Seminar paper from the year 2023 in the subject Economics - International Economic Relations, grade: 1,3, University of Applied Management, course: Global Economics, language: English, abstract: What positive impact does TTIP have on policy, defense, and security? Observing the humanitarian crisis in Venezuela, the political instabilities in African nations such as Syria, Iraq, and Libya, the war in Yemen, and the terrorism in Afghanistan caused by the Taliban shows that the world is currently facing security challenges. Above all, the Ukraine war, which began with Russia's invasion on February 24, the crisis in North Korea, and the confrontation over the Taiwan issue are of particular concern. In addition, there are other political uncertainties. According to the Council on Foreign Relations, 70.8 million people are displaced due to the war. This migration crisis is an issue that the EU and the US, especially, have to deal with. Furthermore, the global Covid-19 pandemic has been on the agenda since 2020. Accordingly, both military and health risks exist. This chapter focuses on the transatlantic trade and investment partnership "TTIP" and its impact on security. The TTIP negotiations between the EU and the USA reached a standstill at the end of 2016. Despite the possibility that the treaty would enable the two powerful economic nations to develop further and strengthen their ties. Furthermore, the agreement aimed to create up to 13 million new jobs. Nevertheless, the TTIP negotiations are gaining traction due to global circumstances. As already explained, many skeptics, such as charities, environmentalists, and NGOs, for instance, strongly criticize the agreement. There have also been some large-scale demonstrations in European countries. Nevertheless, TTIP also has benefits, especially concerning the economy.

Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership. TTIP's role in terms of politics, security, and defense

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2018 in the subject Economics - International Economic Relations, grade: 2,0, Ruhr-University of Bochum (Wirschaftwissenschaft), language: English, abstract: The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to answer the question whether Brexit has negatively or positively affected the financial markets and why. The first two chapters will present the foundations for this thesis, namely more selective information about Brexit, how and why the vote was made, and also about the financial markets and their importance. Since the UK’s official exit from the EU will take place on March 29th, 2019, it is still unclear what the consequences of Brexit will be. Therefore, the main part will focus on the period before and after the referendum, tracking when Brexit's influence began and how it had evolved over the years. In addition, a brief forecast will be given as to how the UK’s withdrawal might eventually affect financial markets. The three financial markets that will be a subject in this thesis are: the foreign exchange market, the stock market and the government bond market. This bachelor’s thesis will be mainly focusing on the markets inside the UK, as the effects there are expected to be the most significant. Due to its ambiguity and topicality, Brexit is the subject of many studies and analysis. This work will be based mainly on two studies: "Kiel Institute for the World Economy"'s study by Raddant, and "Deutsches Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung"'s study by Caporale et al. Through descriptive literature research and analysis of scientific literature, newspaper articles and government reports, will be examined how and why Brexit has influenced the markets in one way or another. The argumentation will be supported by daily observations of the GBP/USD, GBP/EUR, FTSE 100, UK EPU and 10-Y UK Gilts in the period between January 2016 and June 2018, as well as by self-created graphics based on these observations.

There is therefore an urgent need to explore what steps Zimbabwe can take to reverse these unfavourable trade statistics. Therefore, through internet research carried out by various researchers exploring an almost similar scenario, plausible statistical results were obtained that indicate the direction Zimbabwe can take as a procedure to revive international trade. Although there is a wealth of literature on Zimbabwe's business culture, the renewal of international business status remains a relatively obscure view in academic research.

Skewered Balance of Payment. What can Zimbabwe do to Reverse the Unfavourable International Trade Statistics?

Seminar paper from the year 2021 in the subject Economics - International Economic Relations, grade: 3.0, University of California, Irvine, course: Asian Studies, language: English, abstract: What is the impact of Chinese foreign direct investment on the growth and economic performance of Asian countries?In recent decades, China has progressively become one of the nations with the highest foreign direct investment (FDI) levels. The country has attracted more than $1.5 trillion in FDI during the last three decades. Notably, the large volumes of FDI inflows have promoted Chinese economic growth in terms of capital creation, export expansion, increased competition, employment establishment, and technology transfer. There exists a broad range of literature discussing the impact of FDI on economic development. Amongst those studies, it is universally agreed upon that FDI positively influences the economic growth of a country and a region. Still, some researchers have found that FDI leads to negative effects on the economic growth of a host nation. Only a few studies have focused on specific FDI from one nation or the influence on diverse developing countries. As such, my study aims to fill gaps within this research.The proposed study examines the impact of Chinese-specific FDI on the growth and economic performance in six Asian states – Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Indonesia. The research will use a cross-country log-linear regression, analyzing the data from 2010 to 2019. To my understanding, no study has specifically examined the effect of Chinese FDI on growth and economic performance using a similar time range. The data from the selected six Asian countries will help identify the variations of FDI on the economic development of the entire region. I will contain all relevant data for all nations within the panel data set. By focusing on these countries and the particular time range, I will help improve the existing literature.

