Resabiados Y Resentidos

It has become increasingly common to discredit the great modern worldviews, arguing that their attempts to realize ideals have ended in failure. The first to be criticized was Enlightenment leftism, following the collapse of real socialism. This was followed by other failures--wars, crises, ecological disasters--which also affected liberalism, unable to build a better society. All this has fostered a collective sense of defeat: we no longer understand reality, nor do we know how to relate to it. We once believed we could; now we feel intellectually disillusioned and politically frustrated. As a Benjaminian might say, we live among ruins.
