Die Zahl der an Demenz erkrankten Menschen steigt und damit stieg auch die Nachfrage nach diesem zwischenzeitlich vergriffenen Curriculum "Mit-Gefühlt". Nun liegt es in komplett überarbeiteter Form endlich vor.
Die Begleitung demenzkranker Menschen am Ende des Lebens erfordert spezielles Wissen. Demenz schreitet langsam voran und dabei gehen immer mehr Fähigkeiten verloren. Demenzkranke benötigen in der letzten Lebensphase Pflege und Betreuung rund um die Uhr. Die (verbale) Kommunikation ist gestört. Wir müssen umdenken: Menschen mit Demenz leben zwar in unserer Realität, aber in Ihrer eigenen Wirklichkeit. Wenn wir sie verstehen wollen, ist es notwendig, uns auf Ihre je "andere" Wirklichkeit einzulassen und diese anzuerkennen. Dazu braucht es Kenntnis über die Krankheit, Wissen über die Zugangswege, um mit den Kranken in Kontakt treten zu können und Sensibilität für die besondere Situation der Angehörigen.
Eine letzte Lebensphase lässt sich allerdings nicht, wie bei den meisten körperlichen Krankheiten (z.B. Tumorerkrankungen) konkret eingrenzen. Wann die letzte Lebensphase begonnen hat, kann häufig erst rückblickend erkannt werden. Aber die Würde des Demenzkranken ist auch im Sterben unantastbar. Die individuellen Wünsche des Kranken müssen im Mittelpunkt stehen. Hierzu gehören im Besonderen die Sicherung der Lebensqualität, die Linderung der Schmerzen und das Bedürfnis nach Geborgenheit.
Neu in der 2. Auflage:
Neu ist, dass wir unser Curriculum einem größeren Kreis von Interessenten öffnen wollten. Deshalb wurde das Modul I Hospizidee und Spiritualität neu vorangestellt. Die speziellen palliativ-pflegerischen und die palliativmedizinischen Aspekte wurden ebenfalls hinzugefügt.
Dem Thema "Situation pflegender Angehöriger" wurde ein stärkeres Gewicht beigemessen, da diese meist die wichtigsten Bezugspersonen sind. Angehörige müssen deshalb auch in den Sterbeprozess stärker einbezogen werden. Dies besitzt eine besondere Bedeutung, wenn es um schwierige Entscheidungen geht, die im Sinne des Demenzkranken und dessen Lebensqualität getroffen werden müssen - dies unabhängig davon ob zu Hause, in Heimen oder Krankenhäusern.----
