Since the financial crisis of 2008/09, the world’s major central banks have been struggling to return their economies to higher growth and to reach their inflation targets.
 
 This concise book analyzes the importance of central bank policies for the economy, and specifically investigates the reasons why they have failed to steer inflation as desired. The author, the Chief Economist at Allianz SE, argues that, in an environment of great uncertainty concerning the pass-through of monetary stimulus to the economy, central banks should not focus too narrowly on inflation targets, but should increasingly take the side effects of their actions into account. In particular, he contends that they must seek to minimize the risk of financial booms and busts in order to maximize long-term growth and prosperity.
 
 Building on existing research and contributing to the current debate, the book offers a valuable reference guide and food for thought for policymakers, professionals and students alike.

He is currently a member of Bulgarian&nbsp;National Bank Governing Council.
 Tsvetelina Marinova
 is Associate Professor of Economics at New Bulgarian University, a member of the Paul Bairoch Institute of Economic History (University of Geneva), and an Associate Researcher at LEFMI (University of Picardie Jules Verne). Her research focuses on economic history, history of economic thought, social economy, political economy, and European integration.

Crises are not a new phenomenon in the context of European integration. Additional integration steps could often only be achieved under the pressure of crises. &nbsp;At present, however, the EU is characterised by multiple crises, so that the integration process as a whole is sometimes being questioned.&nbsp;In 2015, the crisis in the eurozone had escalated to such an extent that for the first time a member state was threatened to leave the eurozone. Furthermore, the massive influx of refugees into the EU has revealed the shortcomings of the Schengen area and the common asylum policy. Finally, with the majority vote of the British in the referendum of 23 June 2016 in favour of the Brexit, the withdrawal of a member state became a reality for the first time.&nbsp;Even in the words of the European Commission, the EU has reached a crossroads. Against this background, the twelfth&nbsp;Network Europe&nbsp;conference included talks on the numerous challenges and future integration scenarios in Europe.

The collection of essays is rather more philosophical and reflective as opposed to doctrinal. Each contribution focuses on the nature and operation of justice, the independence of the judiciary, and on judicial style primarily from the perspective of the judges themselves. The book provides perspectives on what it means to be accountable and independent as a judge, the role of language and languages in the quest for justice, while other contributions acquaint readers with the some of the structures of courts themselves, or indeed question for whom judgments are written.Each chapter has been written by a presiding judge, or head of an institution and the book is divided into three parts:&nbsp;- Part I Art and Method- Part II Justice and the Judiciary- Part III Reasoning and Language(s)
