Dodging and Confronting Stigma examines the lives of people who were stigmatized or marginalized in Japan’s late classical and medieval ages. Often characterized as beggars, they in fact pursued a wide range of occupations and lifestyles, even while haunted by discrimination and exploitation. They developed skills, acquired property rights, and even manipulated the elite who controlled them, thereby achieving some degree of self-determination. Outcasts are frequently mentioned in the records of Buddhist temples, and the variety of references provides evidence for the many ways they participated in medieval religious life: as cleansers of pollution, as cremation and burial workers, as objects of salvific efforts—and as guards and enforcers in an increasingly militarized religious establishment. Complex and stratified, outcast society as a whole included people who demanded their rights through litigation and arms, just as did others in Japan’s medieval world. The emergence, especially in the late medieval age, of people who occupied marginal positions in society—neither wholly stigmatized nor wholly free of stigma—complicates the picture. Such marginal people included bearers of Japanese culture such as garden designers, theatrical performers, and shamans, making it impossible to simply write them off as social pariahs or victims of discrimination. Janet Goodwin demonstrates that outcast and marginal society was a complex one whose members fulfilled diverse functions necessary to medieval society, formed complex relationships with institutions and individuals of power, and made enduring contributions to medieval culture. Most studies of late classical and medieval Japan focus on elites: monarchs and courtiers, powerful warriors, and high-ranking religious figures. Indeed, these are the people who appear prominently in sources of the time. However, tantalizing pictures of outcast and marginal people appear in an array of sources such as aristocrats’ diaries, legal documents, tales, scrolls, and screen paintings, among others. In emphasizing people at the bottom of society and on its margins, and the ways that they dodged and confronted stigma, this book broadens the picture of Japanese society of the time.

The issue of sustainable development demands rigor in the concepts of choice, organization, and implementation. Faced with appalling injustice, in a society abandoned to ruin, like a garbage dump through which no sanitation project ever passes or re-passes, the writer must take up his pen and clearly depict the ills that are merely flung into words, in vain. This is what
the author does, embarking on this epistolary writing where, in a fiction close to reality, he communicates, as good citizens, the iconic Duala Manga Bell, several Cameroonian citizens, and the apologist for success who acts as intermediary. This work is not merely a story or a simple narrative; it is an imaginative work very close to reality, which transcends the limits of time, to connect fellow Cameroonians of one era with those of another.

Resilient Voices: A Compilation of Inspiring Quotes, Best Practices, and Community Voices by Khariyyah Shabazz is a collection of reflections, interviews, and insights that highlight the experiences and perspectives of community leaders working to create meaningful change. Blending excerpts from Shabazz's speeches with in-depth conversations, the book offers both inspiration and practical guidance rooted in real-life work and lived experience.

Through interviews with leaders such as Bee Coleman, Ttori Johnson, Keta Price, and Dr. Tanisha Cannon, the book explores themes of legacy, leadership, and the ongoing commitment required to serve communities. Each story provides a closer look at the personal journeys that have shaped these individuals' work, along with strategies and lessons that can be applied to community-building efforts.

This second edition of Resilient Voices includes new content and updated photography not found in the original 2024 release. It features a newly curated selection of community voices, expanded best practices for equity-driven leadership, and exclusive photos that bring the stories of these leaders to life.

In addition to these narratives, the book incorporates key practices and shared wisdom that support collective growth and engagement. A bonus chapter expands on this by offering practical tips on organizing a book tour and approaching marketing with intention, providing readers with tools to share their own work, amplify their voice, and reach broader audiences.

Grounded in the belief that everyone has the ability to contribute, Resilient Voices invites readers to reflect, learn, and take action. It demonstrates how individual stories and shared knowledge can come together to inspire connection, build leadership, and support lasting community impact.

GATTA PATATA

The very title speaks of the contents of the book. It quoted the Codes [ Verses] of "Manu-Smriti" - translated in English and presented subject-wise, with small comments- here and there. This book also tried to find out from the Rig-Veda, the sequence of development of the State Policy to physically kill the people of war-defeated IVC Indians, alienated their land, cities, killed most people like- what Spanish people did to eliminate the people of Aztec Civilisation, and colonised Latin America, but in India, after preliminary physical killing and taken over the defeated people's land and cattle -prudently kept alive those Have-nothing common pre-Aryan citizens to work for the owner-settlers- to work for them as slaves, with Zero Human Rights. From the Vedic word " Dasa" the more inclusive word " Shudra" was cointed by Manu-Smriti, and followed by Indian Hindus till date.

Since independence in 1980, the lives of Zimbabweans have been inextricably linked to the nation's turbulent political landscape. Central to this narrative is the post-2000 rivalry between the ruling ZANU-PF - led by Robert Mugabe and later Emmerson Mnangagwa - and the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC). Despite the MDC's eventual fragmentation, Morgan Tsvangirai and his successor, Nelson Chamisa, remained the defining figures of the opposition. While ZANU-PF's electoral victories have frequently been marred by documented allegations of fraud and violence, this volume offers a nuanced, holistic analysis. It argues that the opposition itself shoulders significant responsibility for its failures, providing a critical counter-perspective on 21st-century Zimbabwean power struggles. This book is an essential resource for scholars and students of history, political science, and human rights.

Transforming Environmental Politics and Policy

Debating Planetary Politics offers a range of perspectives that together provide a comprehensive overview of the issues and ideas central to the emerging field of planetary politics, giving due attention to its history, while primarily and uniquely advancing the contemporary state of the debate. An eco-centric planetary politics first became a prospective new turn for the world politics of humanity when scientists around 1970 discovered that the Earth system, including its biospheric ecology, exists in a biogeochemical composition which enables and furthers the conditions for life on this planet, and that our species is causing an Earth system crisis that is jeopardizing planetary habitability. This book examines how to best navigate through this Earth system crisis and expands on what planetary politics is about by including multispecies and critical perspectives that were not prominent before. It is argued that the current global governance architecture is inadequate for ending the crisis. We will need a new planetary politics. But what do we have in mind when we talk about planetary politics? This complex inter- and transdisciplinary debate does not only require a sound grasp of the relevant Earth system science, but also of the cultural, social, economic, and political worldviews and practices that have brought about the present malaise, and of how old and new alternatives might enable constructive steps forward. This book therefore has a diverse group of expert contributors. They offer a variety of complementary and competing theoretical perspectives from Political Science, Political Theory, Political Economy, International Relations, Philosophy, and Sociology, getting to the core of what thinking in terms of planetary politics signifies in different registers.Establishing planetary politics as its own distinct field, Debating Planetary Politics is important reading for students and scholars from a range of disciplines, including Global Environmental Politics, Political Science, International Relations (IR), Political Theory/Philosophy, Development Studies, Political Economy, Earth System Science, Environmental Humanities, Global/Intellectual History, Political Geography, Political Sociology, and Science and Technology Studies (STS).
