Excessive use of force by police officers in Germany has only been investigated to a limited extent to date. This book provides comprehensive scientific findings on relevant situations and how they are dealt with under criminal law. Based on a survey of victims with over 3,300 participants and more than 60 qualitative interviews, the cases are presented as complex interactions in which the police's special power of definition becomes apparent.

&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;Explores the failures of family court and calls for immediate and permanent change&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;At the turn of the twentieth century, American social reformers created the first juvenile court. They imagined a therapeutic court where informality, specially trained public servants, and a kindly, all-knowing judge would assist children and families. But the dream of a benevolent means of judicial problem-solving was never realized. A century later, children and families continue to be failed by this deeply flawed court.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;i&gt;The End of Family Court &lt;/i&gt;rejects the foundational premise that family court can do good when intervening in family life and challenges its endless reinvention to survive. Jane M. Spinak illustrates how the procedures and policies of modern family court are deeply entwined in a heritage of racism, a profound disdain for poverty, and assimilationist norms intent on fixing children and families who are different. And the court’s interventionist goals remain steeped in an approach to equity and well-being that demands individual rather than collective responsibility for the security and welfare of families.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Spinak proposes concrete steps toward abolishing the court: shifting most family supports out of the court’s sphere, vastly reducing the types and number of matters that need court intervention, and ensuring that any case that requires legal adjudication has the due process protections of a court of law. She calls for strategies that center trusting and respecting the abilities of communities to create and sustain meaningful solutions for families. An abolitionist approach, in turn, celebrates a radical imagination that embraces and supports all families in a fair and equal economic and political democracy.&lt;/p&gt;

        &lt;p&gt;Fluchtbewegungen haben das Phänomen der Staatenlosigkeit erheblich ausgeweitet. Dies hat weitreichende Auswirkungen auf die Rechtsstellung des Einzelnen, die von Einreise und Aufenthaltsstatus bis hin zur Teilhabe an politischen Prozessen reichen. Zugleich berührt ein Recht auf Staatsangehörigkeit den Kern souveräner Selbstbestimmung der Staaten im Hinblick auf die Definition des eigenen Staatsverbandes. Vor diesem Hintergrund entwickelt das Werk, in wieweit sich ein völkerrechtlicher Anspruch auf Erwerb einer Staatsangehörigkeit nach Vertrags- oder sogar Gewohnheitsrecht begründen lässt und setzt sich hierzu eingehend mit der Spruchpraxis internationaler Menschenrechtsinstanzen, vor allem regionaler Menschenrechtsgerichtshöfe auseinander.&lt;/p&gt;

Still, this paper examines the variety of factors which may lead to the assumption that indentured labor was an unfree form of labor in the historical context of indenture. This chapter on the history of indentured labor ought to give a historical overview of the indentured labor system in colonial India as well as its political rudiments and to help gain a better understanding about the historical background the legal system regarding indenture was built upon.

&lt;p&gt;This book presents a new vision and strategy for a spiritual antiracism that values diversity, equity, and inclusion. Employing the practice of seeing, choosing, and acting as a framework, it examines the role of Christian spirituality, which includes religious values, interpretations of scripture and tradition, and general concerns with the human soul. Christian spirituality was integral to developing and justifying an ideology of “white” supremacy and Christian spirituality has the &amp;nbsp;potential for resisting and rejecting this same racism. Responding to the very idea of “race,” born from the ideology of racism and “white” supremacy, the author shows how to envision and implement a spiritual approach that respects both human dignity and individual distinctiveness. Understanding the fundamental value of human dignity as deeply rooted in the Christian tradition serves as one antidote for other readings of the tradition that can be used to justify oppression and segregation.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;This book addresses those interested in leadership in challenging times buffeted by issues of racism, privilege, and power in our communities, workplaces, and lives.
