Entrepreneurship and growth are central concerns of policy makers around the world. &lt;STRONG&gt;Local Heroes in the Global Village&lt;/STRONG&gt; introduces public policies for the promotion of entrepreneurship on a comparative, primarily German-American level. The book contributes to the debate what role public policies play in stimulating national and regional economic growth. With a better understanding of the complexity and variety of existent entrepreneurship policies in the U.S. and Germany the reader of this volume will be able to formulate best practice, hands-on strategies which aim to promote nations as well as regions in an "entrepreneurial economy".

This book integrates three levels of political–economic analysis: first a comparative institutional analysis of the varieties of capitalism in both Europe and Asia, second a macroeconomic analysis of industrial structural change and economic dynamics of the national economies in Europe and Asia, and then an encompassing analysis of international production linkages and international financial instability which determine the long-term patterns of regional integration in Europe and Asia. The comparison of the European Union and ASEAN delivers some key conditions for a viable long-term regional economic integration to cope with contrasted capitalisms and growth regimes: either pragmatism in the choice of an exchange rate regime, or a form of fiscal federalism. The reader will also find a genuine analysis of the dynamism of the Chinese economy, a study on institutional changes and de-industrialization in Japan, and the increasing international production linkages among China, Japan, Korea, and ASEAN. It is shown how the enlargement of the European Union and the Euro triggered the diverging competitiveness and macroeconomic performances that led to the crisis of a six decades long economic and political process. This book is the result of long lasting Asian–European collaborative research. It is a milestone in the historical and comparative analysis along the régulation theory that aims at understanding the long-run transformations, renewed diversity and interdependence of capitalisms.&lt;br&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;This book explores the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO), the creation of which was approved in the Regulation adopted by the Justice and Home Affairs (JHA) Council on 12 October 2017.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The EPPO will be an independent European prosecution office tasked with investigating and prosecuting those crimes defined in the recently adopted Regulation 2017/1371 on combating fraud against the Union’s financial interests by means of criminal law. As such, it will be a new actor on the EU landscape, governed by the principle of loyal cooperation with the national prosecuting authorities.&lt;br&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;This work clarifies some of the challenges that member states will have to face when dealing with a supranational prosecution authority. In addition, it provides guidelines on how to implement the present Regulation while respecting the fundamental rights of defendants in criminal proceedings.&lt;br&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The book is of special interest in so far as the analysis and perspective of academics is completed with the contributions of legal experts who have either been involved in the negotiations to establish the European public prosecutor or will be closely linked, as public prosecutors, to the functioning of the future European public prosecutor’s office.&lt;br&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

        &lt;p&gt;Die Autorinnen und Autoren dieses Bandes haben eine weitere Reihe von Reden von Spitzenpolitikern zur europäischen Integration aus einer großen Zeitspanne (1945–2022) analysiert, wobei sie jede Rede in ihren zeitgeschichtlichen Kontext gestellt und in den biographischen Hintergrund des Redners eingeordnet haben. Die vergleichende Analyse zeigt, dass die Geschichte der europäischen Einigung keine "langweilige" Geschichte von "Verhandlungsmarathons" über Agrarpolitik und endlose Debatten zur Festsetzung von Preisen für Milch und Hühner ist, sondern die konsensuale und kompromisshafte Lösung für Fragen unterschiedlicher Interessen, die Europa im letzten Jahrhundert zweimal zerstört und in den Untergang getrieben haben. Das Buch zeigt, dass es notwendig ist, wieder zu entdecken, dass das Ideal des europäischen Einigungswerks genauso spannend sein kann wie andere nationale geschichtliche Kontroversen. It was by no means evident that Europe would ever find a path towards unification. Of course, World War II led to the self-destruction of the old system of international relations between sovereign nation states. Nevertheless, the nation states were revived in a new setting. Moreover, there were now 'superpowers': The US and the Soviet Union, who shaped the post-war world. The European Union struggled to emerge as a player of its own right. Its history was never a straight path forward towards ever-increasing membership and decision-making power at the EU level; it was marked by ups and downs, by enthusiasm and drama. This story helps us to understand what the EU is today.</p>
