The contributors to this volume explore the interrelations between processes of norm formation and conceptions of the 
 conditio humana
 in the context of contemporary cultural and technological innovation. Rapid developments in technology and society frequently erode, in whole or in part, normative boundaries of socially evolved structures that are commonly taken for granted. Moral norms that, owing to the context of their emergence, stand in marked contrast to present-day reality of life thus come under increasing pressure to be "updated." Technologies such as artificial intelligence are transforming the scope of human agency. The contributors to this volume address the related ethical challenges, which include the imperative not to constrict this scope prematurely. The processes of norm formation thereby required are indeed subject to social and cultural change, yet they cannot abstract from an implicit conception of the human being. Across the range of perspectives outlined, the contributors bring to light the often concealed anthropological-normative implications and contribute to a pressing and complex contemporary debate. The volume originated from an international conference held at the Theologicum in Tübingen in July 2025 on the occasion of Elisabeth Gräb-Schmidt's retirement. Conceived as a "Festschrift" for her 70th birthday, it has been expanded to include contributions from colleagues and former doctoral students.

Paul's letter to the Ephesians has been beloved throughout church history and is full of theological significance and practical instruction. Its themes revolve around identity in Christ, both as individuals and as the church. Paul's goal is to help believers see the beauty and glory of the church and grow up into maturity. Leading New Testament scholar Thomas Schreiner illuminates the text of Ephesians in this important, stand-alone commentary. Writing from an unapologetically evangelical and Reformed perspective, Schreiner's focus is on exegesis of the text and on drawing out theological significance. For each section of text, Schreiner examines the flow of thought and then provides a verse-by-verse interpretation. While providing a brief introduction to the letter, the author does not dwell much on topics such as authorship, historical background, or text-critical issues. His focus on exegesis and robust theological interpretation makes this an ideal resource for pastors, students, Bible teachers, and educated lay readers.

What is faith? It usually means religious belief, and sometimes diverse religions are grouped together as 'faiths', with reference to 'faith leaders' or 'faith schools'. What we have faith in matters, and that involves our reason, involving claims to truths that affect everyone. Faith is not just a personal attribute, like tastes, but should be open to public examination and debate. 

In this Very Short Introduction, Roger Trigg argues that all faith needs reason. He puts contemporary discussions into historical perspective, particularly in the context of Christianity. The author argues that faith also involves a commitment to action and that matters for all social life. Because religion is typically directed at what is seen as of crucial importance for human life, faith should not be marginalized or privatized. The Gospel of John and the Other Three Gospels

This commentary offers a deep dive into the first century city of Roman Corinth, insight from patristic commentaries on 1 Corinthians, and a focus on Paul's call for unity in the church. Its thesis is that Paul counters the Corinthians' prioritization of knowledge by calling them to focus on the message of the crucified and risen Christ while embodying the virtue of love to animate and unify the church. From beginning to end, this commentary evokes appreciation of Paul's letter of 1 Corinthians as an artifact of first-century social history, and prompts reflection on the letter's challenge to Christ-followers for what it means to be the church.

Schleiermacher-Archiv

Friedrich Schleiermachers christliche Sittenlehre wird vielfach als Kulturtheorie gedeutet, zumal alle wesentlichen Lebensbereiche im Bezug zum Christentum untersucht werden. Dabei geht Schleiermacher äußerst systematisch vor: So beruht seine Kulturtheorie des Christentums auf einem handlungstheoretischen Fundament (und ist nach drei Typen des Handelns unterteilt). Folglich finden sich reichlich Material und zugleich Begrifflichkeiten sowie systematische Zusammenhänge zur weiteren Reflexion und Erforschung. Mithin beschäftigen sich viele Beiträge des Bandes mit Interpretationen der christlichen Sittenlehre - auch vor dem Hintergrund der weiteren Entwicklung der Moderne.
Dass Schleiermachers theologische Ethik es wert ist, aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln erneut interpretiert zu werden, rechtfertigt die Entstehung einer neuen Edition. 1843 hatte sein Schüler Ludwig Jonas eine verdienstvolle, aber nach heutigen Editionsstandards nicht mehr geeignete Publikation der Vorlesungsmanuskripte Schleiermachers und der studentischen Nachschriften in kompilierter Form herausgegeben. In Zukunft werden die Manuskripte und alle überlieferten studentischen Nachschriften digital und historisch-kritisch erfasst zugänglich sein. Überlegungen zur neuen Edition eröffnen daher den Band.
Da Schleiermacher mehrere Disziplinen in einem systematischen Zusammenhang beforschte und unterrichtete, sind viele Anhaltspunkte für Kontextualisierungen gegeben. Einige der Aufsätze stellen die christliche Sittenlehre mit anderen Disziplinen aus Schleiermachers Werk ins Verhältnis, andere gehen darüber hinaus und stellen auch einen Bezug zu aktuellen Themen her.&nbsp;
