&lt;p&gt;This book showcases a selection of award-winning cases from the Global Contest for the Best China-focused Cases. The contests held between 2018 and 2022 recognized 63 exceptional cases, 13 of which are in this publication.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Each of the 13 cases has a unique focus. Some investigate how to capture value through new technologies and innovations or examine the intricate relationships between strategies, business models, and financial performance (examples include Freshippo, KFC China, Winner Technology, Geek+, and Alibaba vs. JD.com). Others analyze Chinese companies’ challenges when entering international markets and their strategic responses (Midea and SHEIN). Some delve into leadership, entrepreneurial management, family business succession, negotiation, and conflict management (EtonHouse, Antigal, Qiangda Chilli, and Dispute over Year-end Bonuses). Two cases discuss how social enterprises can better balance their social purposes with financial sustainability and how companies can integrate social and business innovation (Daddy Lab and AstraZeneca). These cases originate from Chinese and international business schools, highlighting global interest in China's business and management dynamics.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Echoing the Chinese proverb, “A single spark can start a prairie fire,” we firmly believe that with collective efforts, more faculty members will recognize the value of the case method and the extensive opportunities of China-themed cases in global management education. &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-US"&gt;This book provides a comprehensive analysis of Bhutan&amp;rsquo;s economic growth and productivity dynamics from 1990 to 2022, with a special focus on hydropower development. Through the construction of detailed industry-level productivity accounts, the study addresses significant data gaps in Bhutan&amp;rsquo;s national accounts, measuring outputs and inputs across various sectors and developing quality-adjusted labor and capital input series. The analysis reveals the complexities of Bhutan&amp;rsquo;s hydropower-led growth strategy: while the sector has driven substantial economic growth, its contribution to overall productivity improvement has been limited. The electricity sector shows gains in labor productivity but declining capital productivity, resulting in stagnant Total Factor Productivity (TFP). The study also examines productivity trends in non-electricity sectors and addresses potential &amp;ldquo;Dutch disease&amp;rdquo; effects on manufacturing and agricultural competitiveness. International comparisons place Bhutan&amp;rsquo;s productivity performance in a regional context, revealing significant gaps in productivity performance, particularly when compared to India, Bhutan&amp;rsquo;s largest trading partner and a regional economic benchmark. This comparative analysis informs policy recommendations for achieving more balanced and sustainable economic growth. The findings are particularly relevant for Bhutan&amp;rsquo;s Thirteenth Five-Year Plan (2024&amp;ndash;2029), which emphasizes productivity improvements across all economic sectors. The book serves as a valuable resource for policymakers, economists, and researchers interested in development economics, particularly those focused on the unique challenges faced by small, landlocked nations pursuing sustainable economic development.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;div class="x_x_elementToProof"&gt;&lt;span data-olk-copy-source="MessageBody"&gt;In unpacking credit relationships and payments over the past 1000 years in addition to how technological innovations are shifting the credit relationships/payments landscape &amp;ndash; from barter, commodity money, single layered to dual-layered financial money systems and from CBDC to stablecoins &amp;ndash; this book&amp;nbsp;systematically explores the various techniques that have been introduced in an attempt to improve the organisation, efficiency and stability of the IOU economy as a way to mitigate or prevent the universal challenge of the IOU economy from binding.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div class="x_x_elementToProof"&gt;In doing so, the book first unpacks how credit relationships, payments and economic life have developed throughout history, and sheds light on how the adoption of various techniques have led to greater efficiencies in payments across time. In addition, the book also explores how technological innovations are shifting the credit relationships/payments landscape. Subsequently, the book demonstrates how the adoption of five major techniques have to a large extent mitigated (but not eliminated) the threat of the universal challenge of the IOU economy from arising. With this, the book also envisages that the adoption of systems of financial accounts provides a didactic framework for those who are interested in studying topics in credit relationships and payments at an intermediate/advanced level (e.g. masters level university students, academics etc.).&lt;/div&gt;

&lt;p&gt;This book presents a comprehensive overview of central banks and their functions, from the first ‘banks of issue’ in the late 17th&amp;nbsp;century to their place in modern advanced economies. It traces the growth of these institutions through time, and raises pertinent questions about their political representation in the present day.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;With a broad focus on themes of money creation, monetary policy, foreign exchange policy, and supervision and regulation, this book demonstrates how central banking grew significantly during the 19th&amp;nbsp;century with the establishment of central banks as an independent institution. It discusses the transformations to central banking brought about by the upheaval of the 20th&amp;nbsp;century, including world wars, economic crises, and social unrest, with the creation of ‘fiat money’ replacing a rigid gold standard, and charts these changes across different country settings including the evolving relationship of central banks to both democratic and authoritarian political systems. The book argues that challenges to central banking come from opposite sides: theories that see the government as the sole creator of currency and deny any autonomy to the central bank, and the emergence of private, unregulated cryptocurrencies, where the concept of money is framed in an anarchic vision of the society. &lt;p&gt;This book examines the early decades of economic nation building in Ireland. It draws on a large amount of previously unstudied archival material to construct a novel contribution to Irish business and economic history that focuses on government relations, business power and wider dynamics of power in a decolonising context.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The book adopts a different approach to the early decades of Irish independence, decentering the typical focus on party political developments, Church-state relations and Anglo-Irish relations. Instead, the book explores the role of Irish businesses and services and their engagement with the governing elites of the time. More than just offering a general survey of Irish businesses in the early years of independence, the chapters of this book illuminate and analyse the ‘commanding heights’ of the economy, the Marxist term for the core distribution channels of capital and labour. In particular, the book focuses on four key strategic sectors – banking, insurance, shipping and rail – to analyse the tensions between the new Irish nationalist political elite and embedded business interests from the pre-independence era, how these led to the transformation of the Irish economic model by the late 1950s, and its gradual integration into a newly globalising world economy.
