Housing Rent Dynamics in Voi Town and its Environs

Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2020 in the subject Economics - Case Scenarios, grade: 1.0, School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London (Economics), course: Research Methods for International Development, language: English, abstract: This paper examines the following research questions: Who wins, who loses, how and why from a Just Transition (JT) in Rajasthan towards a higher share of renewable energies, in particular solar energy? How can the Republic of India reconcile its self-set and international goals of overcoming absolute and energy poverty as well as increasing energy security with current practices of training for and employment in the (renewable) energy sector? Which role do non-state actors play in India’s renewable energy sector to overcome these development challenges? In times of an accelerating climate change (CC), the Republic of India – like most other states of the Global South – is confronted with ever more developmental challenges. They are, however, particularly intertwined in the Indian context. Not only is the South Asian giant one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable countries, understandable as “the degree to which a system is susceptible to, or unable to cope with, adverse effects of [CC], including climate variability and extremes”, in addition, 22% of its population still lives beneath the international absolute poverty line of USD 1.90 per day. Confounding this, 168 million people, or 24% of the population, were classified as living in energy poverty, particularly in rural areas, in 2017.Crucially, these numbers neither imply that the remaining 76% of India’s population enjoy a high degree of energy security nor that these development aspects are highly distinct from each other. The opposite is more likely to be the case, considering the threat of CC to reinforce and deepen already existing inequalities. Furthermore, and exacerbating the prevalence of energy poverty when looking to the future, the world’s second-largest nation is still severely dependent on coal and other fossil fuels. As much as 63% of its electricity are generated by combusting highly climate-damaging fossil sources of energy such as coalof which it possesses the fourth-largest reserves worldwide.

Power for (and to) the People? The Political Economy of a Just Transition in Rajasthan, India

Master's Thesis from the year 2021 in the subject Economics - Case Scenarios, grade: 2, University of Bayreuth (Economics), language: English, abstract: Climate change is one of the world's major challenges to overcome. After the 2015 Paris Agreement, 196 countries around the globe agreed to undertake policy measures for keeping the average rise of global temperature below 2° Celsius by 2050. The main goal of this global governance framework is to help the parties mobilize financial resources and mitigate the effects of climate change. Under the agreement, every country must regularly report its contributions to emission reductions.

The governmental budgets worldwide will not be sufficient to finance the necessary climate change mitigation and adaptation infrastructure projects. On the one hand, there exists a large investment gap in developing countries of around 530 billion United States dollar (USD) that need to be invested by 2030 solely in the energy sector to meet the countries’ sustainable infrastructure needs. Since the urbanization rate is rapidly increasing, especially cities in emerging economies urgently need large amounts of capital. On the other hand, large institutional investors are increasingly introducing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria in their investment decisions and incorporating ‘green’ mandates in their statutes. One potential instrument to meet policymaker’s and investor’s needs are green bonds (GBs).

Therefore, this research aims to investigate the market barriers for municipal green bonds (MGBs) in Colombia. Since the topic has a niche character, the research method is based on a literature review and three experts’ interviews to add an insightful perspective of market practitioners. The structural barriers identified as obstacles to market development were macroeconomic variables that limit the access to capital markets, political variables such as corruption, conflicts, rivalries between parties and cortoplacismo as well as market skepticism to-wards new financial instruments and ‘green’ topics. Additionally, some specific market barriers of the green bonds market are significantly high transaction costs, lack of technical knowledge, dependence on external market actors, liquidity, and greenwashing risk. The last chapter of this master thesis presents policy recommendations for three key market actors: Colombian municipalities, the central government, and multilateral development banks.

Should Colombian Cities Issue Green Bonds?

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2018 im Fachbereich VWL - Fallstudien, Länderstudien, Note: 1,7, Christian-Albrechts-Universität Kiel (Institut für Volkswirtschaftslehre), Veranstaltung: Seminar „Wachstum und Entwicklung“, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Der sogenannte Ressourcenfluch besagt, dass sich das Wachstum eines Landes durch die Förderung von wertvollen Ressourcen nachteilig entwickeln kann. Die vorliegende Hausarbeit wird untersuchen, ob sich die 2010 begonnene Erdölförderung als Ressourcenfluch oder -segen für die Republik Ghana entwickelt hat. Zur Beantwortung der Leitfrage wird ein Vergleich mit dem Nachbarland Togo vorgenommen.Zuerst wird hierfür die Theorie des Ressourcenfluchs dargelegt und welche Verbindung zwischen den natürlichen Rohstoffen, wie Erdöl, und dem gesamtstaatlichen Wirtschaftswachstum besteht. Daran anschließend werden die bisherigen Forschungsergebnisse dargelegt und analysiert. Im Hauptteil sollen anhand von wirtschaftlichen, bildungstechnischen und sozialen Indikatoren das erdölfördernde Ghana und das nicht-erdölfördernde Togo zwischen den Jahren 1990 und 2017 miteinander verglichen und die jeweilige Entwicklung kritisch interpretiert werden. Für die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung finden das Bruttoinlandsprodukt pro Kopf sowie die sektorale Strukturentwicklung der beiden Vergleichsländer Berücksichtigung. Aufgrund der schwierigen Datenlage kommt als Indikator für die Bildung der "Education Index" der Vereinten Nationen zum Tragen. Als soziale Ausprägung wird der "Human Development Index" betrachtet, durch welchen die humanen Lebensbedingungen eines Landes abgebildet werden. Abschließend werden ein Fazit über die Entwicklung Ghanas und ein Ausblick auf weitere Forschungsansätze vorgenommen.

