This book explores the best ways for governments to design venture capital investment incentives.

Venture capital is a multi-billion-dollar industry and a major driver of innovation and national growth. Investment in startup companies by venture capital funds helps finance new inventions and create wealth, economic growth, and jobs. However, because venture capital investment is highly risky and sensitive to market downturns, many governments around the world use special legal and tax incentives to help encourage this form of investment. Since the introduction of the first venture capital incentive in the USA in 1958, scores of venture capital incentives have come and gone. These incentives have experienced varied success, with some failing entirely.

Filling a gap in an important area, this book employs a legal and regulatory approach to examine venture capital policy from a global perspective. It uses an analytical framework to evaluate the design, implementation, and success of incentives, and looks at over 60 examples from 25 countries around the world. 

The book is aimed at researchers and policy makers in law, finance and economics, as well as practitioners and investors in the venture capital space. The book introduces the legal aspects of venture capital investment and presents a list of leading practice guidelines and recommendations to help policy makers design effective, efficient, and appropriate venture capital incentives.

This two-volume edited collection is intended to be a contribution to humankind’s efforts to find its way out from the global long-lasting socio-economic crises that have been visible in one form or another since 2008 and has been caused by the monopolistic abuse of free markets and democracy and the replacement of the Keynesian economic model and state capitalism with neoliberalism. The carefully chosen contributions rest on three principles, that we can achieve neither social responsibility nor sustainability if we do not incorporate innovation into a given practice, the importance of non-technological and user-friendly innovations in mutual relations, and the role of technological innovations that make healthy living and work easier.
This first volume explores societal development from neoliberalism to Innovative Sustainable Socially Responsible Society (ISSRS) and the necessity for good governance supporting sustainable behaviour and social responsibility. New Frontiers in Regional Science: Asian Perspectives

This book integrates diversified disciplines, research approaches, and methodologies of area studies, regional economic development, and regional science. With its huge population, China has accomplished rapid economic growth since the 1990s, although the significant income gap among regions and individuals has become a serious problem for its society. China's accession to the WTO in 2001 has had various influences on the entire food system, from agriculture to consumers, through the food manufacturing and distribution industries. The changes in the Chinese food system are considered to have also affected the agriculture and food industries in Asian countries where economic interdependence has been promoted in past decades. The author argues these issues based on interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary methods and approaches and has successfully derived empirical and theoretical results that are rich in policy implications. Global Trends and Dynamism of China's Agro-Food System

The rising volume of critique and commentary about the green economy is preceding a much-needed, global understanding of the concept: the principal aim of this book, accordingly, is to provide a detailed analysis of the emergence, anatomy and workings of the green economy. It traces the evolution of the contemporary green economy idea, interrogates the motivations of green economy strategies and explores how processes of economic-environmental change can be managed. The book draws on examples from across the Global North and Global South to contribute a more diverse understanding of the green economy, and provide useful case study material for students on a wide range of courses.

The ‘green economy’ has emerged in recent years as a ‘new’ concept in economic thinking and has quickly become embedded in mainstream policy and financial discourses. The idea of a green economy has been celebrated by those who see it as a welcome change to the organisation of global and national economies that will result in more ecologically sensitive modes of production and consumption. At the same time, the concept has been subjected to intense critique from several quarters, such as green NGOs and activists as another iteration of ‘business as usual’ or as a mask for capitalism’s continuing and worsening impacts on the environment. But this rush to either praise or condemn the concept, seems to have got ahead of developing a thorough understanding of what the green economy actually is in terms of its rationales, actors, modes, areas and sectors of operation. However, this rising volume of critique and commentary are preceding a much-needed, global understanding of the phenomenon of the green economy. Only then can we really begin to make informed assessments of its strengths, weaknesses and challenges. This book traces the evolution and emergence of the contemporary green economy idea, interrogates the motivations of green economy strategies and explores how processes of economic-environmental change can be managed. The book also provides a global overview of the green economy, drawing on examples from across the Global North and Global South. As much writing on the green economy has, to date, focused almost exclusively on Europe and North America, the book contributes a more diverse understanding of the green economy, and provides useful case study material for students on a wide range of courses.

Most works on Asian or global studies adopt mainstream Neoclassical methods to explain economic and social development. However, quantitative and optimisation techniques are unable to provide a deep understanding of policy change between the West and East Asia. To fill the gap, this book uses evolutionary perspective to interpret economic and social transformations of two global powers, namely, the United States and China. Specifically, this book outlines the roles of culture, institutions and entrepreneurship in the analysis. Instead of logical empiricism in the English tradition, our approach is interpretative and storytelling in continental European tradition. In other words, we adopt hermeneutics and phenomenology in the analysis and apply humanity to economics. There are two aims of this book. First, it outlines the evolution of Austrian evolutionary economics and second, the role of learning in the decision-making process. It focuses on how decision makers learn and how good and bad learners are differentiated.
