Value Networks & Supply Chain in Africa
Food security is one of the defining challenges of our time, requiring the mobilization of methodological tools at macro, meso and micro levels, and an end-to-end perspective integrating the upstream agricultural chain and the downstream food chain. Based on their practice and research, the authors have used 3 key tools:
Value networks, which explore how the many stakeholders involved interact and how they can work together to create shared value.
Value chains, which identify where value is created and how it can be strengthened and maximised.
Supply chains, which focus on the practical solutions needed to deliver that value efficiently and effectively.
The book begins by examining the African context before introducing these three perspectives and showing how they can be used together. Ten detailed case studies from different African countries and food sectors then demonstrate how the approaches work in practice.
Bridging the gap between theory and real-world experience, this book offers scholars, policymakers and practitioners a practical framework for understanding food systems, addressing food-security challenges and supporting more resilient, inclusive and sustainable agricultural development across Africa.
