An ambitious racer who dreams of becoming the first female F1 champion finds her plans going off track when she catches feelings for her biggest competition in this dishy, delicious contemporary romance for fans of love, Lynn Painter, and Lewis Hamilton. 'The Fast Track takes the checkered flag!' - Jennifer Iacopelli, author of FINDING HER EDGE 'Adrenaline packed and heart-racingly cute . . . this book is definitely taking the top step of the podium!' - Simone Soltani, USA Today Bestselling author of CROSS THE LINE and RIDE WITH ME Justine Kwong has always dreamed of becoming a Formula 1 champion. There's just one problem: no female driver has ever done it before. So when she's offered a coveted chance to race in Formula 3, she leaps at the opportunity. Sure, half the fans think she's just there to fill a diversity quota, and her teammate-the infuriatingly cute Cameron Evans-mistakes her for an intern, but Justine knows her talent will leave them all in the dust. But driving well isn't the only prerequisite to getting noticed, and Justine's forced to fend for herself in a sea of prejudice, paparazzi, and petty backstabbing. There's a lot riding on her ability to navigate the complicated trackside hierarchy-like the open F2 seat that could be her ticket to the big leagues. Except...when Justine and Cameron's bickering gives way to unexpected chemistry, the boy she's falling for may be the one person standing in the way of her dreams-because while they may be teammates, they are also each other's biggest competitor. And with her only shot at glory on the line, this race could break more than just hearts.

the perfect rivals-to-lovers romance for F1 racing fans!

The Fast Track

Motorsport’s most thrilling and perilous era, brought to life with expert narration, exclusive interviews, and Pete Biro's spectacular photography. In the 1960s and ’70s, every form of racing demanded courage in the face of disproportionate risk. In Motorsports Mavericks, the award-winning team of photographer Pete Biro and racing historian George Levy brings us the rise and fall of this “Golden Age” of motorsports through the insights and analysis of the participants themselves—putting us in the same room with history’s greatest racing legends. Pete Biro’s unforgettable photography, much of it unpublished or long unseen, conveys the speed, danger, and glory in vivid detail. It was a time of:

Extremes – Top speeds spiked, risk soared, and racing's popularity exploded.

Legends – AJ Foyt, Dan Gurney, Don Garlits, Richard Petty, Mario Andretti, Jackie Stewart, Niki Lauda, Derek Bell, and more became household names piloting all manner of race cars in series including Formula 1, NASCAR, drag racing, Indy 500, and sports prototypes.

Innovation – Bold experimentation prevailed, led by designers, engineers, and team owners like Enzo Ferrari, Colin Chapman, Jim Hall, and Robin Herd. Racers were as much test pilots as competitors.

It was a window in time that would open and just as certainly close. Racing will never be—can never be—like that again. Featuring a foreword by auto racing icon Roger Penske, Motorsports Mavericks is a visual feast and an insightful, wistful, occasionally humorous look at that golden-and-simultaneously-fraught age when all race drivers courted danger with little in the way of a safety net. Whether you’re an F1 enthusiast, a NASCAR fan, or just love motorsport, this book offers an exhilarating ride.

Fire Power

On a defining evening of the 1980s, Donald Trump hosted celebrities and high rollers in a Jersey Shore town to witness 21-year-old Mike Tyson knock out Michael Spinks in just 91 seconds, earning more than the annual payrolls of the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics combined. Only eight years earlier, Tyson, a troubled child from Brooklyn, was taken under the wing of boxing legend Cus D'Amato in upstate New York. Their story of mutual redemption captivated novelists, screenwriters, and the emerging cable TV industry. Tyson became HBO's leading man long before Tony Soprano. Despite the immense success, Tyson's story was more complex and darker than it appeared. Over the decades, he has been villainized, lionized, and fetishized-but never fully humanized until now. Acclaimed biographer Mark Kriegel, who first encountered Tyson as a young reporter, explores Tyson's life through what he survived rather than whom he knocked out. Tyson, often compared to Jack Dempsey, was more akin to Sonny Liston-Black, feared, and expected to die young. What made Liston a pariah made Tyson a touchstone for a generation influenced by hip hop and gunfire. Kriegel captures not just Tyson's rise but his profound impact on the American psyche.

