        &lt;p&gt;Arbeitsrechtliche Beziehungen werden sehr stark von der Europäischen Integration geprägt. Das Buch macht die Lesenden der Rechts-, Wirtschafts- und Politikwissenschaften an Universitäten und Fachhochschulen mit dem Europäischen Arbeitsrecht vertraut und geht dabei auch auf das Europäische Arbeitsrecht in rechtsvergleichender und völkerrechtlicher Perspektive ein. Für die 4. Auflage nach mehr als 15 Jahren wurde das Standardwerk zum Europäischen Arbeitsrecht umfassend überarbeitet und neu strukturiert. Der erste Teil enthält nun u.a. eine umfassende Einführung in völkerrechtliche und rechtsvergleichende Perspektiven auf das Europäische Arbeitsrecht, gefolgt von einem EU-rechtlichen Grundlagenteil. Teil 2 ist weiterhin der exemplarischen Darstellung wesentlicher Elemente der EU-Rechtssetzung im Arbeitsrecht gewidmet, wobei zu den bisher erfassten Themen die jüngsten regulatorischen Reflektionen der „Gigökonomie“ hinzukommen. &lt;/p&gt;

Am 17. Februar 2019 wäre Walter Grab 100 Jahre alt geworden. Sein persönlicher Werdegang spiegelt die Herausforderungen und politischen Verwerfungen des 20. Jahrhunderts wider. Als Historiker hat er wichtige Beiträge zur Demokratiegeschichte und ihrer Verbindung zur Emanzipation der Juden geleistet. Insbesondere die Französische Revolution und ihre Wirkungsgeschichte haben ihn lebenslang beschäftigt. Dabei stand auch die Frage im Mittelpunkt, weshalb die Ideen der Revolution in Deutschland nicht den gleichen Erfolg hatten wie etwa in Frankreich oder England. Diese Forschungen verknüpfte er mit einem anderen großen Thema, zu dem er ebenfalls bedeutende Beiträge geleistet hat: Dem Verhältnis zwischen der Demokratiebewegung und der Emanzipation der Juden in Europa. Im Rahmen eines interdisziplinären Kolloquiums am Europa Kolleg und dem Institut für die Geschichte der deutschen Juden in Hamburg wurden seine Arbeiten gewürdigt und mit der Frage nach der Zukunft der Demokratie in Europa verknüpft werden. &lt;p&gt;Populism has taken root almost everywhere in the West. It is crucial to understand how it has come about, where its antagonistic worldview, its nativism, its illiberalism and its anti-pluralism will take us, and how we should seek to fend off this threat to liberal democracy. In particular, what could liberal answers look like?&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;This book is a collection of essays written by young and senior scholars in various fields from philosophy to economics. Part I explores populism’s nature and causes, shedding light on the lure of sovereignty, the perceived representation gap and the process of radicalization, and human psychology. Part II is dedicated to observations inside the political arena, pitting liberalism and populism in a historical perspective, analyzing the risk of democratic backsliding, and asking how liberals should navigate the political need to make compromises. In Part III, the focus turns to liberal responses such as rules-based public deliberation, a liberal ethics attending to civic virtues, improved representation through the blockchain, and polycentric migration policies. Part IV, finally, houses critical engagements with influential relevant authors such as Foucault, Laclau, Berlin, and Harrington.&lt;/p&gt;

Excessive use of force by police officers in Germany has only been investigated to a limited extent to date. This book provides comprehensive scientific findings on relevant situations and how they are dealt with under criminal law. Based on a survey of victims with over 3,300 participants and more than 60 qualitative interviews, the cases are presented as complex interactions in which the police's special power of definition becomes apparent.

        &lt;p&gt;Shino Ibold untersucht den Mehrwert einer gleichheitsrechtlichen gegenüber der freiheitsrechtlich geprägten Perspektive, die Gerichte ihren Entscheidungen – unter anderem in Bezug auf Verbote des muslimischen Schleiers – vorrangig zugrunde legen. Diese Verschattung des Gleichheitsrechts durch die Freiheitsrechte bewirkt blinde Flecken in der rechtlichen Analyse. Indem Shino Ibold das „Schattendasein“ des Gleichheitsrechts ausleuchtet und die Notwendigkeit einer eigenständigen Würdigung der gleichheitsrelevanten Aspekte eines Falles verdeutlicht, liefert sie neue Erkenntnisse sowohl für zukünftige Gerichtsentscheidungen zu Verboten des muslimischen Schleiers als auch für die Fortentwicklung der bisher etablierten Gleichheitsrechtsdogmatik.&lt;/p&gt;

Still, this paper examines the variety of factors which may lead to the assumption that indentured labor was an unfree form of labor in the historical context of indenture. This chapter on the history of indentured labor ought to give a historical overview of the indentured labor system in colonial India as well as its political rudiments and to help gain a better understanding about the historical background the legal system regarding indenture was built upon.

While South Africa has moved beyond apartheid, it has not moved beyond racial polarisation. Virtually every problem we face in this country is influenced by our legacy of systemic racism and the psychological trauma it has caused to people of all races.
Racial healing is not a new, woke, talk shop. It is also not a 'how-to guide' for do-gooders. On the contrary, racial healing requires diverse people of all ages to embrace the unique and challenging complexity of racial diversity and to forge a human bridge between multiple opposing truths that can peacefully coexist.
