Obgleich sich grundrechtsrelevante Fragen in der Fallbearbeitung häufig stellen, sind viele unsicher, wie mit ihnen umzugehen ist. Das neue Buch von Huster versteht sich ausdrücklich nicht als ein weiteres Lehrbuch zu den Grundrechten; es erläutert vielmehr Sinn und Zweck der Figuren der allgemeinen Grundrechtslehren und will damit - abgeleitet aus der Funktion der Grundrechte - zu einer adäquaten, d.h. zu einer an der Intention der Grundrechte orientierten Prüfung des Einzelfalls hinführen.

Over the last two decades, Pakistan has seen major legislative changes in the area of gender-based violence. This book explores the impact and ongoing influence of these changes. A frequent refrain in political and social commentary in Pakistan is that these laws, while transformative on paper, have not translated to actual change in the lives of women and girls because of poor implementation. Through analysis of court cases, data on criminal proceedings, and interviews with activists and survivors, this book demonstrates how the impact of progressive laws is influenced by entrenched social norms and structural flaws in state institutions, especially the criminal justice system. What is a drug? The answer seems so obvious that the question is hardly worth asking. We can all agree that cocaine is a drug, or methamphetamine, or cannabis. But what about sugar? Caffeine? That heavy, sleepy feeling you get after eating a big portion of turkey at Thanksgiving? The extremes of experiences like sex and exercise or love and grief are created by the same consciousness-altering neurochemicals responsible for the highs and lows of a cocaine binge. What about your phone, or your toddler's iPad—can we be addicted to technology? Does using these devices make us "high"?
Drugs are slippery objects, difficult to define. Some make us feel good, others make us ill. Some take the form of pills, plants, or powders. Others, like the runner's high, require no physical substance at all. Much of what we think we know about drugs comes from a handful of well-used cultural narratives: drugs are either a public health menace, a social issue to be fixed, or an age-old criminal and legal problem. The rebels among us might even think of drugs as tools for creativity and artistic production. But despite the profound role drugs have played in human history and society, we rarely give any thought to what drugs actually are, and more importantly, what they do.

The main research methodologies in this book include mathematical modeling, linear programming, integer and combinatorial programming, and stochastic and robust optimization.&nbsp;What makes the book unique is the new insights into network design and planning for platform-based supply chains, which differ from those for traditional supply chains. This makes the subject in this book of significance, although there are abundant existing works on relevant topics for traditional supply chains. Another important feature of this book is the systematic perspective to unify network design in deterministic and uncertain settings for platform-based supply chains. By summarizing the new research results obtained from the implementation of a national project on platform-based supply chain, this provides a generalized scope on network design and planning for large-scale supply chains.

Facing the Child investigates the technocratic expertise in the policing of child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Mitali Thakor argues that CSAM has come to be framed as primarily a digital problem, to be resolved digitally, thereby unleashing a new form of corporatized policing helmed by global technology companies. Ambitious in scope, this multi-sited global ethnography draws on four years of original fieldwork and interviews with technology companies in the US, the United Nations in Bangkok, Thai and Dutch NGOs, and law enforcement in the US and the Netherlands. The book argues that in the 2010s, a network of technology companies, NGOs, and law enforcement created the notion of a “virtual child” in need of techno-solutionist saving to justify a vast expansion of surveillance technologies. The book examines how pervasive myths of child abuse online were exploited to serve the aims of seemingly disparate groups, from Christian neo-abolitionists to NGOs conducting virtual sting operations. It is this complex relationship between the care and securitization needed to fix the child victim as an object of data, concern, and rescue that the book explores.
