Der Theorie-Praxis-Transfer gestaltet sich gerade in der Ergotherapieausbildung häufig schwierig, da die in der Bildungseinrichtung vermittelten Inhalte nicht immer ohne Weiteres in der Praxis erkenn- und umsetzbar sind. Um diesem Problem zu begegnen und eine dem aktuellen Paradigma entsprechende Ergotherapieausbildung zu unterstützen, haben die Autorinnen im Rahmen der Entwicklung eines umfassenden Konzeptes zur Durchführung der praktischen Ausbildung in der Ergotherapie 78 Lernaufgaben formuliert - 36 für den Orientierungseinsatz und 42 für die Vertiefungseinsätze. Originally published in 1964, at a time of much public unease regarding redundancy, this book contains the results of a comprehensive survey, inspired by a suggestion of the then Minister of Labour that the mass redundancies in the Midlands motor industry of 1956 merited a full-scale investigation. The findings are based on an analysis of a 1 in 10 sample of men made redundant in Birmingham in the period. Among the matters examined are the difficulties encountered in obtaining work after redundancy; the range of geographical mobility and the role played by the then employment exchanges in securing new employment. Other chapters focus on the financial hardship caused; the resort to savings and the impact of the redundancies on the gender balance in the workforce. The impact of the dismissals on trade union affiliation is also considered, as are the men's verdicts on the 'fairness' of the selection procedure adopted.

Challenging the notion that intermediaries involved in the Anglo-American ceramic trade from the late 18th into the 19th century were simply motivated by maximizing profits and widespread market demands, Ewin's alternative approach demonstrates the value of taking their culture, identity and conscience into account. The geographic gap between the British manufacturer and the American consumer meant that those involved in mercantile activities assumed a highly significant role. Ewins analyses a range of sources including city directories, advertisements, newspapers and family trees to identify those involved in the ceramic trade, supplemented by archival material relating to the Wainwright and Ovington families. Illustrated with examples of ceramics and engravings, chapters explore how the intermediaries commissioned and marketed ceramics for different reasons, influenced by their political, social, religious and moral views. Ewins investigates how culture and a strong sense of identity, the abolition movement, kinship and family ties, religious beliefs and community, and the interracial experience all played a part in the manufacture, distribution and consumption of ceramics in the US market.
