This open access book investigates the role played by copyright on the digitisation of cultural heritage from three angles: the theoretical differences between cultural property law and copyright; a comparative analysis of the EU, UK, and US; and analysis of current practices and concerns, based on empirical research. As heritage digitisation projects become increasingly common for purposes such as preservation and access, the impact of copyright is also becoming more problematic. In order to provide a full and current picture of the copyright problem, the book first introduces the reader to the debates on the scope and ownership of cultural heritage and provides an overview of the copyright implications of the digitisation process and newer uses, including 2D and 3D scanning; virtual and augmented reality; text and data mining; and artificial intelligence. The author then divides the main critical analysis into three parts, referred to as the 'clashes with copyright'. The first, clash in theory, lies between cultural property law and copyright justification theories. The second clash is in the different legal approaches to digitising in-copyright, public domain, orphan, out-of-commerce and unpublished works in the chosen jurisdictions, focusing on the relevant rights and defences. The third clash is in the interests of stakeholders, based on public reactions to existing projects and cases, supported by interviews with heritage professionals engaging in digitisation. By placing itself in this particular intersection of law, heritage, and technology, the book will be of interest to both intellectual property academics and cultural heritage professionals. By the 1940s the New York fashion industry had come into its own. Sportswear, which had evolved from its origins to include simple casual wear for travel, leisure, town and country, was at the centre of this shift. Drawing on an array of sources, this book examines how New York sportswear evolved during the 1930s and 1940s to become the definitive American style. It reveals how designers such as Claire McCardell, Clare Potter and Tina Leser created a fashion identity for New York that was as dynamic and modern as the city itself. Author Rebecca Arnold interrogates the American ideal of athletic, long-limbed women and looks for the first time at how sportswear impacted and was impacted by ideas of patriotism and democracy, as well as its links to notions of cleanliness and hygiene, and to 1930s theories of body image and contemporary dance. This book provides an overview of male violence against women and the failure of the legal system. 

Male violence against women is pervasive. From the bedroom to the boardroom; from the home to the hospital; from the court to the care home, women are subject to male violence. The legal response to this is weak. The violence is either invisible or downplayed. This book explains why and how the law can do better. 

It explores how violence in different settings reinforces and magnifies the abuse in others. Too often violence against women is considered in silos (sexual assault; domestic abuse; street harassment, etc.). The book argues that they must be seen on a continuum. It brings out the common themes, but also the subtle differences in context between the scenes of violence. In doing so it argues that we cannot understand an incident of male violence against women without understanding the broader context within which that takes place. The book claims that the legal response to male violence against women downplays the severity of the harm or even fails to recognise it. 

This is a must-read for those interested in criminal law, gender politics, and feminist approaches to law. It is only when the true nature of the problem is grasped that the law can start to provide an effective response to it. This book shows how a better and more effective law can be found.

Patterns of Economic Change by State and Area: Income, Employment, and Gross Domestic Product is a special edition of Business Statistics of the United States. It presents data on personal income, employment, and gross domestic product for the United States as a whole, and by region, state, and metropolitan statistical area (MSA). Data on personal income and employment extends back to 1960 for the states and regions and to 1970 for the MSAs.
