Thema dieses Lehrbuches sind Zustandekommen und Auswirkung wirtschaftspolitischer Entscheidungen. Der erste Teil stellt die allokationstheoretischen Grundlagen dar, die bei der Diskussion von Wirtschaftspolitik nützlich sind. Zunächst werden mögliche Zielsetzungen staatlicher Wirtschaftspolitik diskutiert. Anschließend wird hinterfragt, wo die Grenzen staatlichen Wirtschaftens gezogen werden sollten. Der zweite Teil beschäftigt sich mit der Frage, warum in einer Demokratie bestimmte wirtschaftspolitische Entscheidungen getroffen werden. Es werden grundlegende formale Modelle demokratischer Entscheidungsprozesse dargestellt. Ein besonderes Gewicht dieser politisch-ökonomischen Analyse liegt auf Theorien, die das Zustandekommen oder das Scheitern von Reformen untersuchen. Außerdem werden theoretische Modelle der politischen Einflussnahme von Interessengruppen vorgestellt. Im dritten Teil geht es um Anwendungen der polit-ökonomischen Grundmodelle auf wichtige wirtschaftspolitische Entscheidungen. Das Buch ist als eigenständige Grundlage für eine Einführung in die Wirtschaftspolitik in einem anspruchsvollen Bachelorstudium gedacht. Patrick Bond is a political economist and professor at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. He spent more than two decades teaching at the Wits University School of Governance in Johannesburg and the University of KwaZulu-Natal Centre for Civil Society in Durban. During the late 1980s he pursued doctoral studies in economic geography at Johns Hopkins University, while learning politics in the anti-apartheid, labour, student and community movements. In 1994 and 1996, he worked in the Reconstruction and Development Ministry in President Nelson Mandela’s office, drafting the democratic government’s first White Paper and a dozen other major policy documents. He appears more than 100 times a year on South African and international broadcast media, and usually gives more than 50 guest lectures annually.

Consequently, market participants flow between economic states, and trades occur at dispersed prices. This generates motives for continued search for better market opportunities, and for bargaining between potential trading partners. This volume takes the empirical analysis of markets with frictions to a new level by using unique merged registers from Denmark on firm accounting data, individual employee data, and international trade data to estimate empirically the relevant flow rates, dispersions, and relations among key variables of interest, including productivity, firm size, wages, exports, growth, and unemployment. The results serve to inform researchers and policy makers about the functioning of markets, justify the interpretation of dispersion and flows as equilibrium outcomes, and provide an understanding of cycles, adjustment, and potentials for public policy.
