Bachelor Thesis from the year 2017 in the subject Business economics - Trade and Distribution, grade: 1,0, Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, language: English, abstract: The International Maritime Organization confirmed in 2016 the introduction of a global sulphur cap in 2020, establishing a 0.5% sulphur content limit in fuels. All shipping companies operating in international waters will be affected by this emission regulation. LNG as a maritime fuel is widely thematised in current discussions regarding alternatives to achieve compliance, as it brings in the most significant environmental benefits. However, the current LNG-use is scarce, as vessels operating with LNG accounts for ca. 0.1% of the global fleet, and are mainly located in the Baltic region. To gain significance as a marine fuel, LNG has several challenges to overcome. LNGs main hurdle is the lack of bunkering infrastructure, which discourage its adoption by shipping companies, generating the so-called chicken-and-egg problem. Although small-scale bunkering facilities are already available, mostly in Northern Europe, the required infrastructure for large vessels is not provided. This study looks at the relevance of LNG as a maritime fuel with the focus on the forthcoming global sulphur cap, from the perspective of a small and a large shipping company, in their decision-making to achieve compliance. Thereby, major drivers and impediments considered by both shipping companies for its adoption as well as their forecast regarding the future of LNG in the shipping industry are discussed.

Today, more than 80 percent of global energy comes from coal, gas and oil. A completely renewable and electric energy system (All-Electric) is a distant dream, perhaps not even that.

Time is of the essence. That is why we need to use all climate-neutral and secure energy sources immediately: Renewable, fossil with CO2 capture and nuclear energy-ALL IN! instead of All-Electric. Because fossil emissions are the problem, not fossil fuels. 

Climate neutrality can only be achieved pragmatically, open to technology and together in a symbiosis of technology and nature. Masterarbeit aus dem Jahr 2023 im Fachbereich BWL - Investition und Finanzierung, Note: 1,30, Universität Regensburg (Betriebswirtschaftslehre), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Diese zentralen Fragen sollen in der Arbeit beantwortet werden: Performen Schifffahrtsunternehmen besser als der Markt und werden Investoren für die scheinbar hohe Volatilität kompensiert? Welches Schifffahrtssegment performt im direkten Vergleich besser? Um diesen Fragen nachzugehen wird das Risiko-Rendite-Profil des Schifffahrtssektors im Rahmen eines breit angelegten Zeitraums quantifiziert. Damit die Performance des Sektors differenziert analysiert werden kann, werden weltweit börsennotierte Frachtreedereien der Container-, Gas-, Massengut- und Tankerbranche in Portfolios überführt und mit konventionellen Benchmarks verglichen. Die Performanceanalyse basiert auf dem CAPM. Der Aufbau der Arbeit gliedert sich wie folgt: In Kapitel 2 erfolgt zunächst ein Literaturüberblick. Anschließend wird in Kapitel 3 die Portfoliokonstruktion erläutert sowie die Datenbasis und Methodik vorgestellt. Die Performanceanalyse in Kapitel 4 sowie die Robustheitstests in Kapitel 5 fußen auf der wissenschaftlichen Fundierung aus Kapitel 2. Die Arbeit schließt mit einer Zusammenfassung der Ergebnisse in Kapitel 6.Der globale Handel bildet die Basis wirtschaftlichen Wachstums und ist auf den Transport von Gütern angewiesen. Eine zentrale Rolle übernimmt dabei der Schifffahrtssektor, zumal der internationale Handel zu 80% über den Seeweg abgewickelt wird. Als alternative Assetklasse findet der Sektor in der Forschungs- und Investorenlandschaft im Vergleich zu alternativen Anlagen, wie Immobilien, jedoch wenig Beachtung. Dabei werden auf Portfolioebene die Diversifikationsvorteile und attraktiven Renditemöglichkeiten des Sektors aufgezeigt. Wirtschaftliche Analysen sind aber meist ganzheitlich auf den Sektor beschränkt, obwohl die einzelnen Segmente unterschiedlichen Treibern und Risiken folgen. Daher ist es schon kurz- bis mittelfristig herausfordernd die Zukunft des Marktes mit verlässlichen Daten zu prognostizieren. Dies spiegelt sich durch eine hohe Sektor-Volatilität wider, die potentielle Investoren abschreckt. Gleichzeitig werden Schifffahrtsaktien in der Literatur mit Lotterien gleichgesetzt. Dabei scheinen jüngst in Zeiten wirtschaftlicher Unsicherheit, während der Corona-Pandemie, Reedereien von Containerschiffen überdurchschnittlich profitiert zu haben. Dies ist auf wissenschaftlicher Ebene bisher nur eingeschränkt untersucht worden.

Tesis de Máster del año 2018 en eltema Economía - Economía industrial, Nota: 8, Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Applied Economics), Idioma: Español, Resumen: En este trabajo será analizado el efecto de la evolución del mercado de gas natural de España en las estrategias empresariales en upstream y midstream, concretando los casos de Repsol y Gas Natural Fenosa. La volatilidad y los cambios en el mercado de gas natural en Europa, han sido paulatino y arraigado en varios factores internos, entre ellos en las reformas y cambios regulatorios. Del mismo modo, la evolución del mercado de gas natural en España no ha estado separada de las estrategias de las empresas multinacionales que están encargadas de la explotación y el suministro de este commodity al mercado español. A medida que el mercado del gas se desarrolla después de la liberalización en 1998, las estrategias empresariales de buscar fuentes internacionales y el suministro se van adaptando al mismo. Las estrategias han sido sobre todo reacciones ante el consumo en el mercado de gas y electricidad en España, pero también ante los proyectos de la UE sobre la conexión comunitaria de gas y creación del mercado organizado para estabilizar los precios a largo plazo. La nueva fase de la cadena global del transporte y suministro del GNL es una de las consecuencias de la emergencia de los nuevos paradigmas en los mercados europeos, incluido España.
