The Justice Motive in Multilateral Negotiations

Rechtsradikales Verhalten nimmt in allen westlichen Demokratien zu, oft sehr schnell. Frühere Untersuchungen haben jedoch gezeigt, dass sich politische Einstellungen und Präferenzen nicht so schnell ändern. Dieses Buch argumentiert, dass man zum Verständnis der zugrundeliegenden Muster die entscheidende Rolle sozialer Normen als Triebkräfte für politisches Verhalten akzeptieren muss. Aufbauend auf einer normenbasierten Theorie von politischem Angebot und Nachfrage wird gezeigt, dass das wachsende rechtsradikale Verhalten bei denjenigen Personen angetrieben wird, die bereits rechtsradikale Ansichten hatten, diese aber bisher nicht offen zum Ausdruck brachten, weil sie diese für gesellschaftlich inakzeptabel hielten. Das Buch zeigt, wie politische Präferenzen in Verhalten umgesetzt werden, und wie soziale Normen die Interaktion von politischem Angebot und Nachfrage beeinflussen und verdeutlicht, wie eine politische Kultur, die Inklusion fördert, erodieren kann.

Administrative procedure is often perceived as a nuisance by those involved: by individuals seeking an action, service or permission from the state as well as by members of the administration wanting to pursue an action against an individual or refusing to act in her favour. Both sides may view administrative procedure as an unwelcome hurdle on their way to reach their objectives. This perception, however, clouds the value and importance of administrative procedure for the individual in modern legal systems. It is not an end in itself but protects individuals against arbitrary state action.

This book explores the connection between international human rights law and administrative procedure. In particular, it discusses potential justifications for obligations of administrative procedure under international human rights law, their doctrinal construction, and their implementation as well as the scope of review of courts.

Culinary Man and the Kitchen Brigade offers an exploration of the field of normative subjectivity circulated within western fine dining traditions, presenting a theoretical analysis of the governing relationship between the chef, who embodies the Culinary Man, and the fine dining brigade.The book offers a unique treatment of western haute cuisine's interlocking regime of labor and aesthetics and theorizes the underexplored kitchen brigade as a model of disciplinary formation. It deploys a heterogeneous set of disciplinary discourses and practices which have the effect of consolidating monopolies on epistemic authority and governance. Each position within the brigade's hierarchy is subject to distinct, though related, disciplinary practices. Thus, chapters identify the specific practices pertinent to each brigade subject, while also illuminating how they fit together as a coherent hegemonic project. The application of Wynterian and Foucauldian insight to the fine dining brigade offers a political theory of culinary work which departs from other food studies texts. Notably, this work offers an in-depth treatment of the brigade's colonial dimensions which resonate with emerging critiques, scholarly and general, of the race and gender politics of restaurant labor.