        &lt;p&gt;Welche Bedeutung hat das Zuhause? Wie ist es durch das Bürgerliche Gesetzbuch geschützt? Der Autor entwickelt – ausgehend von sozialtheoretischen Erkenntnissen – eine interdisziplinäre Kommentierung und Systematisierung wohnraumbezogener Vorschriften des Bürgerlichen Gesetzbuchs. Das so vertiefte Verständnis für den Regelungszweck dieser Vorschriften (insbesondere rund um Kauf und Miete sowie Eigentum und Besitz) hilft bei Definitionen, Auslegungen sowie Abwägungen. Dadurch kann zum Beispiel die gerichtliche Praxis besser Lebensrealitäten einbeziehen – wie auch Emotionen, die den Wohnraum zum Zuhause machen. Die Arbeit schafft somit eine theoretische Grundlage in der praktischen Arbeit mit wohnraumbezogenen Rechtsfragen.&lt;/p&gt;

Das Zuhause im Bürgerlichen Gesetzbuch

&lt;p&gt;Der schuldrechtliche Vertrag sichert Freiheit und Demokratie. Doch bei sozialen Nutzungsverträgen lässt er Zweck und Dauer außer Acht. Stattdessen herrschen dort weiter Vorstellungen einer Sklavengesellschaft von Unterordnung, Fremdbestimmung und Abhängigkeit, wo die Nutzung von Arbeitsplätzen, Wohnungen und Verbraucherkrediten rechtlich zu beurteilen ist. Dabei gab und gibt es eine Alternative, das Mietvertragsmodell der locatio conductio. Anstelle von exklusivem und punktuellem Erwerb von Eigentum im kaufrechtlichen Denken stellt es den dauerhaften Nutzen in den Mittelpunkt. Dies führt zu einem „anderen“ sozial gerechteren Vertrag, der den Verhältnissen heute besser gerecht wird.&lt;/p&gt;

The study examines the relationship between employee performance and salary, establishes the relationship between job security and employee performance in Oyam Town Council. A cross-sectional survey design method was used in which secondary data was collected using a computer from authorized sources.The study used a sample size of 52 respondents from a total population of 60 and thematic analysis techniques were done with the help of Stata and a statistical package for social scientists software, after which inferential statistics were made. According to Omollo, as an input, an organization must have a statement, a philosophy, a series of programs and goals which focuses on the skills and talents of its employees for it’s success. All of these must be managed with care and guidance so that the organization’s mission, duration for it’s stability of the work and continuity is successfully accomplished. Therefore, the Motivation effect is a need inside employee’s demands and help to achieve it without irregularities, and motivating the employees broadens their skills to meet the organizational demands.In addition, every branch manager needs to have the responsibility to work with the staff and obtain out their individual needs and put them to the organization’s needs. This can be done by motivating employees. Every individual in an organization is motivated by some different ways and therefore, employee motivation is a reflection of the level of energy, commitment, and creativity that a Company’s workers bring to their jobs. A manager needed to motivate employees and subordinates towards the accomplishment of the organization’s vision. Therefore, motivation is defined as giving employees incentives that cause them to act in desired ways.

Bachelorarbeit aus dem Jahr 2018 im Fachbereich VWL - Fallstudien, Länderstudien, Note: 1,0, , Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Mexiko galt bis Anfang der Neunzigerjahre als besonders erfolgreicher neoliberaler Musterschüler, da es dem Land bereits gelungen schien, den Anschluss an die Industrieländer zu gewinnen. Mit dem Ausbruch der sogenannten Peso-Krise 1994/95 wurde klar, dass es trotz einer Reihe positiver makroökonomischer Indikatoren andere krisenverursachende Faktoren geben musste. Aber welches waren diese Faktoren? Ist die Krise durch Umsetzungsfehler einer bestimmten Staatspolitik erklärbar? Gab es andere politische Faktoren, die destabilisierend auf die Wirtschaft gewirkt haben? Oder war es schlicht und ergreifend Pech?Um eine genaue Einschätzung über die Ursachen der Peso-Krise zu geben, ist es notwendig, sich nicht nur mit der Zahlungsunfähigkeit Mexikos 1982 und der damit verbundenen Schuldenkrise auseinanderzusetzen, sondern eine Analyse der mexikanischen Wirtschaft vor 1982 vorzunehmen. Eine entscheidende Rolle spielte hierbei die Hinwendung der mexikanischen Wirtschaftspolitik zu einer neoliberalen Ordnung. Diese ist gekennzeichnet durch eine systematische Begünstigung der Kapitalseite durch Maßnahmen der Deregulierung, Liberalisierung, Individualisierung, Flexibilisierung, Privatisierung etc., welche auch die Maßnahmen des Washington Consensus sind. Die vorliegende Arbeit betrachtet daher die mexikanische Wirtschaft vom Anfang der siebziger Jahre bis einschließlich der Krise von 1994/95. Es wird die Hypothese vertreten, dass die Peso-Krise ein mehr oder minder unvermeidliches Resultat des neoliberalen Reformprozesses war.

