The Problem of God in David Hume

Much has been written on the relationship between the nature of temporal reality and the God of Classical Theism. Despite the popularity of this general area, what the physics and metaphysics of spacetime might mean for specific theological doctrines has received less attention. Recently, however, interest in this rich and dynamic interplay of ideas has seen rapid growth. This Element provides both an introduction to the physics and metaphysics of spacetime and a jumping-off point for understanding how these can - and in fact should - inform both Christian theology and the philosophy of religion more generally. The author will argue that the nature of spacetime raises particular and pressing problems for Christianity, specifically the interrelated doctrines of salvation and eschatology, and explore whether adequate solutions to these problems are available.

This book provides the first comprehensive analysis of the principal legal landmarks in the evolution of the law of the established Church of England from the Reformation to the present day.

It explores the foundations of ecclesiastical law and considers its crucial role in the development of the Church of England over the centuries.

The law has often been the site of major political and theological controversies, within and outside the church, including the Reformation itself, the English civil war, the Restoration and rise of religious toleration, the impact of the industrial revolution, the ritualist disputes of the 19th century, and the rise of secularisation in the twentieth. The book examines key statutes, canons, case-law, and other instruments in fields such as church governance and ministry, doctrine and liturgy, rites of passage (from baptism to burial) and church property.

Each chapter studies a broadly 50-year period, analysing it in terms of continuity and change, explaining the laws by reference to politics and theology, and evaluating the significance of the legal landmarks for the development of church law and its place in wider English society.

Heart Sutra

This volume contains contributions to an international conference on "Ecumenical and Interreligious Study Programs - Experiences from Beirut, Hyderabad, Jerusalem and Kyoto", organized 2022 by the Evangelical Churches in Hesse and the Evangelical Mission in Solidarity. Its aim was an evaluation of these study programs based on intercultural experiences. The increasing globalization processes in trade, politics, culture and religion require ecumenical and interreligious training of future pastors and religious educators in foreign cultures in order to tackle the challenges at home. 
 

The contributors are participants of these programs, their organizers abroad or their institutional supporters. The encouraging results of 20-40 years of experience up to now suggest that churches should send more students and invest more resources in these study opportunities.

Dieser Band enthält Beiträge zur internationalen Konferenz 'Ökumenische und interreligiöse Studienprogramme - Erfahrungen aus Beirut, Hyderabad, Jerusalem und Kyoto', die 2022 von der Evangelischen Kirchen in Hessen und der Evangelischen Mission in Solidarität veranstaltet wurde. Sie zielte auf die Evaluierung dieser Programme, die auf interkulturellem Lernen basieren. Die zunehmenden Globalisierungsprozesse in den Gebieten von Handel, Politik, Kultur und Religion erfordern ökumenische und interreligiöse Ausbildung zukünftiger Pastoren und Religionslehrer in anderen Kulturen, um die Herausforderungen zu Hause effizienter zu bewältigen. 

Die Beitragenden sind Teilnehmer dieser Studienprogramme, deren Organisatoren vor Ort sowie ihre unterstützenden Organisationen.
