In this study, Ittai Gradel and Nils Arne Pedersen develop a new approach to the apocryphal Testament of Solomon by combining archaeology and textual analysis. The starting point is a group of ten 3rd-century rings, each inscribed in Greek: "Solomon says: 'Watch out!'" The phrase, puzzling as an apotropaic formula, makes sense only in light of the Testament of Solomon, where the king, empowered by a divine ring, subjugates demons. In a climactic episode, Solomon orders two demons to support a massive column until the Day of Judgment - precisely with the words "Watch out!" This unique command, permanently binding the demons, explains its adoption in everyday magical practice.
 

 The rings, securely dated, establish a 2nd-century date for the original version of the text and invite new reflections on its literary shape and development. While the preserved Testament alternates between first-person and third-person narration, the inscriptions suggest that the original form was a longer third-person narrative later abbreviated and reworked. From this basis, the authors develop a theory of its redactional history.
 

 The evidence points toward popular Christianity distinct from the patristic mainstream. Several rings display Christian iconography, one was linked to the pilgrimage site of Abu Mena, and parallels to Jewish Solomonic traditions are also apparent. Alexandria emerges as a plausible place of origin. The interdisciplinary synthesis - archaeology, history of religions, apocryphal studies, and folklore - generates fresh perspectives.
 

 The appendices enrich this contribution with translations of previously inaccessible versions of the Testament of Solomon, including one that contains a newly attested agraphon ascribed to Jesus, as well as a new edition and translation of a Syriac narrative. In this way, the authors significantly reposition the Testament of Solomon within the history of ancient religion and literature.

Christian Blumenthal analyzes and interprets the Epistle of Jude and the Second Epistle of Peter in their cultural setting and illuminates their relationships to their Jewish and Greco-Roman contemporaries. A major focus of the interpretation is on the analysis of strategic theological ambiguities and vagueness in both letters and their pragmatic potential: The author shows how "Jude" uses the sharply drawn black-and-white contrast to open up an ecclesiological middle ground in which mercy toward theological "border crossers" is demanded. At the same time, he elaborates on how "Peter," despite literary polarization, insinuates gray areas and explores border zones. Both, "Jude" and "Peter", develop an understanding of God and Jesus that combines distinction and unity. They describe Christian existence as a tension between the current state of salvation and its yet-to-come completion defined by freedom from danger.

Meike J. Röhrig examines the oracles concerning Egypt in Ezekiel 29-32 from a literary-historical and religious-historical perspective. 
 

 The literary-historical analysis combines text-critical and redaction-critical observations. It results in a redaction-historical reconstruction that ranges from earliest tradita from the 7th-6th centuries to comprehensive scribal additions in the Hellenistic period, thereby taking into account the connections of the seven texts with the surrounding Book of Ezekiel. 
 

 The religious-historical analysis focuses on potential Egyptian influences in the texts, paying particular attention to sources from Late Period Egypt. It uncovers the authors' and editors' increasing familiarity with genuinely Egyptian religious ideas and traditions. In addition to this increased "Egyptization" of the Egypt oracles, another parallel trend can be identified in the later levels of the text: an increasing "Israelization" of Egypt, which is increasingly seen as an other counterpart to YHWH, similar to Israel. 
 

 From a methodological perspective, the work highlights the great theological potential that still lies in the diachronic analysis of this corpus of oracles, which in the recent past has been examined almost exclusively "synchronically," and emphasizes the importance of the methodological intertwining of text criticism, redaction criticism, and religious-historical methods.

Diese Anerkennung - mitgetragen von der anglikanischen Kirche - erstaunt, sorgte er doch zu seinen Lebzeiten immer für Unruhe: sowohl in seiner anglikanischen Herkunftskirche als auch in der römisch-katholischen Kirche, zu der er 1845 konvertierte. Umkehr, Wandel und Erneuerung mutet er auch uns heute zu.
Doch sein immenses Werk scheint heute vergessen zu sein, für den deutschsprachigen Raum zu unsystematisch, zu konservativ, zu personenbezogen, einfach nicht einzuordnen. Die vorliegende Textsammlung ist in Bezug auf thematische Breite, biografische Tiefe und literarische Vielgestalt einzigartig. Sie vermittelt einen authentischen Zugang zur ebenso faszinierenden wie komplexen Gestalt Newmans.
Mit dieser Sammlung können heutige Leser*innen dem Zeugen und Lehrer des Evangeliums begegnen und von diesem Kirchenlehrer lernen, den christlichen Glauben in einer synodalen Kirche selbst zu verwirklichen.

Uwe Becker offers a comprehensive redaction-critical analysis of key texts in Jeremiah 1-36 in order to draw a completely new overall picture of the development of the Book of Jeremiah. At the beginning of the development was the proclamation of the "historical Jeremiah", who sees an as yet undetermined disaster approaching "from the north" (Jer 4-6) and expresses a restrained, regretful criticism of the last kings of Judah (Jer 21-22). In the course of the book's genesis, the literary prophet, the "prophetic persona", identifies more and more with his task: he is called by God himself to proclaim the word (Jer 1), becomes part of the proclamation with his own body in the sign acts (Jer 13; 18; 19; 32), until he finally suffers from the prophetic task and is persecuted (Jer 36). Although the development outlined here began with the historical Jeremiah, it is to a far greater extent than previously thought the result of complex updating processes. At the same time, they reflect striking changes in the image of the prophet, as can be seen in the genesis of Jer 27-29, a multi-layered discourse text on "true" and "false" prophecy. The historical Jeremiah, who in his presumably authentic words still represents the state religion of Judah, becomes in the course of the book's development the preacher of the inevitable judgment of God and an insistent admonisher of Torah obedience, before he (again) becomes the herald and representative of new salvation at the end (Jer 30f.). With his analyses, Uwe Becker combines a new thesis on the emergence of the prophecy of doom in Judah: it is not to be placed as early as the 8th century, but begins with Jeremiah as the prophet of transition in the late state epoch of Judah.

Few passages in the New Testament have provoked as much debate as the pericope of the woman caught in adultery (John 7:53-8:11). Rejected by some as spurious and regarded by others as problematic, it has often been silenced by questions of authenticity. Onyekachi Ugwu reopens the discussion by applying narrative analysis supported by socio-historical criticism. His study situates the episode within the literary and theological structure of the Gospel of John, demonstrating that it resonates deeply with the Gospel's central motifs. The woman placed before her accusers becomes a symbolic figure for Jesus himself - both stand in the middle, both face judgment, and both reveal the failure of human justice. The author argues that the narrative was transmitted orally and later incorporated by Johannine scribes in full consistency with their theological outlook.
