Multinationale Unternehmen führen ihre Aktivitäten gleichzeitig in mehreren Ländern durch, zwischen denen es Unterschiede im Steuersystem gibt. Aufgrund dieser Tatsache laufen sie möglicherweise sogar Gefahr, einer Doppelbesteuerung ausgesetzt zu sein. In der Regel werden jedoch die gesetzlichen Lücken ausgenutzt, was zu einer doppelten Nichtbesteuerung führt. Um dies zu vermeiden, was negative Auswirkungen auf das Wirtschaftswachstum und den Wohlstand im Allgemeinen haben kann, haben viele Staaten untereinander Vereinbarungen zur Vermeidung der Doppelbesteuerung getroffen. Für die Besteuerung von Unternehmen auf internationaler Ebene können die Staaten zwei Prinzipien anwenden. Zum einen können sie das Wohnsitzlandprinzip anwenden, bei dem das Unternehmen in dem Land, in dem der Ort der Geschäftsleitung liegt, unbeschränkt steuerpflichtig ist. Zum anderen gibt es das Quellenlandprinzip, wodurch ein Unternehmen beschränkt steuerpflichtig in dem Land ist, in dem die Gewinne generiert werden.

Successful Digital Transformation in Finance. Customer-Centricity and Future Business Models Beyond Smart Technologies

This cross-disciplinary and holistic approach is based on an understanding of the IPO market as the intersection of these three main forces.This paper seeks to broaden the current debate and extend the traditional issuer-underwriter-investor model beyond the immediate ecosystem of IPO markets. The main objective of this paper is to provide a comprehensive assessment of the key, systemic and underlying trends in these three underlying disciplines and to identify potential areas for regulatory action.This paper finds academic evidence in the area of public equity offerings that regulatory initiatives can be effective and tilt the balance between private and public equity finance towards more regulated and transparent markets. It is also essential to acknowledge that this rebalancing was supported by financial innovation and it remains doubtful whether the JOBS Act can be as effective in the absence of similar innovation at the core of the IPO product, which remains locked between excessive underwriting fees and unresolved conflicts of interest in the analyst community, a key support function. These areas require further and immediate regulatory action to restore the competitiveness of the IPO product and to preserve the integrity of the IPO market as a whole.

Does the U.S. IPO market require further regulatory support?

Seminar paper from the year 2022 in the subject Economics - Finance, grade: 1,3, University of Applied Sciences - Hachenburg Castle, course: Finanzsaufsicht, language: English, abstract: The current rise in interest rates leads to significant losses in the value of banks’ own portfolios, especially for small and medium-sized banks. This paper considers how the application of the moderate lower of market principle may, in some circumstances, serve to reduce the negative impact of such an increase in interest rates. Accordingly, the valuation rules of the German Commercial Code in conjunction with the IDW statement on loss-free valuation in the banking book offer considerable scope of discretion for German institutions. 

The paper first outlines the principles for the classification and valuation of securities in commercial accounting. In this context, the valuation rule of the mitigated lower of market principle is explained and its influence on the formation of a provision for contingent losses in the scenario of a temporary impairment is shown. Furthermore, the IDW's statement on the loss-free valuation of the banking book is presented, according to which the prerequisites and requirements for reclassifications are explained. The aim of the paper is to highlight and categorically present the resulting consequences for banks. These include tax, regulatory and accounting advantages for banks by making full use of the legal framework. 

Impact of Interest Rate Increases on Bank Portfolios. Exploring the Mitigated Lower of Market Principle and Loss-Free Valuation in German Commercial Accounting

Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation from the year 2021 in the subject Economics - Finance, grade: Distinction (4.81), Wilberforce Island (Post Graduate School), course: Banking and Finance, language: English, abstract: The study examines the determinants of access to and usage of financial services in sub-Saharan Africa. The study employed panel data spanning 2006 to 2018 from 12 sub-Sahara African countries. The ex-post facto research design and econometric techniques were employed to explain the determinants of financial inclusion. The descriptive statistics was employed to describe the nature of the data. The LLC and IPS tests of stationarity indicated that all the variables were stationary at first difference. The Pearson pairwise correlation test revealed that the strength of association among the regressors were weak. The panel data was estimated using Pooled OLS, Fixed Effects, and Random Effects panel estimation techniques. The findings show that aside GDP per capita and political stability that had insignificant effect on access; money supply and regulatory quality had a significant effect on access to financial services. Furthermore, the findings suggest that aside from regulatory quality and deposit rate, GDP per capita and automated teller machine exerts a significant effect on financial usage. The study further reveals that money supply and lending rate significantly stimulates usage of loan accounts, while regulatory quality was insignificant. The study concludes that a combination of macroeconomic, institutional, and bank-level factors determine the level of financial inclusion in sub-Saharan Africa. The study recommends that regulators should encourage a conducive environment that spurs competition and innovation in the private sector. This may encourage financial access and usage due to economic growth and rising GDP per capita levels. Regulators should adopt policies like Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA) in order to enhance the regulatory quality and boost public confidence. Regulators and banks should encourage the expansion of the number of functional point of service outlets in the region. Finally, government agencies should formulate policies that would encourage socio-political stability for the financial service industry to strive in the region.

