Die&nbsp;Zeitschrift für archäologische Aufklärung&nbsp;setzt sich zum Ziel, die Aktualität antiker Artefakte zu demonstrieren. Sie präzisiert Konzepte antiker Dingwelten, ihre Mechanismen sowie Regelsysteme und sucht im Trümmerhaufen der griechisch-römischen Antike nach Lösungen für die Aporien der Gegenwart. God's Philanthropist examines the worldview and philanthropic aspirations of the investor turned philanthropist, Sir John Templeton (1912-2008). Drawing on his books, essays, interviews, and occasional works, it reconstructs what Templeton believed people's lives, and the societies in which they lived, should look like, and investigates the philanthropic means by which he hoped to turn those ideals into reality. God's Philanthropist focuses on three key areas--religion, political economy, and modern science--upon which Templeton reflected at length and from which he repeatedly drew to construct his views of the nature of reality, the well-lived life, the well-ordered society, and history. The wide-ranging worldview that he developed directly informed the instructions he bequeathed to his philanthropic organizations. These instructions represent the institutionalization of Templeton's ideas for achieving material and spiritual progress and reflect his understanding of the domains in which he thought progress most needs to be made, the methods by which it will be made, the people most likely to make it, the political and economic conditions likely to best facilitate it, the theological convictions that frame and justify it, and the incentives that will encourage such progress to continue being made long into the future. Providing the first comprehensive account of the main strands of his thought, God's Philanthropist enables readers to identify which of the complex array of forces shaping our world are consistent with, and potentially attributable to, Templeton and his philanthropic organizations. Equipped with this knowledge, readers will be better positioned to decide whether the directions in which Templeton wants to take us are those in which society should go.

Adrian Weiß analysiert die politischen, aber auch ganz alltägliche Umbrüche in ostdeutschen Schulen zwischen 1989 und 2005 und rekonstruiert, welche prägenden Erfahrungsmuster sich in diesem Prozess bei Lehrpersonen herausbildeten. Die bisher enge gesellschaftliche Integration löste sich Anfang der 1990er Jahre auf. Hierdurch verlor die Berufsgruppe nicht nur institutionelle Sicherheiten, sondern beklagte auch Ansehensverlust, sich ändernde pädagogische Beziehungen und eine wandelnde (bildungs-)politische Ordnung. In diesem Prozess entwickelten sie aber auch eigenständige Selbstkonzepte und Reaktionsmuster.

This book was originally published in 1981 at a time when mass unemployment had returned to the United Kingdom. Now reissued with a new Preface by the author's literary executor, the essays in this volume discuss in detail the damage that was being done to the community and the economy at national and regional levels as a result of government policy. There are chapters on the political and economic aspects of the problem, on the comparison with the inter-war years, on youth unemployment and on unemployment in each of the regions worst affected. The collection as a whole provides an authoritative overview of a central political issue of the late 20th Century but one which still has resonance today as the post-Covid, post-Brexit UK economy teeters on the edge of recession.

Originally published in 1964, at a time of much public unease regarding redundancy, this book contains the results of a comprehensive survey, inspired by a suggestion of the then Minister of Labour that the mass redundancies in the Midlands motor industry of 1956 merited a full-scale investigation. The findings are based on an analysis of a 1 in 10 sample of men made redundant in Birmingham in the period. Among the matters examined are the difficulties encountered in obtaining work after redundancy; the range of geographical mobility and the role played by the then employment exchanges in securing new employment. Other chapters focus on the financial hardship caused; the resort to savings and the impact of the redundancies on the gender balance in the workforce. The impact of the dismissals on trade union affiliation is also considered, as are the men's verdicts on the 'fairness' of the selection procedure adopted.

Originally published in 1971, this wide-ranging study illuminates many crucial wage and employment issues by examining the operation of local labour markets and by testing labour market theory against the observed behaviour of employers and employees in different labour market environments. It is based on an empirical investigation of engineering plants both in major conurbations and in smaller labour market areas. There is an emphasis on measurement and quantification, which provides a fund of information on such subjects as wage structures, labour turnover, recruitment and mobility, internal labour markets, manpower forecasting, apprentice training and redundancy.
