Dieses Fachbuch beschreibt die Grundlagen für den Aufbau einer beteiligungsorientierten Gestaltung von Industrie 4.0. In den einzelnen Kapiteln werden Modelle zur nutzerorientierter Technikgestaltung und zur Technikfolgenabschätzung entwickelt, die in Kooperation mit Praktikern aus Industriebetrieben entstanden und am Beispiel von Industrie-4.0-Projekten erprobt wurden. Die Akteure in der Gestaltung von Arbeit und Technik finden Handlungsempfehlungen zur beteiligungsorientierten Gestaltung, in Form von Interviewleitfäden, Workshopkonzepten und Checklisten.Im Technologie-Netzwerk Intelligente Technische Systeme OstWestfalenLippe (kurz: it’s OWL) haben sich&nbsp; rund 200 Unternehmen, Hochschulen, Forschungseinrichtungen und Organisationen zusammengeschlossen, um gemeinsam den Innovationssprung von der Mechatronik zu intelligenten technischen Systemen zu gestalten. Gemeinsam entwickeln sie Ansätze und Technologien für intelligente Produkte und Produktionsverfahren, Smart Services und die Arbeitswelt der Zukunft. Das Spektrum reicht dabei von Automatisierungs- und Antriebslösungen über Maschinen, Fahrzeuge, Automaten und Hausgeräte bis zu vernetzten Produktionsanlagen und Plattformen. Dadurch entsteht eine einzigartige Technologieplattform, mit der Unternehmen die Zuverlässigkeit, Ressourceneffizienz und Benutzungsfreundlichkeit ihrer Produkte und Produktionssysteme steigern und Potenziale der digitalen Transformation erschließen können.

In The Permanent Problem, Brink Lindsey reshapes our understanding of the vital but complex relationship between material prosperity and human flourishing. The advanced capitalist democracies of the 21st century are the richest, freest, healthiest, best educated, and best governed societies in history. Why then does it seem like everything is falling apart? Economic stagnation is spreading, class divisions are deepening, birth rates are collapsing, mental health problems are on the rise, faith in democracy is in decline, and pessimism about the future abounds. In The Permanent Problem, Brink Lindsey argues that these gathering difficulties reflect the stresses and strains of a great and uncompleted historical transition-from mass material prosperity to mass human flourishing. Capitalism's immense productive powers have raised our expectations of what life can be, but for most of us reality is coming up short. What's more, the arrival of mass prosperity has pushed both economic and cultural change in directions that make the transition to mass flourishing much harder to achieve. According to Lindsey, 21st century capitalism is in the grip of three interrelated crises: a crisis of inclusion, as vital social ties and personal connections are breaking down; a crisis of dynamism, as capitalism's engines of innovation and wealth creation have begun to sputter and seize; and a crisis of politics, as the mechanisms for collective decision-making needed to address capitalism's growing problems have been degraded by the very same dynamics that underlie those problems. A much brighter future is possible, and Lindsey charts an intriguing path to get there. There is no need to concoct a radical new social system. Instead, capitalism needs to be refocused on its core mission of extending the technological frontier, and rebalanced through the revitalization of face-to-face communities. Weaving together insights from history, economics, sociology, and philosophy, The Permanent Problem offers a synoptic overview of our fateful present moment and a provocative glimpse at what may lie ahead.

This edited volume examines the legal and economic world of the Romans through concepts, structures, and objects that reveal practices of standardization and localism. It explores the myriad ways in which the Roman Empire became an integrated political, social and economic system. &nbsp;Split across two volumes, the collection addresses the dynamic interaction between Rome and its provinces in developing institutions crucial to societal and economic development.&nbsp; It challenges notions of uniformity, demonstrating how tensions between imperial standardization and local cultures could both drive innovative legal and economic practices and hinder empire-wide integration. The chapters explore broad questions from various disciplinary perspectives, including ancient economic history, law, papyrology, epigraphy and archaeology. Contributions cover diverse topics such as weights, measures, and coinage, legal practices, taxation, and cultural symbols. Each chapter investigates how, even as local communities adopted practices associated with Rome as a ruling power, local customs could, in turn, influence practices across the Empire.&nbsp;By illuminating these reciprocal relationships, this book recontextualizes Roman standardization—not merely as a tool of imperial domination but as evidence of diverse socioeconomic practices and cross-cultural exchanges. It will be a valuable resource for scholars of ancient economic history, classical archaeology, and ancient law, as well as anyone interested in the economy and culture of Ancient Rome.Emilia Mataix Ferrándiz is a Ramón y Cajal tenure track lecturer at the International university of Catalonia (Barcelona). Previously, she has hold postdoctoral positions at the Universities of the Basque Country (Spain), Ghent, Helsinki and the Käte Hamburger kolleg Münster. She has a PhD in Roman law and a second PhD in roman archaeology. She has published extensively on Roman law and its maritime and commercial focus. Koenraad Verboven is professor&nbsp;of Ancient History at the University of Ghent.&nbsp; He specializes in ancient social and economic history, and has a particular interest in monetary history and numismatics, friendship and patronage based networks, professional associations(collegia), and the application of economic theories in historical research.

From the seventeenth century to the First World War, both free and unfree labor were essential for building an empire. This ambitious study examines the relationship between capitalism and coercion across the British, French and Russian empires throughout centuries of economic transformation. Overturning conventional explanations of serfdom, slavery, indentured migration and wage labor, Alessandro Stanziani demonstrates the dominance of gentlemanly capitalism across Europe and Eurasia until the end of the nineteenth century. He links the Industrial Revolution, the Great Divergence and the Great Transformation into a single narrative in which the coercion and emancipation of labor are crucial steps. Stanziani argues that, if the modern state is now beset with labor inequalities and tensions surrounding mobility, it is not because Western values have been hijacked but because they were built on empire, labor and coercion.

From the 1770s the Vienna bread market was rocked by a series of politico-economic and technological changes that questioned the way this everyday foodstuff was sold and produced. In this book, Jonas Albrecht explores how this reconfiguration of the bread market had wide-reaching and significant consequences for a society who relied on this foodstuff to live. Before 1860 the production and selling of bread was embedded into a moral economy with distinct regulations. But as the grain market expanded and new cereal varieties arrived from the empire's peripheries reformers sought to create a 'free' market through liberalizing reforms. The Moral and Market Economies of Bread shows that while terminating market regulation did mobilize and diversify Vienna's bread market in spatial terms, it intensified inequality among consumers. As opaque prices, non-transparent market procedures and diverging power relations between producers and consumers led to unrest, city officials and bakers struggled to meet the shortcomings of the free market from within. This book brings economic, social and urban histories together and employs a spatial approach and GIS methods to explore the relationship between market and society, and capitalism at large.
