Master's Thesis from the year 2025 in the subject Leadership and Human Resources - Recruiting, grade: 1,2, University of Applied Sciences Dortmund, language: English, abstract: This master's thesis explores the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in modern recruitment processes with a particular focus on applicants' trust. As digitalization and AI increasingly transform the world of work, organizations are adopting AI-supported recruiting tools to enhance efficiency, standardization, and data-driven decision-making. At the same time, the use of AI in personnel selection raises important questions regarding transparency, fairness, and acceptance from the applicants' perspective.

The objective of this thesis is to examine how applicants perceive AI-assisted recruitment processes and which aspects are relevant for the development of trust in this context. To address this research objective, a qualitative research design was chosen. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with participants who had either experienced AI-supported recruitment processes or reflected on their expectations toward such processes.

The empirical data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis following Kuckartz' approach. This method allows for a systematic examination of subjective perceptions, attitudes, and evaluations, while combining theory-driven and data-driven coding. The analysis focuses on applicants' experiences with different forms of AI usage in recruitment, their expectations toward human and technological decision-making, and their assessment of AI-supported processes within the broader candidate journey.

By linking theoretical concepts of trust in technology with empirical insights from applicants, this thesis contributes to the growing body of literature on AI in recruiting. In addition, it provides a structured foundation for further academic research and offers valuable insights for organizations seeking to better understand applicant perspectives on AI-supported recruitment processes.

Governments around the world are privatizing everything, with dramatic but largely ignored negative consequences for human rights. This open access book outlines the response that is urgently needed. Corporations are being given control over water, healthcare, housing, public transportation, child welfare services, aged care, and much else. Privatization is promoted by international financial institutions, consulting firms, and development actors as the answer to public finances devastated by the very tax cuts insistently pushed by these groups. Their pitch is based upon a mythology that extols the virtues of an idealized market while ignoring the heavy human rights costs incurred. Building on the latest evidence and on specially commissioned case studies, this book shows how the touted 'efficiency' of the private sector is often predicated on higher charges and/or reduced services, destructive employment practices, and the highly predictable exclusion of many users. Privatization generally costs states more money, marginalizes democratic decision-making, and transforms citizens from rights-holders into customers while sidelining accountability. The authors develop an approach designed to enable human rights actors, including courts, UN treaty monitoring bodies, and NGOs to move beyond their longstanding agnosticism towards privatization. It starts with a presumption that privatization is inherently retrogressive in human rights terms. Whatever mix of public and private is reflected in any given arrangement, governments must retain the degree of control necessary to ensure respect for rights, and the legal, financial and administrative ability to do so. The book charts a new direction for responding to the ever-growing threat that privatization poses to human rights. Pursuing a comparative approach, it explores various aspects of children’s rights as established in constitutional, civil, administrative and criminal law in the region, while also discussing emerging issues. The book shares unique insights into the challenges and progress specific to individual CEE countries, many of which have undergone significant political, social, and legal transformations in recent decades. The comparative analysis of practices and legal frameworks between Lithuania and other countries in the region and across various CEE countries is a key feature of the book. By comparing practices, case law and legal regulations across different CEE countries, it highlights both the diversity and the common challenges in the region. Moreover, such a comparative perspective is invaluable for policymakers, practitioners, and academics in terms of identifying best practices and learning from different countries’ experiences. The respective chapters offer evidence-based insights and recommendations to guide the development of more effective and rights-based approaches to child protection. While aiming to enhance awareness and understanding of children’s rights, the book also seeks to fill a gap in the literature by focusing on the CEE region, an area often underrepresented and overlooked in global discussions on children’s rights. This open access book examines the role played by international, regional, and national legal frameworks in holding corporations operating in the natural resource sector accountable for human rights violations in the Global South.

Influential scholars from across the world address pressing issues concerning the integration of business and human rights standards for better governance of natural resources. They focus particularly on extractive and multinational companies in the Global South and their role in the transition to net zero societies. The book also examines legal mechanisms for corporate accountability under international, human rights and transnational law, using case studies from selected countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

The book reviews proposals for an enforceable legal framework to hold corporations accountable for human rights abuses and environmental damage. It considers initiatives such as the OECD Guidelines on Multinational Enterprises, the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, the UN's Draft Business and Human Rights Treaty, and the European Union Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive.

This open access book examines the intricate connection between family and corruption within both the realms of business and government. While corruption is conventionally characterized as a socially harmful and ethically wrong phenomenon, and family is typically viewed as fundamental to social cohesion, this book argues that these constructs frequently intersect in real-life situations. Kinship ties often function not solely as sources of emotional solidarity but also as channels facilitating illicit transactions and resource misappropriation. From minor nepotism to large-scale state capture, family relationships frequently shape how corruption is organized, justified, and sustained. Drawing on interdisciplinary theories and case material, this book develops a much-needed theory of family corruption. By challenging the conventional dichotomy that segregates family from formal institutions, the analysis reveals how deeply family relations are embedded in everyday social orders, superseding universalistic norms and overriding rational bureaucratic considerations.  is a Professor at the School of Public Affairs of San Diego State University, USA. He received his Ph.D. in Sociology from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. He consults with international organizations such as the United Nations, the European Commission, U4 Anti-Corruption Resource Centre, the Basel Institute on Governance and Transparency International. He was a Fulbright US Scholar to Hungary for the 2024–25 academic year.
