Critical Thinking Across Disciplines, Vol 1

Theory and Classroom Practice

Inhalt

This edited collection takes a multidisciplinary approach to critical thinking, drawing together leading experts from disciplines including psychology, philosophy, education, and creativity studies to examine the theory and classroom practice of critical thinking. While critical thinking has been intensively studied in psychology, it is an essential skill in almost all disciplines requiring human intellect input. It is a skill with intellectual roots dating back to the teaching of ancient philosophers such as Socrates around 2500 BC, and which has subsequently been developed within domains including education, journalism, law, medical science, information science. In bringing these diverse approaches together, this book seeks to initiate a dialogue that will enable a deeper understanding of critical thinking and a better application of critical-thinking skills in all aspects of our lives. This timely work provides a survey of cutting-edge multi-disciplinary research on critical thinking that sets the stage for an examination of its application to contemporary societal issues in Volume 2, including AI, misinformation, and health communication.
