NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR The Right has spent decades trying to win elections. The Left has spent decades deciding who controls everything else.In How the Regime Rules, New York Times bestselling author Christopher F. Rufo delivers his most explosive work yet, exposing the hidden architecture of American power and revealing a battle plan for the New Right to dismantle it.The Regime is not a conspiracy. It is something far more formidable—a sprawling network of Deep State bureaucrats, media gatekeepers, university administrators, corporate executives, and ideological enforcers who dictate what Americans can say, what they are permitted to believe, and who gets destroyed for stepping out of line. Its reach is ubiquitous, its accountability virtually nonexistent. And for decades, conservatives have mistaken capitulation for statesmanship. Rufo demolishes the comforting fiction that institutions can be neutral, that the marketplace of ideas is fair, or that the Right can simply retreat from the contest for influence. The system is not broken. It is functioning precisely as its architects intended.Rufo knows how to expose the machinery and dismantle it. He transformed DEI from an untouchable orthodoxy into a political liability. He propelled allegations of Somali welfare fraud into the national spotlight. He identified structural vulnerabilities, punctured manufactured consensus, and demonstrated how seemingly impregnable bastions of authority can be forced onto the defensive. Now he reveals the playbook. From Samuel Adams and the Sons of Liberty to dismantling ideological strongholds in higher education, Rufo uncovers the mechanics of political domination. How narratives harden into unquestionable truths, how elites perpetuate their own authority, and how disciplined insurgents can upend an entire political order.Rufo agrees with the Left on one fundamental point: Every institution is an instrument of a particular vision of society. In How the Regime Rules, he argues that conservatives must stop mistaking political restraint for moral superiority, cultivate a formidable counter-elite, and master the levers of influence that shape American life. The Regime has perfected the art of ruling without appearing to rule. Now Rufo turns its own methods against it, showing the Right how to reclaim America's commanding heights and chart a new course for the country.

In How the Regime Rules, New York Times bestselling author Christopher Rufo delivers a bold, unflinching examination of how America’s founding spirit was transformed—and, in his telling, betrayed—by the rise of modern bureaucratic power. In How the Regime Rules, Christopher F. Rufo—the New York Times bestselling author who nuked Critical Race Theory, gutted DEI in corporate boardrooms, put Somali fraud on the map, and toppled the president of Harvard—delivers his most explosive work yet: a manifesto for the evolving right and a scorched-earth blueprint to shatter the invisible power structure that now governs America. We all know the Regime. It’s the interlocking web of the Deep State bureaucracy, biased media, corrupted academia, and corporate middle managers that enforces conformity, doles out status to favorites, and crushes dissent. Instead of ruling by winning elections, the Regime rules through cultural capture—dictating what you are allowed to say, think, and believe. Rufo strips back the curtain on their operation, turning the Left’s own playbook against them to show how a radical minority seized the commanding heights of American life. He tracks the bureaucratic rot that traded our founding spirit for a system of managed decline, from the administrative state’s silent coup to the ideological hijacking of our elite institutions. But the time for grievance-filled exposés is past. Now is the time to build real, lasting political power. The old GOP establishment failed because it spent decades begging for a seat at the Regime’s table—only to be mocked, then discarded. The "New Right" too often gets distracted by petty revenge and backward-looking saltiness. Rufo rejects both. Instead, he offers a high-energy, forward-looking vision: building a counter-elite that is rooted in real community, culturally dominant, relentlessly entrepreneurial, and unapologetically patriotic—just like the Founding Fathers. Patriots are already building independent businesses, parallel media ecosystems, homeschool networks, and tech startups that operate entirely outside the Regime’s thumb. Rufo provides a practical counterrevolution roadmap—dismantling the power of bloated bureaucracies, purging left-wing racialism from federal agencies, restoring merit in our universities, and shifting the fight from pure culture wars to the economic realities of the working man. Build it well—make it vibrant, profitable, and bold—and the American people will follow in droves. How the Regime Rules moves us past easy wins or empty nostalgia. It equips us with the strategy, tactics, and spirit required for total national reconstruction. Drawing on his hard-won victories and a cold-blooded analysis of how power actually works, Rufo shows how a new generation can seize the initiative, recapture the American spirit, and restore self-government.

