Die vorliegende Arbeit widmet sich der Adamsgeschichte im Koran im Licht frühislamischer Exegese und syrisch-christlicher Überlieferung. Im Zentrum steht die Syrische Schatzhöhle - ein zentraler Text des spätantiken syrischen Christentums -, deren Spuren sich in ausgewählten isr¿¿¿l¿y¿t-Traditionen wiederfinden lassen. Anhand von Überlieferungen, die in frühen Auslegungen der Adamsgeschichte rezipiert wurden, untersucht die Arbeit, wie exegetisches Material aus jüdisch-christlichem Umfeld zur Deutung koranischer Passagen genutzt wurde. Sie analysiert Parallelen, narrative Motive und hermeneutische Strategien, mit denen islamische Exegeten diese Stoffe umdeuteten und in den koranischen Zusammenhang einbetteten. Ein besonderer Fokus liegt auf der Frage, wie dieses überlieferte Material muslimischen Auslegern vorgelegen haben könnte - schriftlich, mündlich oder durch Kontakt mit syrisch-christlichen Milieus. Auch die Überliefererketten in frühen Exegesen werden daraufhin befragt, ob sich Hinweise auf solche Vermittlungswege finden. Die vorliegende Arbeit zeigt, wie isr¿¿¿l¿y¿t-Überlieferungen als Auslegungsmaterial in der frühen Koranexegese eingesetzt wurden und in welchem Maß syrisch-christliche Texte wie die Syrische Schatzhöhle deren Inhalte und Formen geprägt haben.

In this study, Ittai Gradel and Nils Arne Pedersen develop a new approach to the apocryphal Testament of Solomon by combining archaeology and textual analysis. The starting point is a group of ten 3rd-century rings, each inscribed in Greek: "Solomon says: 'Watch out!'" The phrase, puzzling as an apotropaic formula, makes sense only in light of the Testament of Solomon, where the king, empowered by a divine ring, subjugates demons. In a climactic episode, Solomon orders two demons to support a massive column until the Day of Judgment - precisely with the words "Watch out!" This unique command, permanently binding the demons, explains its adoption in everyday magical practice.
 

 The rings, securely dated, establish a 2nd-century date for the original version of the text and invite new reflections on its literary shape and development. While the preserved Testament alternates between first-person and third-person narration, the inscriptions suggest that the original form was a longer third-person narrative later abbreviated and reworked. From this basis, the authors develop a theory of its redactional history.
 

 The evidence points toward popular Christianity distinct from the patristic mainstream. Several rings display Christian iconography, one was linked to the pilgrimage site of Abu Mena, and parallels to Jewish Solomonic traditions are also apparent. Alexandria emerges as a plausible place of origin. The interdisciplinary synthesis - archaeology, history of religions, apocryphal studies, and folklore - generates fresh perspectives.
 

 The appendices enrich this contribution with translations of previously inaccessible versions of the Testament of Solomon, including one that contains a newly attested agraphon ascribed to Jesus, as well as a new edition and translation of a Syriac narrative. In this way, the authors significantly reposition the Testament of Solomon within the history of ancient religion and literature.

A major focus of the interpretation is on the analysis of strategic theological ambiguities and vagueness in both letters and their pragmatic potential: The author shows how "Jude" uses the sharply drawn black-and-white contrast to open up an ecclesiological middle ground in which mercy toward theological "border crossers" is demanded. Both, "Jude" and "Peter", develop an understanding of God and Jesus that combines distinction and unity. Eric McDonnell offers a detailed analysis of the literary functions of the three psalms that open the Masoretic Psalter, employing diachronic, comparative and literary-theoretical methods. Beginning with a discussion of the preface in the sense articulated by Jacques Derrida and Gérard Genette, the author distinguishes primary, introductory and prefatorial functions that texts may assume at the threshold of larger compositions. On this basis, Ps 1 and 2 appear as a two-part prefatorial paratext shaping the literary and theological orientation of the emerging Psalter, while Ps 3 serves a different function by introducing the general form of the individual lament, reflecting an early preexilic stage of the collection.
 

 A comparative examination of the Gilgamesh Epic, the Egyptian Book of the Dead and Sirach shows how ancient textual collections reuse traditional materials to advance new literary and ideological purposes, a process described as iterative play in conversation with Derrida and Hans-Georg Gadamer. The author then reviews three influential accounts of the literary development of the Masoretic Psalter and presents an alternative reconstruction that builds on the preceding analyses. Eric McDonnell thus highlights the close relation between synchronic readings and diachronic analysis and demonstrates how both perspectives contribute to understanding the shape and shaping of the Masoretic Psalter.

The Formation of Psalms 1-3 and the Arrangement of the Hebrew Psalter

Uwe Becker offers a comprehensive redaction-critical analysis of key texts in Jeremiah 1-36 in order to draw a completely new overall picture of the development of the Book of Jeremiah. At the beginning of the development was the proclamation of the "historical Jeremiah", who sees an as yet undetermined disaster approaching "from the north" (Jer 4-6) and expresses a restrained, regretful criticism of the last kings of Judah (Jer 21-22). In the course of the book's genesis, the literary prophet, the "prophetic persona", identifies more and more with his task: he is called by God himself to proclaim the word (Jer 1), becomes part of the proclamation with his own body in the sign acts (Jer 13; 18; 19; 32), until he finally suffers from the prophetic task and is persecuted (Jer 36). Although the development outlined here began with the historical Jeremiah, it is to a far greater extent than previously thought the result of complex updating processes. At the same time, they reflect striking changes in the image of the prophet, as can be seen in the genesis of Jer 27-29, a multi-layered discourse text on "true" and "false" prophecy. The historical Jeremiah, who in his presumably authentic words still represents the state religion of Judah, becomes in the course of the book's development the preacher of the inevitable judgment of God and an insistent admonisher of Torah obedience, before he (again) becomes the herald and representative of new salvation at the end (Jer 30f.). With his analyses, Uwe Becker combines a new thesis on the emergence of the prophecy of doom in Judah: it is not to be placed as early as the 8th century, but begins with Jeremiah as the prophet of transition in the late state epoch of Judah.

Contemporary scholarship continues to debate the authenticity and connection of the two letters to Timothy and the letter to Titus. Stefan Krauter critically engages with these current discussions and carefully weighs the respective positions. On the basis of the available evidence - both within the texts themselves and in external sources - a definitive judgment is not possible; an assessment, however, can be ventured: the three letters are read as a deliberately composed pseudepigraphical letter collection that, in the second century, supplemented the ten other Pauline letters already in circulation as a corpus. The unknown author concisely summarizes the central ideas of the earlier Pauline letters. He develops their themes in linguistically innovative ways appropriate to his own time and brings them into dialogue with motifs drawn from the Gospel tradition. In this way, he tries to influence the subsequent reception of Paul. His writings are not a forgery in the sense of fabricating a Pauline intervention in specific second-century controversies. Rather, they give rise to a constructed image of the apostle as the founder of the Christian community who shapes its future by instructing his co-workers. Stefan Krauter situates the letters within the literature and culture of imperial antiquity, with particular emphasis on their philological, cultural and religio-historical interpretation.
