This is not only a matter of transplanted “Western jacket” of Germanic Penal Code, but also departmental internal instructions, integrity standards and traditional legal consciousness of unwritten codes of conduct. The original findings of this book reveal that

This edited collection illuminates what the concept of a specifically epistemic type of injustice has to offer socio-legal analysts. The epistemic aspects of injustice comprise more than knowledges, meaning and understanding, to include the supporting material and discursive (infra)structures for their production and dissemination arising in space/place/time. This book focuses on legal and regulatory arrangements, and the forms of knowledge and meaning they carry and with which they interact, in order to bring to light their spatial and place-relatedness or boundedness, which includes their temporal dimensions at various scales.
These highly innovative studies of epistemic injustice encompass the responsibilisation of patients in the North of England and Northern Ireland, housing, the systemic operations of law, the construction of digital spaces by algorithms, hospital discharges, case law affecting Indigenous communities in Kenya, the experience of mining disaster in Brazil, and the perspectives of rare diseases patients in Austria during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The book contributes towards law and geography, in particular through the emphasis on temporality as part of space and place. By highlighting the importance of author positionality and reflexivity, and pausing so as to bolster the development of humility and sensitivity for more fully informed studies on epistemic injustice and its ameliorations, the book also advances methodology for future studies.

It outlines the state of LGBTQ+ rights across Africa and discusses the notion of queering African law. It explores regional approaches towards the protection of LGBTQ+ rights within Africa and the important role of activism in challenging anti LGBTQ+ laws notably through litigation, their successes, challenges and limitations. It discusses the tensions between cultural, historical and other factors that on one hand challenge progress but which on the other hand may also be avenues for advancing rights. A Very Short Introduction

This book is a socio-legal interdisciplinary study on gender and diversity in multicultural societies of Europe. It uses secondary data to discuss the broad experiences of migrant single mothers/women in Europe. Second, it includes narratives of experiences across the life course of single Danish-Pakistani women, starting from their pre-migration background to their elderly lives. The author uses an analytical framework used of relational collectivism and individualism, the former referring to the understanding of oneself as connected and interdependent to the family, and the latter referring to values of independence, personal interest and achievements. She uses the term “mélange familism” to explain a new family type that combines both relational-collectivist and individualist elements. A major part of this work is its deliberation of mélange familism and processes of social and legal practices in the everyday lives of single mothers. Crucially, the book demonstrates that social and legal traditions are not static, but are a product of improvisation. It makes a significant contribution by providing an alternate picture of single women/mothers as against the stereotypical image of ‘passive, subordinate Muslim women’. It also contributes to gender and family studies by showing the increasing establishment of single-mother-headed households as a source of new possibilities; a new type or form of family construction, and not just the tragic residue of a broken two-parent family.
