Political Epistemology

This book is the first English translation of a German classic in the social-historical historiography of science in the early modern period. It presents a reconstruction of the ‘Scientific Revolution’ based on a critical historical materialism. It argues that the dominant ideas, images, and philosophies of nature of that time were conditioned by humans’ practical and technological relationship with nature, and that they changed in accordance with the historical development of early capitalist society. Against economic reductionism, Lefèvre stresses the interdependence of material conditions of life and theories of nature on the basis of a critical study of sources and historical contexts. The book makes available an important study with related texts and contributes to the current debates on the intersection of historical and political epistemology.The series editors provide a conceptual and contextual introduction, including information on the political-epistemological background of the book first published in 1978.

In Zeiten einer vermeintlich wachsenden Kriminalität junger Menschen rücken Altersgrenzen und Erziehungsverhältnisse in den Fokus - so soll z.B. die richtige Erziehung vorbeugend wirken. Die Beiträger*innen des Bandes betrachten die Konzepte und Ansprüche gegenüber jugendlicher Devianz und Delinquenz in der sogenannten 'Sattelzeit' (1750-1850). Dabei gehen sie auf Quellen ein, die in unterschiedlichen Zusammenhängen zeigen, wie 'verwahrloste' Jugendliche zum Problem erhoben wurden, dem u.a. mit neuartigen Anstalten begegnet werden sollte.

Long self-proclaimed as the "Knowledge Bank", the World Bank is as active it is criticized for being in its endeavors to promote US interests in the the age of globalization, neoliberalism and financialization across its scholarship, ideology and policy in practice. Its analytical framing draws upon economics imperialism in general, and its evolution through three phases. Corresponding phases of new, newer and newest development economics are identified, with the World Bank taking a leading role in each, with implications for the expanding scope of development economics and its contestations with development studies.&nbsp;