Die Währungskrise in Mexiko 1994/95. Marktversagen, Staatsversagen oder weder noch?

Fachhochschule Köln, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Folgende konkrete Fragestellungen sollen als roter Faden der Ausarbeitung dienen: Können Determinanten und Bedingungsfaktoren der Innovationsentwicklung identifiziert werden? In welchem Zusammenhang stehen die Kulturdimensionen, die Unterstützungslandschaft und das Wagniskapital mit der Innovationsentwicklung von Start-ups? Die vorliegende Bachelorarbeit wird als Literaturdiskussion aufgelegt. Dementsprechend sollen die Forschungsfragen durch Exzerption literaturwissenschaftlicher Erkenntnisse beantwortet werden. Kapitel 2 dient der Definition essenzieller Begrifflichkeiten. Zudem werden Hofstedes Kulturdimension und Daten zur Innovationsentwicklung sowie demografischer, kultureller und politischer Gegebenheiten der Länder dargestellt. Das Ziel des Kapitels besteht darin, in die Thematik einzuführen und eine Vergleichbarkeit des Status quo beider Länder hinsichtlich des Forschungsobjekts zu erzeugen. Kapitel 3 dient der Analyse und Gegenüberstellung der Länder nach den Kulturdimensionen nach Hofstede sowie dem Wagniskapital und der Unterstützungslandschaft. Die inhaltlichen Analyseergebnisse sollen in Kapitel 4 resümiert und in Form einer methodischen Reflexion hinterfragt werden. Das Ziel des Kapitels besteht in der abschließenden Zusammenfassung jeglicher Erkenntnisse sowie der Offenlegung weiteren Forschungspotenzials.  Die Digitalisierung und Technisierung der Wirtschaft hat neue Möglichkeiten des Marketings, des Produkt- oder Dienstleistungsdesigns sowie der Gestaltung des Handels im Allgemeinen eröffnet. Die Internationalisierung der Märkte führt zu der geografischen Diversifizierung der Wertschöpfungskette, womit Unternehmen aus verschiedenen Ländern nun zu direkten Konkurrenten lokaler Unternehmen werden. Durch die Internationalisierung und Digitalisierung der Wirtschaft verändern sich die Wettbewerbsbedingungen für Unternehmen ebenso weitreichend wie die von Wirtschaftsstandorten. Ein historisches Beispiel für den Niedergang eines Wirtschaftsstandortes ist das Ruhrgebiet. Hier boomte einst die Stahlindustrie und Kohleförderung, bis in den 1980er-Jahren die Zechen geschlossen wurden, da alternative Anbieter aus dem Ausland Kohle und Stahl deutlich günstiger fördern und veräußern konnten.

Innovationsentwicklung im Vergleich Deutschland und Israel

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2017 in the subject Economics - Case Scenarios, grade: 1,7, University of Constance, language: English, abstract: This paper first introduces different inventions with their historical background in the period from 1870 to 1940, comparing the necessity of the different topics in different periods from 1940 till now. Afterwards, this papers conducts the analyses, explaining the growth in Total Factor Productivity (TFP) and Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Last but not the least, the economic and social benefits of different inventions are explained widely. At its end, this paper shows that some inventions like autonomous cars or a futuristic transportation system can give the economy a boost or increase life expectancy. With the smart house, in which life is more convenient, the difference between the past and the future would become visible.Human existence changed dramatically after the Civil War in the United States. However, thanks to a number of ‘Great Inventions’ in particular, electricity and the internal combustion engine life began to improve exponentially. Housing became more comfortable when tied to systems of heat and sewage. Life changed dramatically after innovations that affected housing for instance, indoor plumbing, running water, and sewers. Other life-changing innovations like automobiles, electricity, the airplane, the telephone and many others also helped increase the standards of living in America, but such a phenomenon could have occurred only once.Inventions lead to incredible growth, but this cannot be continuous. When consumption is fully exhausted, only new inventions can lead to new growth trajectories. Once an invention has been made, it does not mean that it leads to automatic growth.Invention must be adjusted over a time, and this process leads to steady growth over a decade or a long period of time. During the period from 1870 to 1940, the change in growth rates was incredible. Till 1870, houses were isolated, but by 1940, they were connected to five important systems, viz., water, gas, telephone, electricity, and possibly the most important one—sewage. While analysing different types of inventions, it must be said that Gordon (2016) could be right with his predictions that growth is almost over.
