The WING ZONE Story

Academic Paper from the year 2014 in the subject Business economics - Investment and Finance, grade: 1,7, Technical University of Munich, language: English, abstract: The focus of this paper lies on answering the questions, what factors should be considered to successfully exist a venture with regard to exit timing and routing and how these strategic choices are interrelated.

The divestment process plays a critical role in the Venture Capital (VC) business model. Typically, a VC invested venture is not able to pay dividends prior to its exit as the business has not fully matured yet. Therefore, a Venture Capital Firm (VCF) generates virtually all of its income by realizing capital gains at the time of the venture¿s exit. This indicates that a VCF heavily depends on a successful divestment transaction - in most cases, a poor exit execution leads to an inferior return on investment which in turn can ruin the VCF¿s overall performance. A VCF therefore plans its exits carefully and evaluates its strategic choices. In this context, the two most important exit decision variables considered by a VCF are the choice of exit route and the choice of exit timing. By choosing the right exit route and pursuing good exit timing, a VCF can significantly increase its proceeds for a given venture. The primary focus of this paper lies on answering these aforementioned questions by drawing together the empirical research on these two dominant strategic exit choices.

The Exit Decision in Venture Capital. How to Choose Exit Timing and Exit Route

The Joe Slota Experience Series

From the Streets to Global Seats is a powerful 2-in-1 book that blends memoir, leadership guidance, and the irreplaceable lessons of guardianship. In this hybrid work, Joseph A. Slota, CMA, CLM -retired Deloitte Consulting partner, global executive, and lifelong mentor-shares a profoundly personal journey shaped by discipline, compassion, family legacy, and the quiet strength of those he calls the "Special Forces of Leadership."

The first section is a raw, authentic memoir tracing Slota's rise from the toughest streets of Jersey City to global leadership. Grounded in the teachings of his father, a WWII Master Sergeant whose silent guardianship shaped Joe's values, resilience, and life balance, a narrative that blends family legacy, adversity, humor, and transformative life lessons.

The second section delivers real-world leadership blueprints drawn from decades of corporate experience, global travel, crisis management, and executive mentoring. These frameworks offer practical guidance for purpose-driven professionals, emerging leaders, and anyone seeking clarity in a noisy world. From soft skills and communication to ethics, balance, and conflict navigation, these blueprints are designed for immediate real-life application.

More than a memoir and more than a leadership book, From the Streets to Global Seats is a return-to-resource; a structured guide for reflection, growth, and daily practice. With clarity and conviction, Slota reminds readers that legacy is built while you climb, not deferred until retirement, when it's too late to climb back down.

Perfect for readers of The Last Lecture, Educated, The Power of One More, Leaders Eat Last, and The Leader Who Had No Title, this book honors the guardians who shape us and provides an actionable framework for purpose, legacy, and leadership in modern life.

For anyone seeking wisdom at the intersection of life, leadership, memoir, and meaning, From the Streets to Global Seats delivers more than inspiration-it provides a blueprint for becoming the person your legacy deserves.

No matter the size or type of business, one does not become an industry leader by luck. The Baker Company is no exception.

From its Sanford, Maine, roots as a small family business in 1949, The Baker Company's focus was the emerging field of contamination. The company's founder, Arthur Baker, was an engineer; in 1957 he hired Jack Eagleson as a management consultant and to oversee operations. Nine years later, Jack bought the business-a year after his son Dennis, the author of this book, joined the firm.

With a commitment to integrity, unwavering ethics, and hard work, Jack built an exceptional team while expanding the product line and growing the company into an international organization. This story provides a window into how it happened-from equipment, technology, and learning from customers, to developing a reliable brand promise and a strong management group, and creating a multifaceted customer base. Part memoir, part window into the field, and part instruction manual for career success (no matter the field), each chapter offers a winnable philosophy for today's business world.

The Baker Company is now operated by the third generation of Eaglesons, who carry out Jack's legacy by continuing to Fight The Good Fight.