Throughout the history of football, new leagues have periodically emerged offering high salaries to lure foreign stars - the United States, Japan, and China being prominent examples. Less well known, however, is the case of Colombia. The Colombian professional football league was a brief but remarkable experiment that attracted top South American and European players in the early 1950s, commonly referred to as El Dorado.Drawing on a wide array of archival material and other primary sources, this book explores how a small, economically underdeveloped country with no established football tradition managed to finance such a high-profile "pirate" league while confronting the international football establishment. It examines the economic and social conditions that made it possible to field world-class players such as Alfredo Di Stéfano and Charlie Mitten, and explicitly addresses the domestic and international circumstances that allowed so powerful a league to emerge so far from football's traditional centers of power. This book also traces the collapse of the league and its lasting ramifications for the history of football in the region. It will be of great interest to readers in sports economics, sports history, economic history, and Latin American studies.

Pedagogy and the Struggle for Democracy brings together a selection of Henry Giroux's most incisive essays, analysing neoliberal fascism, public pedagogy, cultural politics, empire, and the politics of disposability, offering both a powerful critique of authoritarianism and a compelling vision of democratic resistance. One of the leading theorists of critical pedagogy and cultural politics, Giroux argues that authoritarianism is rooted not only in political institutions but also in culture, where power operates through education, media, language, historical memory, and the production of common sense to shape consciousness and identity. Developing the concept of neoliberal fascism, he demonstrates how market fundamentalism, authoritarian governance, and cultural power have fused into a new historical formation. Against this politics of domination, Giroux advances critical pedagogy as an essential moral and political practice for cultivating critical thought, collective agency, and the democratic capacities necessary to challenge authoritarianism and transform society.Essential reading for students and scholars of authoritarianism, fascism, neoliberalism, critical pedagogy, contemporary politics, education, cultural studies, political theory, and democracy, this book offers both an indispensable introduction to Giroux's thought and a timely resource for understanding, and resisting, the contemporary authoritarian turn.

This edited book provides a comprehensive study of punitive practices in modern-day Lithuania, highlighting its significance as a democratic European state navigating the continuing consequences of its Soviet-era criminal justice system. Part I traces the cultural, psychological, and historical origins of punishment, highlighting the influence of collective memory and transitional reforms on penal debates. Part II examines the uneven application of criminal justice, showing how it unfairly punishes marginalised and disadvantaged communities. Part III explores advancements in probation, imprisonment, crime prevention, and victim support, showing how reforms can become both symbolic and oppressive. The book offers various criminological viewpoints that contribute to policy discussions about reducing excessive punishment, exploring alternatives, and promoting meaningful justice reform. This vital resource supports the work of scholars in criminology, sociology, law, and related fields focused on social justice and democratic reform.

A Graphic Chronicle

A People's History of Football

The World Cup is here, but what function does a worldwide tournament play in an increasingly belligerent police state, with Donald Trump at the helm?
Publishing on the eve of the soccer World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, this concise, power-packed philippic provides a critical take on the dark underbelly of the beautiful game at its most storied moment.
At the heart of this analysis by acclaimed sportswriter and scholar Jules Boykoff, who himself played soccer professionally, is the concept of sportswashing, where political leaders use sports to stoke nationalism and legitimize themselves on the world stage, deflecting from chronic problems at home. Step forward the recipient of the newly cast FIFA Peace Prize, Donald J. Trump, a titan unrivaled in squeegeeing every drop of personal wealth and prestige from hosting the competition. In this, he is ably assisted by a governing body of global soccer dripping in patronage and corruption.
In these pages Boykoff demonstrates that it is possible to simultaneously treasure the skills and athleticism displayed on the pitch while lamenting their exploitation by malevolent powerbrokers for whom love of the game means nothing next to turning a buck or harvesting prestige. And, as Red Card so skillfully shows, this bait and switch is not confined to soccer. Precisely the same legerdemain will be used to distract and enrich when the Olympic Games come to Los Angeles two years from now.