And the Art of Counter-Revolution

How the Regime Rules

A collection of eye-opening natural experiments, showing how economists uncover cause-and-effect relationships and reveal insights about our world. Does having a daughter change how a congressperson votes? How did a nineteenth-century doctor help discover germs? Is it better to go first or second in a penalty shootout? Why don’t diplomats pay their parking tickets? Do leaders really matter? These are all questions economists ask. Some of these questions are serious, others less consequential. But all are interesting—and can be answered by way of the natural experiment. A natural experiment is an event in the real world that neatly divides people into a treatment group and a control group—and it is one of the greatest tools in the economist’s toolkit. In Daughters, Diplomats, and Death, Patrick Gourley discusses why and how economists have leveraged this powerful method to answer questions that were long thought unanswerable. In the vein of Freakonomics, Nudge, and The Tipping Point, the book takes the reader on a lively and engaging tour of some of the most fascinating natural experiments, explaining how they work, how they help social scientists answer questions, and what conclusions they reached. The experiments illuminate a wide range of timely issues in health, education, reproductive issues, and the environment, lending rich and much-needed nuance to the complex debates that shape today’s headlines.

“Holm’s goal is to clarify and assess F. A. Hayek’s critique of legislation. The author knows the extant literature intimately and brings an interdisciplinary sensibility to his task. The result is a carefully-argued and original contribution to Hayekian studies. “–Bruce Caldwell

Hayek: A Life"This book is an in-depth treatment of F. A. Hayek's incomparable 20th Century contributions to the study of rules, order, and economy."–Vernon Smith
, Professor of Economics and Law at Chapman University, USA, and 2002 recipient of the Nobel Prize in Economics
This book argues for a comprehensive reframing of Friedrich Hayek, one of the most influential economic and social thinkers of the twentieth century. Its focus is on the role of legal philosophy and legislation in understanding Hayek's views on social and economic planning, and in particular his critique of socialism. The book examines Hayek's later works on the shortcomings of legislation as the primary political tool used by governments to coerce otherwise free economic activity. It argues that Hayek's view of social and especially legal rules equates to a reformulation of his critique of planned economies, which has so far been understood in purely economic terms. The book argues that Hayek should be considered an important scholar in the realm of complexity theory, showing that his writing on intertwined legal and economic systems paved the way for a greater understanding of how individual agents and the 'spontaneous order' of the economy is inevitably regulated by the rational social order brought about by moral and legal rules and institutions. The book itself seeks to break the tradition of studying Hayek's work from isolated legal or economic lenses. Cyril Holm
is an Associate Professor of Law at Karlstad University, Sweden. His academic background is in economics, the history of science and legal philosophy, the latter of which is currently his primary research interest. He has teaching and research experience at the interface of law, economics, complexity theory, technology and future studies.

The social, political, and historical context of the current Israeli-Palestinian War told through the stories of the author’s family and village. "Ramzy Baroud's sensitive, thoughtful, searching writing penetrates to the core of moral dilemmas."—Noam Chomsky A profound exploration of Palestinian history and resilience through the personal stories of the author’s family—the al-Badrasawis. Beginning with intimate details of village life in Beit Daras prior to the Nakba, Ramzy Baroud vividly portrays the rich cultural heritage, deeply rooted traditions, and daily struggles faced by ordinary people whose lives were radically disrupted by the violent upheavals and ongoing conflicts driven by British colonialism and Zionist aggression. Baroud weaves together past and present, illuminating how historical forces shaped the collective consciousness and steadfast resilience of the Palestinian people. His storytelling reveals not only the harsh realities of occupation, displacement, and loss but also the extraordinary courage, faith, and solidarity that underpin a powerful and enduring spirit of resistance, encapsulated in what the author refers to as the Palestinian “longue durée.” Ultimately, Baroud aims to humanize and reclaim Palestinian narratives from distorted portrayals, highlighting their perseverance and the universal quest for justice and liberation.

A Gaza Family Memoir Across Three Generations of Colonial Invasion, Occupation, and War in Palestine

Before the Flood

What goals are still feasible for the politics of emancipation on a ruined planet? This is where we are. Today's techno-oligarchs are not concerned with saving the planet; rather, they have accepted the end of progress and are focused on safeguarding their wealth in the face of an impending political and ecological collapse. Artificial intelligence and algorithms make decisions for us. Climate breakdown has long steamed past the wreckage of the Paris Agreement.Perhaps the accelerationists have the right idea. Accelerationism - which aims to resolve the current crisis through the intensification of technological development - is the only philosophy not clinging to the now-extinct idea of progress. The idea has gained ground on both the left and right: but the right-wing is shot through with misanthropy, while the left remains entangled in a faith in technological progress and the domination of nature.Transcending capitalism at the end of progress requires a synthesis of the two. The result of this synthesis: Dark Socialism. From 'rock star philosopher' Kohei Saito comes an anticapitalist clarion call for our breakneck times, channeling despair into a socialist project equal to the end of progress.

