Master's Thesis from the year 2018 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 82,0, Sheffield Hallam University, language: English, abstract: The centrepiece of this dissertation consists of the answer to the question of how SMEs from the Mexican software industry take advantage of both local and external sources for knowledge exchange in order to promote the own innovation activities. The corresponding insights counteract some inconsistencies regarding the mainstream research on open innovation activities, which were spotted during the literature review and specifically refer to the niche existence of SMEs and knowledge-driven clusters from emerging economies of Latin America and a major lack of a holistic perspective on the local situation and context. In structural terms, it is worth mentioning that the golden thread of this dissertation follows a specific structure, starting with a literature review as the basis for the research question and the propositions. Then, the track of thoughts is continued with the explanation of a justified methodological idea, the documentation of the results, the analysis of the collected data and the discussion of the analysis’ contribution to the current state of knowledge. The lessons learned from this case study and suggestions for future research form the closing element of this document. For a thorough coverage of this research gap, the author deployed a methodological construct consisting of a multiple case study strategy, mixed with an interpretivist philosophy and a predominantly inductive approach. Additionally, he resorted to a qualitative mono method featuring semi-structured interviews with open questions, realized within a cross-sectional time horizon between the middle of February and the middle of March. The target group comprised the CEOs of three software SMEs from the clusters of Mexico City and Monterrey, who voluntarily participated in said interviews after having agree to the sent e-mail requests.Although the results underwent a triangulation and the conclusions may sound plausible, they still require an extensive reconfirmation in the given context, what might be attained via a series of additional inductive and qualitative multiple case studies covering more SMEs from several Mexican software clusters. A transition towards more deductive, longitudinal and quantitative studies would be only sensible if the previously mentioned kind of studies led to a basis reflecting the situation of these SMEs unambiguously.

Open Innovation Strategies Applied by SMEs from Mexican Software Clusters. A Multiple Case Study Analysis

Academic Paper from the year 2021 in the subject Business economics - Investment and Finance, grade: 1,7, International School Of Management, Campus Frankfurt, language: English, abstract: This term paper will start with describing some basic characteristics of Coco-Bonds and their market behaviour. This first chapter should help to understand the product itself and its features. Afterwards the basic idea behind Basel III and resulting regulations under CRD and CRR are described and linked to Coco-Bonds as a product. In the last chapter it is discussed whether and under which circumstances Coco-Bonds belong to the equity capital of a bank and thus strengthen the equity base. After the financial crisis in 2008 one of the main objectives the regulatory- and supervisory authority had, was to strengthen and increase the equity base of banks. This should ensure a better preparation for coming crises. In October 2011 the Basel Committee set the stage for a financial product, allowing it to play a ma-jor role in building up regulatory equity capital, as defined in Basel III. The product to reach the regulatory requirements are Contingent Convertible Bonds (short: Coco-Bonds). These bonds are a niche financial product which, as a result of the increasing regulatory requirements, in recent years were often issued by banks. Although these securities are issued as a bond with a fixed coupon, in case of a certain event, the Coco-Bonds are converted into equity or are written off. Due to this, Coco-Bonds often pay a high coupon rate, which could make them, especially within the currently low interest rate environment, look like an attractive investment. However a high coupon payment always means a related risk.

Coco-Bonds as a Method of Equity Boost

Who is telling the story to whom is the single most important question about any work of fiction; the answer is central to everything from style and tone to plot and pacing. Using hundreds of examples from Jane Austen to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Leo Tolstoy to Stephen King, novelist and longtime MFA professor Lisa Zeidner dives deep into the points of view we are most familiar with-first and third person-and moves beyond to second-person narration, frame tales, and even animal points of view. Engaging and accessible, Who Says? presents any practicing writer with a new system for choosing a point of view, experimenting with how it determines the narrative, and applying these ideas to revision.

Seminar paper from the year 2020 in the subject Engineering - Industrial Engineering and Management, Coventry University (Faculty of Engineering, Environment and Computing), course: Oil and Gas Management (MSc), language: English, abstract: The primary objective of this study will be to work out the financial performance of oil marketing companies (OMCs) in Ghana during petroleum price regulation and deregulation regimes. The researcher adopts the event study design and sampling strategy of purposive random sampling techniques in this study. In this study, the researcher seeks to evaluate the financial performance of oil market companies (OMCs) in Ghana during petroleum price regulation and deregulation regimes. The study also found that, after the deregulation of petroleum prices, there was positive growth in the company's gross sales. The positive effect of the company's financial performance can be attributed to the introduction of the petroleum price deregulation in the downstream petroleum industry. This is to say that the deregulation policy was gradually impacting favourably on the financial performance of the company.

An updated edition of the essential guide for all scientists--from undergraduates to senior scholars--who want to produce prose that anyone can understand. Scientific writing is often dry, wordy, and difficult to understand. But, as biologist and experienced teacher of scientific writing Anne E. Greene shows in Writing Science in Plain English, writers from all scientific disciplines can learn to produce clear, concise prose by mastering just a few simple principles. This short, focused guide presents roughly a dozen such principles based on what readers need to understand complex information, including concrete subjects, strong verbs, consistent terms, organized paragraphs, and correct sentence structure. Greene illustrates each principle with real-life examples of both good and bad writing and shows how bad writing might be improved. She ends each chapter with revision exercises (and provides suggested answers in a separate key) so that readers can come away with new writing skills after just one sitting. To help readers understand the grammatical terms used in the book, an appendix offers a refresher course on basic grammar. For this second edition, Greene has incorporated the latest research on what makes writing effective and engaging and has revised or replaced exercises and exercise keys where needed. She has also added new features that make it easier to navigate the book. A new resource for instructors who use Writing Science in Plain English in their classes is a free, online teacher's guide. Drawn from Greene's long experience teaching students how to write science clearly, the teacher's guide provides additional lectures, assignments, and activities that will inform and enliven any class.
