Outer space is a is an international domain upon which humankind increasingly relies not merely for its economic development and technological progress, but for its long-term survival. However, the accessibility of outer space is challenged by the exponentially growing space debris population, rendering the usable near-Earth orbital resource scarce overtime.
Unlike other environmental domains with a significant instrumental value for us humans, outer space cannot recover naturally from human-induced alterations. Its sustainable, long-term usability is thus put to a challenge.

Chapter 1: Outlining the environmentally relevant risks in outer space

Chapter 2: Environmental aspects in space law

Chapter 3: Applicability of general environmental law to space activities

Chapter 4: Sovereignty, freedoms and interests: the need for a new perception of the rights of States in outer space

Chapter 5: Economic instruments towards incentivisation of space actors

International Law in Asia

This book, by integrating legal, political, and strategic perspectives, aims to contribute both theoretically and practically to a clearer understanding of Vietnam and the US's stances in this complex region. Ultimately, it seeks to provide insights into how bilateral cooperation, legal interpretation, and strategic alignment can strengthen the international maritime order and promote stability and peace in the South China Sea. Two dimensions of this influence are explored in this study: Vietnam's and American participations in the United Nations Conferences on the Law of the Sea; and the handling of concrete legal questions related to baselines, innocent passage, freedom of navigation, marine scientific research, Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing, security and defense cooperation, marine environmental protection, the outer limits of the continental shelf, and high seas issues in the context of the South China Sea.

Developing Brazil Through Space

Space Fostering Brazilian Society

This book evaluates how the legal, institutional and policy frameworks for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) in the United States, South Africa and Kenya have addressed the current needs and challenges involved in these systems’ operation and integration into regulatory frameworks for civil aviation. It shows how the three states have developed their own constitutional frameworks, legislation, regulations, policies and strategic plans to address the challenges that emanate from integrating UAS into the civil aviation airspace.

The book details the three countries’ integration experiences, investigating the extent to which existing international regulatory frameworks address the various concerns, and identifies the common thread that runs through UAS regulation, as well as each country’s unique issues and path to integration. Recognizing that the approach for integration of UAS into civil aviation needs to be gradual and pragmatic, the book recommends scaling up institutional capacity, coordination and funding, and intensifying regional efforts to redefine and support UAS integration.
