        &lt;p&gt;Vor mehr als zwei Jahrhunderten wurden in England Lohnzuschüsse für Geringverdienende und Arbeitslose eingeführt. Das als Speenhamland bekannte System wurde gelobt, kritisiert und persifliert. Nach dem Stand der Forschung trugen nicht nur niedrige Energie- und Transportkosten, sondern auch relativ hohe Löhne und Lohnsubventionen zum Vorsprung der britischen Wirtschaft bei, da sie die Massenkaufkraft steigerten. Diese Studie analysiert das Speenhamland-System, seine Funktionsweise und Auswirkungen, und untersucht, warum es trotz positiver Effekte nach 40 Jahren abgeschafft wurde. This book ties restorative justice into the exercise of patriarchal power. It is focused on the individual narratives of 15 girls and young women who have participated in a victim-offender restorative justice (RJ) conference and the perspectives of youth justice practitioners. &lt;i&gt;Gender, Power and Restorative Justice&lt;/i&gt; expands feminist engagement with RJ by focusing critical attention on the importance of the social construction of gender, the exercise of power, shame, stigma, muting and resistance to girls’ experiences of RJ conferencing. Drawing upon recent developments to the sociology of stigma and feminist perspectives on shame, the book contends that RJ conferencing can produce harmful implications for girls and young women who participate. Ultimately it is argued that anti-carceral, social policy alternatives, underpinned by feminist praxis, should replace a youth justice jurisprudence for girls. This book will be of particular use and interest to those studying modules on criminology, youth justice, criminal justice and social work courses.

&lt;p&gt;This is the first socio-legal multi-jurisdictional study on hazing (ragging). This book considers four countries: the USA, India, Sri Lanka, and Australia. It states the legal position, identifies lacunas in law, and proposes possible legal solutions. Unfortunately, laws, regulations, and policies have failed to stamp out hazing from university campuses and residential colleges.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Hazing has spiralled out of control in a number of countries. It has descended into a cruel, barbaric, and inhuman practice. The number of students subjected to hazing and sexual abuse is alarming. According to a 2022 survey, more than half (53%) of American students who were part of a fraternity or sorority experienced hazing. Students are murdered, harmed, abused, and suffer long-term trauma. The prevention of hazing is one of the most important responsibilities of 21st century universities.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The theme of the book is that universities are in the best position to protect students from hazing and must play a vital role. As a sociological study, the book also considers why hazing occurs and what can be done to prevent it. Without engaging with the underlying causes, legal punitive measures continue to address the symptom rather than the cause. The book, therefore, explores how a more innovative approach to regulation can help tackle the cause.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The book will be of interest to policy makers, regulators at universities, education and legal academics, and personal injury lawyers.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

Academic Paper from the year 2024 in the subject Law - European and International Law, Intellectual Properties, grade: 28/30, Bocconi University, course: European and International Advanced IP Law, language: English, abstract: This paper aims to explore the interplay between trademark law and the often-elusive concept of bad faith against the backdrop of protecting the Champagne Geographical Indication by examining the case of CIVC and INAO v. Keep Waddling International Pte. Ltd. [2020] SGIPOS 10 and its implications within trademark and GI jurisprudence. 

The unique reputation of champagne is guaranteed by the protection afforded by the Champagne GI, a type of intellectual property right primarily cited in the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS), ensuring that the label champagne can only be used for sparkling wines produced from certain grape varieties grown in the eponymous region in France. Protecting the appellation of origin reassures the consumer product authenticity and the strict restraints on the words use by the CIVC and INAO is motivated by the anticipation of the term and therefore the product of champagne becoming arbitrary and universal with unlimited use. 

The degree of similarity of terms and the therefore resulting likelihood of confusion for the consumer plays an essential role in deciding whether signs for products manufactured outside the Champagne region can be granted legal protection or not. In the case considered, the inclusion of "ChamPeng" in the Applicant’s trademark led to the refusal of its protection, not because the trademark would not meet the necessary registration requirements, but because its similarity to the champagne term gave inference for bad faith. Since the case’s dispute does not arise from a false claim or deceptive information, it particularly diverges from traditionally established bad faith categories. Therefore, the following question arises: How does the case contribute to the conduct of protection of GIs in trademark law?

The examination of the aforementioned issue will involve a comprehensive review of the case under consideration. Initially, the legal foundations and the Applicant's claims that prompted the legal proceedings will be outlined to establish the legal basis of the case. Subsequently, attention will be directed towards presenting the counterpart’s position, providing insights into the potential resolution of the dispute afterwards. Finally, the Court's ultimate decision will be scrutinized to discern its potential impact on enhancing the broader legal framework and in its challenging of conventional boundaries within trademark jurisprudence.