The Impact of Chinese Foreign Direct Investment on Growth and Economic Performance of Asian Countries

Seminar paper from the year 2024 in the subject Economics - International Economic Relations, grade: A (91%), , language: English, abstract: Analyzing nocturnal economies in the Global South, this paper has noted that the concept plays a crucial role in urbanization and socio-economic development. Some areas that have benefited from increased demands due to urban development and changing lifestyles include hospitality, entertainment, and transport industries, especially at night. In Latin America, Africa, Asia, and Oceania, key cities showcase the economic benefits of night activities through employment and tourism. However, nocturnal economies are not without challenges, such as security issues, lack of infrastructure, poor and inconsistent policies, and sociocultural factors. Ideally, efficiency in policy reforms, infrastructure, security, and technology are critical for more sustainable growth. Licensing must be made simpler, night markets must be encouraged, and collaboration between the government and private entities must be encouraged. Mitigating these challenges and building on these opportunities can significantly improve the socio-economic development in the Global South and create sustainable and equitable nocturnal economies.

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2023 im Fachbereich VWL - Internationale Wirtschaftsbeziehungen, Note: 1,3, Macromedia Fachhochschule der Medien Hamburg, Veranstaltung: Interkulturelle Kommunikation, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Das Thema meiner Seminararbeit "Der Vergleich der Arbeits- und Unternehmenskultur in Deutschland und China" ist eine Thematik, welches sich durch seine Aktualität und Relevanz auszeichnet. Deutschland und China sind zwei starke Handelspartner, die trotz ihrer Konflikte und Differenzen auf eine langjährige Handelspartnerschaft zurückblicken können und diese fortlaufend intensivieren. Gemeinsam erwirtschafteten sie in den letzten Jahrzehnten immense Gewinne. Ein ausgeprägtes Wissen über die im Land vorherrschende Arbeitskultur ist gerade dann von wichtiger Bedeutung, wenn beispielsweise deutsche Geschäftsleute planen nach China zu immigrieren und dort ohne Anpassungsschwierigkeiten in der Berufswelt Fuß fassen wollen. Genauso natürlich auch umgekehrt, wenn es chinesische Geschäftsleute nach Deutschland zieht, um dort zu bleiben.Durch meine Arbeit soll evaluiert werden, inwieweit China und Deutschland trotz ihrer Unterschiede in den Arbeits- und Unternehmenskulturen gewinnbringend miteinander agieren können. Zudem soll versucht werden, eine Aussage darüber zu treffen, wie zukunftsorientiert die beiden Arbeitskulturen sind. Die Arbeit legt den Schwerpunkt auf den Vergleich der beiden Arbeits- und Führungskulturen, der Qualifizierungsprogramme junger Menschen in chinesischen und deutschen Unternehmen sowie der beiden Arbeitsmärkte.

Fachhochschule Köln, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die vorliegende Hausarbeit untersucht die verschiedenen Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten der Internationalisierung deutscher Unternehmen anhand des Fallbeispiels adidas. Zunächst wird die theoretische Fundierung dargelegt, was das Lesen und das Verstehen der Ausarbeitung erleichtern soll. Zudem werden die Motive eines Unternehmens im Zuge der Internationalisierung dargestellt. Der Internationalisierungsprozess geschieht nicht von heute auf morgen, denn dahinter steckt ein hoher Aufwand und viele im Vorfeld festgelegte Strategien, welche im dritten Kapitel analysiert werden. Im vierten Kapitel wird die adidas AG einer Analyse unterzogen, dazu wird das Unternehmen vorgestellt, um einen Einblick in die Geschäftsaktivitäten zu ermöglichen. Im zweiten Schritt der Analyse werden die internationalen strategischen Ausrichtungen dargestellt, um im letzten Kapitel ein Fazit mit einem Ausblick in die Zukunft ziehen zu können.