Routledge Studies in Employment Relations

This is the era of flexibility. Under constant pressure to be adaptable, organizations increasingly adopt employment practices such as zero-hours contracts, the casualization of the workforce and the use of temporary and agency labour. These flexible practices are central to debates about the changing nature of job quality and its causes, trends and consequences.Arguing that job quality is central to understanding contemporary work, this book explores the internal and external pressures for flexibility in workplaces, professions and sectors and how this pressure shapes workers' experiences of job quality. By studying job quality dynamics via case studies from organizations and occupations in the UK, Poland, Belgium and Sweden, the volumes illustrates the diversity of practices and experiences, as well as market pressures and institutional arrangements which effect working lives. Finally, the editors propose a policy debate on the new concept "flexiquality" - a combination of flexibility and job quality that can be beneficial for both management and workers.

As employment practices such as zero-hours contracts, casualization of the workforce and the use of temporary and agency labour become prevalent, this book explores the pressures for workforce flexibility and how this pressure shapes workers’ experiences of job quality.

'Profoundly moving' ANDREW MARR 'Deeply personal' SUNDAY TIMES 'A shout from history that we cannot ignore' THE IRISH TIMES Sorting through papers and photographs after his mother's death, Michael Moritz uncovers the history of close family members murdered by the Nazis. Exploring their journey takes him into a past of tragedy, grief and the dark shadows cast on Jewish life by the Holocaust. Leaving Germany as child refugees, Moritz's parents escape to London before settling in Cardiff, Wales, after the war. But the idea of being a stranger or outsider - Ausländer - haunts the family; running through Moritz's childhood and resurfacing in his adopted home of California, where he has become one of Silicon Valley's most celebrated investors. 'As the shadows of Trump lengthened, the refrain I had heard from my parents rang ever more loudly ... "If it did happen somewhere, it can happen here".' Disturbingly relevant to contemporary America, Ausländer shows what can happen to families when ordinary people hand licence to despots.

Entrepreneurship Skills for New Ventures

About the Author

Edward W. Page began his career in surety bond underwriting and commercial banking in New Jersey and Missouri before moving into private equity in New York. From his home in St. Louis, he commuted to Manhattan to negotiate, acquire, finance, manage, and divest companies across North America and Europe.

Just before his son's birth, Ed returned to St. Louis and founded Williams Capital Partners, Inc., focusing on acquiring and advising privately held businesses primarily throughout the Midwest. Across four decades, he has led numerous successful turnarounds, preserving companies and saving jobs.

Beyond the boardroom, Ed enjoys golf, skiing, and walks with his dog, Gertie. He values time with friends, frequent travel, and trips with his wife, Lynn, to London to visit their son, William, and daughter-in-law, Tara.

About the Book

Knightmare Capital is the raw, unfiltered, high-stakes account of Edward W. Page's leap from the steady lanes of surety bond underwriting and commercial banking into the unpredictable world of private equity. Driven by personal upheaval, Ed took a gamble on a scrappy New York firm and found himself on a rocket ride through high-pressure deals, nonstop travel, and boardroom showdowns that most people only witness on screen.

Mentored by some of the sharpest minds in accounting, finance, law, engineering, and operations, Ed transformed into a battle-tested "deal guy," able to juggle multiple acquisitions, turnarounds, and exits simultaneously across North America and Europe. Each win added to the firm's meteoric rise-until cracks at the top began to spread.

What started with red-eye flights and late-night negotiations slid into chaos, fueled by mismanagement and the increasingly erratic behavior of the firm's mysterious Chairman. Fortunes were lost. Careers collapsed. Lives were upended. As the house of cards shook, Ed stood at the eye of the storm, fighting to salvage what he could, protect the people and companies that still mattered.

Knightmare Capital is more than a business memoir-it's a cautionary tale, survival guide, and front-row seat to how power, ego, and neglect can turn a dream into a nightmare.
