 Stephanie van der Linden
 hat das Stricken von ihrer Oma gelernt. Schon früh entdeckte sie dabei ihre Leidenschaft für die mathematischen Strukturen von rechten und linken Maschen und wurde schnell zu einer begeisterten Stricktechnik-Forscherin und Standard-Werk-Autorin. 1947 erschien in Paris ein großformatiges, 55-seitiges Heft unter dem Titel "Dos gezang fun vilner geto", herausgegeben von dem Dichter und Partisan Shmerke Kaczerginski. Es enthielt eine Sammlung von 37 Liedern, die im Ghetto von Wilna in der Zeit der deutschen Besatzung und der Shoah entstanden und die die Erfahrungen der Bevölkerung beschreiben. Das Heft war auf Jiddisch geschrieben, d. h. in hebräischer Schrift. Nur 100 nummerierte Exemplare wurden gedruckt. Einige dieser Lieder sind heute weltberühmt, andere kaum bekannt. 
Dieter Koller und Sebastian Wogenstein haben die Lieder mit Noten in dieser kommentierten Neuedition transkribiert, in ein singbares Deutsch übertragen und die Schicksale der genannten Personen sowie die Geschichte der Orte sorgfältig recherchiert. Zusätzliche Materialien und Abbildungen geben einen bewegenden Eindruck vom entschlossenen Widerstand gegen die Besatzer, die mit der Bevölkerung auch die vielfältige jüdische Kultur Wilnas auslöschen wollten.