Assessing Credit Default Risk Using Logistic Regression. A Transparent Approach to Scoring with the UCI Dataset and SPSS

Facharbeit (Schule) aus dem Jahr 2024 im Fachbereich VWL - Finanzwissenschaft, Note: 1,3, , Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Diese Facharbeit wird sich mit der zentralen Frage auseinandersetzen, welche Rolle die Schuldenbremse für eine nachhaltige Haushaltsfinanzierung spielt. Es gilt zu untersuchen, ob und inwieweit die rigiden Grenzen der Schuldenbremse notwendige Investitionen in die Zukunft des Landes, insbesondere in Bereiche wie Klimaschutz und Infrastruktur, behindern oder ob sie ein unverzichtbares Instrument zur Sicherung der finanziellen Stabilität Deutschlands darstellen. 
Am 15. November 2023 fiel eine weitreichende Entscheidung des Bundesverfassungsgerichts, die nicht nur juristische, sondern auch tiefgreifende politische und gesellschaftliche Folgen nach sich zieht. Im Zentrum steht der zweite Nachtragshaushalt 2021, welcher laut dem höchsten deutschen Gericht nicht mit den Artikeln 109 Abs. 3, 110 Abs. 2 und 115 Abs. 2 des Grundgesetzes (GG) vereinbar ist und somit für nichtig erklärt wurde. Diese Entscheidung hinterließ bei der Bundesregierung eine finanzielle Lücke von gewaltigen 60 Milliarden Euro. Gelder, die für essenzielle Klimaschutzprojekte wie die Sanierung von Gebäuden oder die Förderung der Elektromobilität eingeplant waren, stehen nun nicht mehr zur Verfügung. Die ursprüngliche Intention hinter der Allokation dieser enormen Summe war, die schwerwiegenden Konsequenzen der Corona-Krise effektiver zu managen. Um dies zu ermöglichen, wurde eine Ausnahme von der sogenannten Schuldenbremse gemacht, eine Maßnahme, die in außergewöhnlichen Notlagen verfassungsrechtlich zulässig ist. Die kritische Prüfung durch das Bundesverfassungsgericht am 15. November 2023 hat jedoch ergeben, dass eine derartige Verschiebung von Schulden unzulässig ist, was die Bundesregierung vor neue Herausforderungen stellt.
In Reaktion auf diese juristische Entscheidung hat die Bundesregierung für das Jahr 2023 einen weiteren Nachtragshaushalt aufgelegt, der die Aussetzung der Schuldenbremse für dieses Jahr vorsieht, gestützt auf die Ausnahmeregelung für außergewöhnliche Notlagen. Doch die Opposition hinterfragt kritisch, ob die Voraussetzungen für eine derartige Ausnahme – eine Naturkatastrophe oder eine außergewöhnliche Notsituation, die außerhalb der staatlichen Kontrolle liegt – tatsächlich gegeben sind. Sie argumentiert, dass die derzeitige finanzielle Notlage erst durch das ungesetzlich bewertete Handeln der Bundesregierung entstanden sei.

