Twio' hieß das fünfte Studioalbum des US-amerikanischen Tenorsaxofonisten Walter Smith III, das im Februar 2018 bei Whirlwind Recordings veröffentlicht wurde. Der Titel war eine spielerische Wortschöpfung aus 'Trio' und 'Two'. Downbeat schrieb damals: ''Twio' präsentiert den großartigen Tenorsaxophonisten in einem kompakten Trio-Setting. Sein Ton und seine Melodik sind umwerfend, gepaart mit reichem, packendem Ideenreichtum'. Für sein drittes Blue-Note-Album greift der Musiker jetzt das Konzept wieder auf und präsentiert mit 'Twio Vol. 2' ein äußerst gelungenes Album mit klassischen Jazzstücken voll swingender Spielfreude. Das Album besticht durch eine neue, wechselnde Besetzung mit Bassist Joe Sanders und Schlagzeuger Kendrick Scott sowie Gastauftritten der Jazzlegenden Ron Carter am Bass und Branford Marsalis am Tenorsaxofon.

Over the last twenty-five years, the concept of per-sonhood has become central to many contentious debates. Corporations have won free speech protections, as if they were individuals. The right to life or freedom has been claimed on behalf of fetuses, trees, and elephants. The fund of human rights is spilling over into the nonhuman. The Problem of Personhood reveals the unsettling consequences of granting rights to imagined persons, such as Sophia the robot citizen or New Zealand’s Whanganui River. Synthesizing the political and phil­osophical debates on personhood and drawing on a varied cast of thinkers that includes Simone Weil, Hannah Arendt, and Dr. Seuss, Lisa Siraganian un­covers the disturbing impact of this contemporary development. Awarding rights to robots and rivers all too easily becomes a legal tool to turn people into capital. When robot Sophia is made a citizen, "she" is transformed into a subject in the law without the corre­sponding legal duties that protect us from her. At the root of this trend is the US Supreme Court’s Citizens United ruling that grants First Amendment rights to corporations as if they were individuals. The result has not been the transformation of things into humans so much as humans into things, when animals and the environment would be better protected with reference to our humanity rather than to theirs.

Fundamentals of Being a Good Girl

Obwohl ihre Zusammenarbeit bereits viele Jahre zurückreicht, ist Memento - ein von lyrischer und subtiler Musizierkunst geprägtes Album - die erste gemeinsame Duoaufnahme von Marilyn Crispell und Anders Jormin. Bei ECM war die US-amerikanische Pianistin Crispell zuvor auf Jormins Zyklus geistlicher Lieder In Winds, In Light (2004) zu hören. Sie hat den schwedischen Bassisten als Einfluss auf ihr eigenes musikalisches Denken bezeichnet: 'Als ich Anders spielen hörte, berührte es eine Saite in mir, die stark nachklang.' Memento beginnt mit einer kraftvollen Folge auf den akustischen Raum bezogener Duo-Improvisationen, bevor es zu Kompositionen der beiden Musiker übergeht. 'Three Shades of a House' ist ein Stück, das Jormin bereits in seiner Arbeit mit Bobo Stenson vorgestellt hat (auf dessen Album Contra la indecisión), hier gespielt in den Varianten 'Morning' und 'Evening' - die erste eine klare, durchsichtige Erkundung des Themas mit Crispell im Vordergrund, die zweite eine Meditation für dunkel timbrierten Bass. Crispells 'The Beach at Newquay' zeichnet die Küste Cornwalls nach, wobei Jormins hoch angesetzter Arco-Bass Möwenschreie evoziert. Das Album schließt mit 'Dragonfly', gewidmet dem Andenken an Gary Peacock. Durchgehend reagieren die Musiker auf die sensible, detailverstärkende Akustik des Auditorio Stelio Molo RSI in Lugano. Das Album wurde im Juli 2025 von Manfred Eicher produziert.
