Zunächst werden die zentralen Begriffe und theoretischen Grundlagen geklärt. Inflation wird als anhaltender Anstieg des allgemeinen Preisniveaus verstanden, während die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung mithilfe mehrerer makroökonomischer Indikatoren betrachtet wird, darunter insbesondere das reale Bruttoinlandsprodukt, Investitionen, Produktivität, Beschäftigung, Haushaltseinkommen, Bildung, Gesundheit und Wohlfahrt. Aufbauend darauf erläutert die Arbeit zentrale Wirkungsmechanismen hoher Inflation, vor allem Kaufkraftverluste, Allokationsverzerrungen, Umverteilungseffekte, mögliche Veränderungen der Staatsverschuldung sowie Effekte auf Wachstum und Beschäftigung. 

Im empirischen Teil zeigt die Arbeit, dass sowohl Argentinien als auch die Türkei seit 2021 beziehungsweise 2022 von sehr hoher Inflation bis hin zur Hyperinflation betroffen sind. Für Argentinien wird eine besonders drastische Entwicklung beschrieben: stark steigende Inflationsraten, rückläufiges reales BIP ab 2023, sinkende Investitionsquote, nachlassende Produktivität und deutliche Realeinkommensverluste der privaten Haushalte. Daraus leitet die Arbeit erhebliche negative Folgen für Kaufkraft, Lebensstandard und Wohlfahrt ab. Zwar werden einzelne positive Entwicklungen wie leicht steigende Forschungs- und Gesundheitsausgaben sowie eine höhere Beschäftigungsquote erwähnt, insgesamt überwiegen jedoch die negativen Effekte deutlich. 

Für die Türkei fällt das Bild differenzierter aus. Auch hier werden Kaufkraftverluste, sinkende reale Haushaltseinkommen, Umverteilungseffekte und Belastungen der Wohlfahrt herausgearbeitet. Gleichzeitig zeigt die türkische Wirtschaft im Vergleich zu Argentinien mehr Stabilität: Das BIP wächst weiter, wenn auch mit abnehmender Dynamik, die Investitionsquote steigt, die Staatsverschuldung relativ zum BIP sinkt und die Beschäftigungsquote entwickelt sich positiv. Die Arbeit führt dies unter anderem auf niedrige Zinsen und eine inflationsbedingte finanzielle Entlastung des Staates zurück. Im abschließenden Vergleich kommt die Hausarbeit zu dem Ergebnis, dass hohe Inflation in beiden Ländern überwiegend negative wirtschaftliche Folgen hat, diese in Argentinien jedoch wesentlich gravierender ausfallen als in der Türkei.