Optimizing Public Financial Management. A Comprehensive Study of IBEX Based Financial Matrix in Ethiopia

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2022 in the subject Economics - Finance, grade: 1,7, University of Frankfurt (Main) (Wirtschaftswissenschaften), language: English, abstract: Two regressions were used to analyse the composition of the interest rate on the primary market and the discount rate on the unregulated secondary market of the Estonian peer-to-peer lending platform Bondora. Furthermore, it was investigated how different dummy variables affect the pricing behaviour on the primary market, and if Bondora fulfills the classic peer-to-peer promises.What drives pricing behavior in peer-to-peer loan primary and secondary markets? To answer this question, datasets from the P2P platform Bondora are examined. For the pricing behavior on the primary market, the effects of different variables on the interest rate set by the platform on Bondora are tested. The pricing behavior on the secondary market, on the other hand, is investigated regarding the discount rate. It can be used to examine which factors of a loan lead to its shares being sold at a premium or discount to the fundamental value. The regressions revealed that the expected loss has the strongest influence on the interest rate in the primary market. The effect of the expected loss on the interest rate was positive. However, gender also plays an important role in determining the price of a loan, it was found that women pay a significantly smaller interest rate than men.  In general, a large part of the variance of the interest rate can be determined with the presented models. In contrast, pricing behavior in the secondary market is not as easy to predict, probably due to irrationality and cognitive limitations. Although all variables in the secondary market regression were significant, the adjusted R2 was very small at 1%. The days since the borrower defaulted had the largest impact on the price in terms of amount. Curiously, more days in default even meant that the loan share was more likely to be sold at a premium.

What Drives Pricing Behavior in Peer-to-Peer Loan Primary and Secondary Markets?

Verschiedene Faktoren beeinflussen Kapitalstrukturentscheidungen. Zu diesen Faktoren zählen beispielsweise Branche, Größe, Zugangsmöglichkeiten zum Kapitalmarkt, Kapitalintensität, regulatorische Aspekte, Ertragspotential oder Geschäftsstrategie eines Unternehmens. Mit dieser Arbeit soll ein Einstieg und erster Überblick zum breiten Themengebiet der Kapitalstruktur und dessen Bedeutung gegeben werden.Die Arbeit ist hierzu wie folgt gegliedert: Im zweiten Kapitel werden finanztheoretische Grundlagen vorgestellt. Dabei wird der Begriff der Kapitalstruktur definiert und auf den Aufbau der Bilanz, unterschiedliche Finanzierungsarten sowie den Leverage-Effekt eingegangen. Anschließend werden verschiedene Theorien vorgestellt, die sich mit der Kapitalstruktur von Unternehmen beschäftigen. Die Theorien beleuchten die Bedeutung beziehungsweise Auswirkungen verschiedener Kapitalstrukturen. Auf Grundlage der Kapitalstrukturtheorien sowie Studien zum Vorgehen in der Unternehmenspraxis werden im dritten Kapitel Vorteile aufgezeigt, die sich für Unternehmen durch eine aktive Steuerung der Kapitalstruktur ergeben. Das letzte Kapitel fasst die Ergebnisse der Arbeit zusammen und gibt einen Ausblick auf weiterführende Fragestellungen.

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2023 in the subject Economics - Finance, grade: Distinction, National University of Science &amp; Technology Zimbabwe (Finance), language: English, abstract: This study examines the impact of inflation and monetary policy shocks on stock market performance in Zimbabwe from 2000 to 2022. Using data obtained from the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE) returns, inflation rates obtained from the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZIMSTAT), and interest rates obtained from the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, the study analyzes the relationship between these variables' regression where ZSE returns are the dependent variable while inflation and interest rates are the independent variables. The research findings suggest that inflation has a negative impact, while monetary policy shocks have a positive impact on stock market performance in Zimbabwe. The study finds that inflation has a significant and persistent negative effect on stock market returns, with a one standard deviation shock in inflation leading to a significant decline in stock market returns. Moreover, the study identifies that monetary policy shocks, such as changes in interest rates, have a significant impact on stock market returns, but the effect is less pronounced compared to inflation in Zimbabwe. Furthermore, the study examines the transmission channels through which monetary policy shocks affect the stock market in Zimbabwe. The results suggest that changes in interest rates affect the stock market mainly through their impact on inflation expectations and exchange rates. This highlights the importance of considering both monetary and macroeconomic factors when analyzing the impact of monetary policy on the stock market in Zimbabwe. The study concludes that high inflation rates and frequent monetary policy interventions have a detrimental effect on stock market performance in Zimbabwe. The findings of this research are relevant to investors, policymakers, and analysts who are interested in understanding the relationship between inflation, monetary policy, and stock market performance in Zimbabwe. The study also analyzed the impact of GDP and exchange rate as control variables on stock market performance. The results suggested that changes in exchange rates have a negative impact on stock market returns GDP have a negative impact. The joint impact of inflation and monetary policy shocks was also found to be significant, indicating that both variables affect stock returns.
