This open access book examines the role of international law in Central Asian affairs and sheds new light on human rights issues in Central Asian politics. It provides various case studies on Central Asian countries, including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. The book is divided into eight parts: Part I sets the context, and places the subsequent chapters in a broader context of decolonisation and development. Part II offers an overview of the role of international law in Central Asia, its relationship with domestic law, and the role of international organisations in its development in the region. Part III discusses selected issues pertaining to regional security. Part IV discusses some human rights developments in Central Asia, including social and economic, labour, digital, and family rights. Part V is devoted to international criminal law, and offers an overview of Uzbekistan´s experience in combating money laundering. Part VI on international trade and investment law discussed the WTO rules on fisheries subsidies, taxation in Central Asia, and stabilisation clauses in mining contracts. Part VII deals with international legal standards of animal welfare, and discusses several environmental case studies in Central Asia. Finally, Part VIII discusses the role of international law as an academic discipline in the region.

The aim of the monograph - to reveal the nature and impact of teacher leadership in educational interaction with the student in formal institutional contexts of music education (music school, music/arts gymnasium, conservatory, music academy), highlighting the diversity and roles of educational participants. The results of the monograph suggest that the conducted research, which aims to demonstrate significant aspects of the pedagogical leadership-based educational interaction with the student, contributes to the improvement of the practice of educating professional music performers. Hence, this research is relevant for teachers who educate future professional music performers at various institutional levels.

The Legitimacy Trap explores the institutional and human costs of state measures to shore up dubious legitimacy. It offers a comprehensive approach to assessing legitimacy and determining on that basis whether a state is in the legitimacy trap, a self-reinforcing spiral toward greater and wider illegitimacy, with the likely endpoint of committed authoritarianism.These propositions are tested against the case study of post-1997 Hong Kong, focusing on political contention and the resulting decline in freedoms during the 2010s. The book revisits key events to show how increasingly authoritarian state practices undermined political legitimacy, compromised legal institutions as they became embroiled in 'lawfare', and further legitimised civil society opposition. These events culminated in the 2020 national security law which signalled the end of liberalism in the territory. The book is divided into three parts, firstly looking at the current legal position on incapacity in a number of jurisdictions. It discusses the recent European project FLEUR, and the associated debates developing around whether legislation dealing with incapacity should aim to support or control the vulnerable person. Secondly, the book looks at the experience of families with vulnerable members.
