Gesundheit, Kommunikation und Gesellschaft

Die Public Health Humanities verstehen Gesundheit und Krankheit als kulturell und sozial geprägte Phänomene. Sie ergänzen die empirisch orientierte Multidisziplin Public Health um geisteswissenschaftliche und künstlerische Perspektiven. Dabei fragen sie nach der Bedeutung des Künstlerischen für die Gesundheit, interessieren sich für moralische, soziale und kulturelle Dimensionen von Gesundheit und Krankheit in Kunst bzw. Medien und bieten theoretische Zugänge für gesundheitliche Analysen an. Bezugsdisziplinen sind u.a. Kunst-, Kultur- und Medienwissenschaften, Philosophie und Geschichte. Die Beiträger*innen leuchten das Spektrum unterschiedlicher Perspektiven und Zugänge der Public Health Humanities erstmals auf Deutsch aus.

What does it mean to know something? What does it mean to prove something? And how are the two connected? Cara-Julie Kather explores Mathematics&nbsp;as a way of thinking and being in the world. She investigates Mathematics&nbsp;in its conceptual relation to Western understandings of the Rational and the Human, and proposes possibilities of subverting Western Mathematics&nbsp;and of forming different mathematical practices. To engage in decolonial-feminist re-writings of the Rational and the Human requires to re-write mathematical practice too. This study seeks to inspire such practices of re-writing thinking and being - in the realm of the mathematical and beyond.

This book takes an original and impactful approach to intercultural communication by examining lived experiences across diverse global workplaces. This Element introduces the conceptualization of language weaponization, examining how dominant groups use language to control, marginalize, and harm minoritized communities. It proposes a three-phase framework- (1) stigmatization and othering, (2) dehumanization, and (3) harm-to explain how linguistic practices evolve from prejudice to violence, shaping both social structures and individual identities. Through analysis of the dynamics between dominant and minoritized groups and case studies focused on LGBTQ+ communities, the Element reveals the historical and ongoing consequences of weaponized language.
