ethics, grade: 1,7, Heilbronn University, language: English, abstract: The goal of this paper is to find out if and why greenwashing is a curse for society, what the difference to sustainability is, how companies like Nike are involved and how they are dealing with it. 

In the first chapter this seminar paper is dedicated to the basics and will answer the following questions: What does greenwashing and what does sustainability mean? What are the different forms and characteristics of greenwashing? Is greenwashing and sustainability the same thing and if not, what are the differences? 

So here follows the classification and explanation of the term’s sustainability and greenwashing as well as their distinction from each other. 
The second chapter deals exclusively with the Nike brand. Here the corporate philosophy is explained, and the sustainability strategy is shown. This is underpinned by practical examples. 
The third chapter deals with the consequences and effects of greenwashing. It explains what the sins of greenwashing are and whether and how it affects today's society. Again a few examples are listed to provide practical relevance and to make it clear that it affects the entire society. 
How to reduce and recognize greenwashing are the subjects of chapter four. Additional solutions are sought here to avoid greenwashing. 
After that there will come a summary and a conclusion of the whole seminar paper.

Peter Ulrich, Wirtschaftswissenschaftler (1948), definiert den Begriff der Integrativen Wirtschaftsethik als "philosophische Vernunftethik des Wirtschaftens", die auf den Ansätzen von Aristoteles (384 v. Chr.) und Immanuel Kant (1724) basiert. Ulrich stellt fest, dass die international vorgefundenen Ansätze der Wirtschaftsethik oft nicht allen Ansprüchen genügen, da sie entscheidende Fragen eher verdecken als klären. (Ulrich, 2008b)

Karl Homann (1943), Philosoph (Wirtschaftsethik), betrachtet Ethik als potenzielles Mittel zur Gewinnmaximierung. Er hinterfragt Kants Annahme, dass alle Menschen ethisch handeln sollen und wollen, und stellt fest, dass das Eigeninteresse oft höher gewichtet wird als das Kollektiv: "Glaubwürdig ist eine solche kollektive Selbstbindung aber nur dann, wenn die Befolgung der ins Auge gefassten moralischen Regeln im Eigeninteresse aller Adressaten liegt." (Homann &amp; Blome-Drees, 1992)

Gerade die Exportbereitschaft deutscher Unternehmen wird dadurch stetig vorangetrieben. Ethische Werte oder Normen geraten aufgrund der Priorisierung der Gewinnmaximierung oftmals in den Hintergrund. Das Verhalten ist häufig rational und opportunistisch geprägt. Doch warum ist das so? Während die Gewinnmaximierung von Unternehmen in unserem Bildungssystem ausreichend behandelt wird, fehlt es oftmals an Fragestellungen zur modernen, praxisnahen Wirtschaftsethik. Daher stellt sich die Frage, wie zwei Faktoren, Wirtschaft und Moral, die in der Gesellschaft ihren Ausgangspunkt haben, dennoch so unterschiedlich sein können.