From California Governor Gavin Newsom comes an intimate and poignant account of identity, belonging, and the defining moments that inspired a life in politics “Go slow,” his political elders advised him, but Gavin Newsom has never known such a speed. For Newsom, the California Dream is what lured his father’s family from County Cork, Ireland, six generations ago. His great-great-grandfather, a cop, walked a beat in San Francisco, where almost 150 years later, Newsom would be elected as mayor, running on the values instilled in him by his family history: that California’s open arms must continue to extend to each new generation. Newsom has never lived anywhere but California. Born in San Francisco, his parents divorced at a young age, and his childhood was spent being tugged between two worlds: his mother worked three jobs in order to care for her children while his father, a close friend of the Getty family, brought Newsom into San Francisco society, a world of wealth and connections. The dissonance was frustrating, and made all the more difficult because of undiagnosed dyslexia, but the vantage point was valuable: he inherited his mother’s perseverance and his father’s reverence of California, not only its wildness, but its opportunity. In Young Man in a Hurry, Newsom traces the forces that have defined his ambitions as a politician and have pushed him to outpace the nation on myriad cutting-edge social issues that have since entered the mainstream. As mayor of San Francisco, he made waves when he violated state law in order to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, more than ten years before the Supreme Court made such unions legal. He launched bold efforts to counter climate change, improve mental health care, and enhance gun safety, and worked to preserve the California Dream for his constituents. Elected as governor on the eve of unprecedented wildfires and entering office into immediate hyper-partisan headwinds from Washington, DC, Newsom has constantly and consistently stuck his neck out. Here for the first time, he reflects on the long personal journey that ultimately shaped him into one of the most recognizable and accomplished elected officials in America. Filled with intimate family history and written with candor and remarkable personal insight, here is a deeply resilient California story of identity, belonging, and the defining moments that inspired a life in politics.

Studies in Australian Law, Politics and History

This book lays out a roadmap for establishing common law recognition of Aboriginal customary law in Australia. Currently, Aboriginal customary law is recognised in limited circumstances through native title, which applies only to rights and interests over traditional lands or waters. This book argues that, if a carefully constructed claim is accepted by an Australian Court, Aboriginal customary law could potentially be recognised across a wide range of legal areas, including criminal law, family law, succession, environmental law, and criminal procedure. Importantly, this would also afford legal recognition to organic Indigenous governance structures. It also proposes a roadmap for establishing a hybrid equitable-constitutional fiduciary obligation that the Crown would owe Indigenous Australians. This could provide valuable protections to Indigenous rights and societies from impositions made by legislatures and executives purporting to exercise powers under the
Australian Constitution. Distinctive in its approach, this volume is among the first post-2020 works to explore a common law pathway for recognising and furthering the rights of Indigenous societies, governance systems, and legal frameworks, at a time when most scholarship has focused on express constitutional recognition or recognition via treaties and agreements (notably in Victoria).
The book builds on the landmark High Court decision in
Love v Commonwealth
(2020), where the Court recognised that Aboriginal Australians, owing to their enduring connection to country, could not be considered ‘aliens’ under the
Constitution
. While
Love
initially addressed alienage and constitutional protections, this work argues that its reasoning opens the door to broader common law recognition of Indigenous Australians’ rights, laws, and governance structures, beyond the scope of native title.
Through careful legal analysis and a proposed claims framework, this book contributes to an emergent body of scholarship exploring the legal consequences of recognizing Aboriginal Australians’ enduring connection to country, offering a path toward meaningful expansion of Indigenous legal recognition in Australia, and bringing Australian law closer to the more progressive Indigenous rights doctrines of common law North America.

Law, Love and Australia’s Unfinished Retreat from Terra Nullius

This open access book argues that the scarcity created by the under-production of vaccines during the Covid-19 years was an entirely predictable, even legitimate consequence of how the international patent system works. Far from being a technical sub-discipline of intellectual property law that simply protects inventions, the international patent system is prismatic of the ways in which we fail to adapt to the challenges of our times: patent rights are intended to incentivise innovation for societal benefit, but in fact facilitate predictable injustice. The patent system ignores the care-constituted nature of our lives, prioritising limiting notions of fairness at the cost of structural harms. The Social Life of Intellectual Property proposes an ethic of just care to temper justice in the global governance of technology. It explores intellectual property as recurring social processes and explains why individual agency and shared responsibility are implicated. On an ecologically imperilled planet, and in a time between pandemics, we must reckon with what we are socialised to believe is legally possible. The ebook editions of this book are available open access under a CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 licence on bloomsburycollections.com.
