It was by no means evident that Europe would ever find a path towards unification. Of course, World War II led to the self-destruction of the old system of international relations between sovereign nation states. Nevertheless, the nation states were revived in a new setting. Moreover, there were now 'superpowers': The US and the Soviet Union, who shaped the post-war world. The European Union struggled to emerge as a player of its own right. Its history was never a straight path forward towards ever-increasing membership and decision-making power at the EU level; it was marked by ups and downs, by enthusiasm and drama. This story helps us to understand what the EU is today.</p>

&lt;p&gt;The book addresses the truly interdisciplinary and highly controversial subject of international financial regulation and supervision, which has been at the center of academic, political, and public attention since the start of the current economic and financial crisis. Drawing on international financial regulatory and supervisory experience and in line with the European Monetary Union’s gradual transformation into a Genuine Economic and Monetary Union, it proposes the transformation of the European financial supervisory framework into a hybrid twin-peaks model to create the previously missing necessary legal foundation for the adoption of the so-called Group Support Regime (GSR). The latter is a relatively simple and transparent capital management tool for (re)insurance groups operating in a parent-subsidiary structure proposed by the European Commission under the new Solvency II insurance supervisory framework, which despite lengthy consideration was eventually rejected by Member States.&lt;br&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

Der Begriff der Freizügigkeit steht unter anderem im Zusammenhang mit dem Begriff der Unionsbürgerschaft, die 1992 mit dem Vertrag von Maastricht in das europäische Vertragswerk eingeführt wurde. Die Unionsbürgerschaft ergänzt die nationale Staatsbürgerschaft, ersetzt sie aber nicht. Ihre Bedeutung besteht darin, dass mit ihr im Unionsrecht weitere Rechte verankert werden. 
Die vorliegende Dissertation analysiert ein komplexes Thema, indem sie zunächst die Unionsbürgerschaft und die damit verbundene Freizügigkeit und das Diskriminierungsverbot beleuchtet und sich anschliessend mit dem Freizügigkeitsabkommen zwischen der Schweiz und der EU und dessen Auswirkungen auf die Rechtsstellung von EU-Bürgern in der Schweiz befasst.

&lt;p&gt;Dieses Buch befasst sich mit der Frage der Reform der Verfassungsverträge der Europäischen Union aus gegenwärtiger Perspektive. Während frühere Perioden in der Geschichte des europäischen Integrationsprojekts durch aufeinanderfolgende Vertragsänderungsrunden gekennzeichnet waren, herrscht heute die weit verbreitete Meinung, dass es kaum Aussichten auf weitere Vertragsreformen in naher Zukunft gibt. Dennoch zeigten sich in den vergangenen fünfzehn Jahren verschiedentlich Lücken und Änderungsbedarf im EU-Primärrecht. Proposals for Amendments to the TEU, TFEU and the Charter by Young Scholars of European Law

Reforming the EU Treaties

&lt;p&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;This book explores the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO), the creation of which was approved in the Regulation adopted by the Justice and Home Affairs (JHA) Council on 12 October 2017.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The EPPO will be an independent European prosecution office tasked with investigating and prosecuting those crimes defined in the recently adopted Regulation 2017/1371 on combating fraud against the Union’s financial interests by means of criminal law. As such, it will be a new actor on the EU landscape, governed by the principle of loyal cooperation with the national prosecuting authorities.&lt;br&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;This work clarifies some of the challenges that member states will have to face when dealing with a supranational prosecution authority. In addition, it provides guidelines on how to implement the present Regulation while respecting the fundamental rights of defendants in criminal proceedings.&lt;br&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The book is of special interest in so far as the analysis and perspective of academics is completed with the contributions of legal experts who have either been involved in the negotiations to establish the European public prosecutor or will be closely linked, as public prosecutors, to the functioning of the future European public prosecutor’s office.&lt;br&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
