Borders and boundaries are being radically challenged by globalization. While states as legal and political entities are more or less fixed, emotional belonging to a political community has become more important. The construction of that belonging consists of several elements; memorialization and discursive practices are among the most relevant. This book pays homage to a rock band that has most influenced alternative culture, the Grateful Dead. It critically discussing the evolution of the libertarian spirit in the USA, which was born and developed in the 1960s and merged in the last three decades into a libertarian ideology, based on individual freedom, antistatalism and the primacy of the spirit of the self-made man. Examining how this transition was functional, on the one hand, to high-tech digital innovation and, on the other, to the spirit of new platform capitalism. Andrea Fumagalli suggests that the process of capturing the libertarian spirit for capitalist purposes, which represents one of the clearest examples of "life subsumption", the acknowledgment that the life of individuals at the very moment that it triggers processes of social cooperation is a potential source of subversive behaviour, and how this can turn into a powerful tool for today's capitalist valorisation.

The Sociology of Music

Patipolitics looks at what it means to enjoy the body under technocapitalism, arguing that we need a new paradigm to talk about sexual enjoyment and suffering. It is not just biological life (biopolitics), nor even political death (necropolitics) that has power, but also regimes of enjoyment. In simple terms the paradoxical, ambivalent and traumatic realm of the sexual: a deadly enjoyment that demands satisfaction yet cannot be sated. This is Patipolitics, from the Latin patior- to suffer, which for psychoanalysis is also to enjoy.

The body is governed by a dizzying array of institutions: the family, social media, religion and the culture industries. These sites provide contexts for enjoying the body such as: self-image, object choice, identification, erogenous zones, taboos, codes of sexual morality, inhibitions, violence, and bodily abjection. But it is the ways in which these modalities are harnessed by apparatuses of power which makes them patipolitical.

After highlighting the destructive and oppressive elements of patipolitics, the book elucidates the positive and generative dimensions to the patipolitical. The female body and its place in the masculine imaginary obscures a genuine enigma about the sexual body and power. Ultimately if patipolitics is to be affirmative as opposed to destructive we must ask what alternative future it can help us to imagine?

A bold challenge to rethink the humanities as intimately connected to the superhuman and to "decolonize reality itself." What would happen if we reimagined the humanities as the superhumanities? If we acknowledged and celebrated the undercurrent of the fantastic within our humanistic disciplines, entirely new cultural worlds and meanings would become possible. That is Jeffrey J. Kripal's vision for the future-to revive the suppressed dimension of the superhumanities, which consists of rare but real altered states of knowledge that have driven the creative processes of many of our most revered authors, artists, and activists. In Kripal's telling, the history of the humanities is filled with precognitive dreams, evolving superhumans, and doubled selves. The basic idea of the superhuman, for Kripal, is at the core of who and what the human species has tried to become over millennia and around the planet. &nbsp; After diagnosing the basic malaise of the humanities-that the truth must be depressing-Kripal shows how it can all be done differently. He argues that we have to decolonize reality itself if we are going to take human diversity seriously. Toward this pluralist end, he engages psychoanalytic, Black critical, feminist, postcolonial, queer, and ecocritical theory. He works through objections to the superhumanities while also recognizing the new realities represented by the contemporary sciences. In doing so, he tries to move beyond naysaying practices of critique toward a future that can embrace those critiques within a more holistic view-a view that recognizes the human being as both a social-political animal as well as an evolved cosmic species that understands and experiences itself as something super.

Through a blend of materialism and constructivism, this study not only recasts the dynamics of India-PakistanâEUR(TM)s nuclear politics from a more non-traditional angle, but also contains policy implications by drawing attention to how ideological underpinnings of policy makers - who interpret and construct their world of strategic thinking - impact inter-state nuclear security affairs.