Internationalisierung deutscher Unternehmen durch strategische Konzepte am Beispiel der Adidas AG

Master's Thesis from the year 2022 in the subject Economics - International Economic Relations, grade: 1,3, Berlin School of Economics and Law (Hochschule für Wirtschaft und Recht Berlin), course: Internationale Economics, language: English, abstract: In this thesis, I ground my analysis in the Global production Network (GPN) approach, which in the literature also is associated with possibilities of “strategic coupling” and asks for an analysis of “value capture trajectories”. But can the promise of such as “value capture trajectory” be observed in the case of the Nordmann fir GPN for the Racha region, from which the seeds of Christmas trees originate? 

The master thesis seeks to examine prospects for regional development in the Racha region in Georgia. The central research question of the master thesis is thus posed as: “To what extent does the Nordmann fir global production network contribute to development perspectives in the Racha region?” To answer this research question, I mainly draw on the Global Production Network literature (coupled with some perspectives from evolutionary economies) and analyze value creation, enhancement, and capture trajectories. 

Christmas is one of the largest religious celebrations of the Christian world. At the same time, consumer society as well as the marketing strategy of industries and retailers increasingly shift the spiritual character of Christmas towards materialist covetousness, leading to higher turnovers for supermarkets, large retailer, and industry. The annual demand for Christmas trees in Germany and Denmark is premised upon the seeds of Nordmann firs, which come exclusively from the Racha region in the Great Caucasus ridge of Georgia. It thus forms what is variously called a commodity chain, value chain or production network (as a phenomenon) and that can be accounted for with different concepts including Global Commodity Chains, Global Value Chains and Global Production Networks.

Who profits from commoditizing Christmas: Development prospects for Georgia in the Nordmann fir global production network

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2014 im Fachbereich VWL - Internationale Wirtschaftsbeziehungen, Note: 1,3, Bergische Universität Wuppertal (Lehrstuhl für Makroökonomische Theorie und Politik), Veranstaltung: Ausgewählte Probleme der europäischen Integration, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Ziel dieser Arbeit soll es sein, in einem ersten Schritt die Definitionen und Begriffe zu klären. Dazu wird ein Blick auf Somalia geworfen, da die Situation und historische Entwicklung in Somalia der Grund für die gegenwärtige Problematik ist. Zudem sollen kurz die Theorien "Failing States" und "Neue Kriege" erklärt werden, sowie in Grundzügen die gemeinsame Außen- und Sicherheitspolitik der Europäischen Union. Das dritte Kapitel der Arbeit soll sich dann mit der derzeit laufenden "Operation Atalanta" der Europäischen Union beschäftigen. Da es hierzu, aufgrund der noch andauernden Mission, noch keine verwertbare Literatur gibt, wird auf Beschlüsse, Berichte und Zeitungsartikel zurückgegriffen. Das vierte Kapitel wird sich dann mit einem der möglichen Probleme der Mission beschäftigen. Dazu wird als Beispiel die "Operation Irene" der US Streitkräfte aus dem Jahr 1993 beleuchtet, da diese auch für die "Atalanta Mission" von Bedeutung werden könnte. Das letzte Kapitel soll dann die Ergebnisse der Arbeit in einem kurzen abschließenden Fazit zusammenfassen und wenn möglich eine kritische Reflexion der Mission ermöglichen und dabei versuchen die Frage zu beantworten, in wie weit die Mission die Gemeinsame Außen- und Sicherheitspolitik der Europäischen Union voran bringt, oder gar Risiken für diese birgt.

Gemeinsame Außen- und Sicherheitspolitik der Europäischen Union anhand der Atalanta Mission

Masterarbeit aus dem Jahr 2019 im Fachbereich VWL - Internationale Wirtschaftsbeziehungen, Note: 2,3, FernUniversität Hagen (Fakultät für Wirtschaftswissenschaft), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: In dieser Arbeit soll auf Basis aktuellerer Wirtschaftsdaten eine Prognose über mögliche Auswirkungen eines Brexits auf das Bruttoinlandsprodukt (BIP) und Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) getroffen werden. Da sich die Zeichen für einen harten Brexit in den letzten Monaten verdichtet haben, liegt der Fokus im Folgenden auf dieser Option. Dazu wird ein regressionsanalytischer Ansatz gewählt, um mögliche Einflussfaktoren dieser beiden Größen zu berücksichtigen. Kombiniert wird dieser mit einem ARIMA-Modell, welches ein Werkzeug der Zeitreihenanalyse ist. Zunächst werden daher theoretische Grundlagen zu Regression, Zeitreihen und ARIMA vorgestellt. Im Nachgang wird ein ARIMAX-Modell erstellt und auf Geeignetheit untersucht, um im Anschluss Aussagen über die britische BIP- und FDI-Entwicklung nach dem Brexit zu treffen.
