This book offers a fresh perspective on the history of Chinese Christianity, retelling it through the lens of Pentecost (Acts 2) to illuminate the rise of Pentecostal and charismatic Christianity in China from the 20th century onward. Through this innovative analysis, the book connects Pentecostalism’s global emergence with the unique spiritual landscape of China, offering new insights into both Chinese and Pentecostal Christian history. It is an important read for scholars of religious history and theology.Dr. Jacob Chengwei Feng is a Lecturer in Religious Studies at the University of California, Irvine, and a Postdoctoral Scholar at the Center for Missiological Research (CMR) at Fuller Theological Seminary. He holds a Ph.D. degree in Theological Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary. He is the Leader of the Theology Interest Group at the Society for Pentecostal Studies (SPS), a Fellow at Oxford Interfaith Forum, and an Academic Researcher at the Asia Research Center (ARC). Treatise on digital architecture Hovestadt's treatise strictly follows the model of the famous treatises by Vitruvius (De architectura) and Alberti (De re aedificatoria), based on the supposition that we find ourselves in a comparable situation today. Die Berner Trilogie ist ein außerordentliches Beispiel des reformierten geistlichen Spiels; ihre Edition liefert einen wichtigen Beitrag zur Erforschung des vormodernen Theaters. Der anonyme Autor greift auf verschiedene Vorlagen - insbesondere auf die Dramen Friedrich Dedekinds - zurück, es handelt sich also um die Aneignung eines norddeutschen Textes ins Schweizer Milieu. Diese geschieht nicht nur sprachlich, sondern auch in theologischen Details, die zum Beispiel durch den Einfluss Zwinglis zu erklären sind. Insgesamt bietet der Text einen faszinierenden Blick auf das nachreformatorische Schultheater in Bern, das zumindest teilweise noch in der Tradition der Fastnachtsspiele Niklaus Manuels steht, aber auch Anleihen beim Humanistentheater nimmt.

Das Luzerner Apostelspiel ist ein repräsentatives Beispiel für die städtische Theatertradition sowie für die Inszenierung von Heiligkeit in den katholischen Gebieten der Schweiz. Diese Edition präsentiert den Text der fragmentarisch erhaltenen Handschrift erstmals in moderner Gestalt und mit synoptischem Abdruck der Bearbeitungsstufen nebst Einführung und Stellenkommentar. Das ursprünglich aus dem Chorherrenstift Beromünster stammende Manuskript wird vom Luzerner Schulmeister Jakob Wilhelmi für einen zeitgenössisch-städtischen Kontext bearbeitet. Inszeniert wird ein wichtiger Ausschnitt aus der Heilsgeschichte, in dem die Martyrien der Apostel vorgeführt werden und die Zerstörung Jerusalems einen sichtbaren Akt des göttlichen Strafgerichts markiert.

In this study, Travis Bott makes a fresh contribution to the understanding of Hebrew praise language in the Psalms. In addition, he devotes sustained attention to the neglected topic of metonymy in the Hebrew Bible. The theoretical framework for investigating both of these topics and exploring their interaction is cognitive semantics, a major branch of the cognitive movement in contemporary linguistics. Bott defines metonymy as a cognitive process in which one entity (the vehicle) provides mental access to another perceptually contiguous entity (the target). He also draws on recent theoretical developments, such as conceptual metaphor and metonymy, metonymy as a prototypical category, metonymy in lexical polysemy, and the interaction of metaphor and metonymy in expressions (metaphtonymy). A cognitive-semantic approach to the Psalms reveals that metonymy profoundly shapes the concepts and language of Hebrew praise. Bott considers metonymy at both the lexical and contextual levels. At the lexical level, he finds that the two most important nouns for praise in the Psalms, tehillah and todah, exhibit polysemy that is governed by conceptual metonymies. In addition, at the contextual level, he treats the objects and subjects of the four most common verbs for praise in the Psalms (hll, ydh, zmr, brk). He finds that conceptual metonymies drive figurative characterizations of YHWH, the preeminent object of praise, as well as the many praising subjects of Israel. Bott demonstrates that metonymy is both more common and more varied than scholars of the Hebrew Bible have previously supposed.
