Footwear Impression Evidence
A Visual Course on Prints, Casts, Photographs, and Comparison Limits
A short visual field course on shoeprints - how they are found, photographed, cast or lifted, and then qualified.
A footwear mark is physical evidence first. A later claim that this worn shoe made that mark is a different, much harder sentence. This handbook keeps the two claims apart.
Ten compact lessons plus original plates walk through visible, plastic, and latent deposits; class, wear, and randomly acquired characteristics; overall / mid-range / examination-quality photography with an L-scale; dental-stone casts; electrostatic and gel lifts; known shoes as evidence; the SWGTREAD comparison sequence; and the difference between PCAST's 2016 gap statement and Hicklin's 2022 black-box measurements.
You will learn how to:
- Protect a transient mark before rain, mopping, or traffic takes it.
- Shoot a print so size can still be measured later.
- Choose cast versus lift without treating either as a souvenir.
- Stop at class correspondence when that is all the file can carry.
- Read 2016 and 2022 as dated scientific records, not as slogans.
