&lt;div&gt;This book evaluates how the legal, institutional and policy frameworks for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) in the United States, South Africa and Kenya have addressed the current needs and challenges involved in these systems’ operation and integration into regulatory frameworks for civil aviation. It shows how the three states have developed their own constitutional frameworks, legislation, regulations, policies and strategic plans to address the challenges that emanate from integrating UAS into the civil aviation airspace.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;The book details the three countries’ integration experiences, investigating the extent to which existing international regulatory frameworks address the various concerns, and identifies the common thread that runs through UAS regulation, as well as each country’s unique issues and path to integration. This book covers MASS regulation, technology, and policy. MASS development began with the realization of the 4th industrial revolution technologies such as big data, AI, IoT, and communication, which were also linked to technological development in the maritime field. However, it is still unclear how MASS will operate. This book is divided into three parts: MASS regulation, technology, and policy, and explains each part in detail.


Part I "MASS regulation and safety" deals with IMO works for MASS, including IMO MASS RSE results which has been finished in 2021. In addition, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), one of the most important international conventions to be considered for MASS operation, will be dealt with and various safety considerations will be explained in detail. Through this, this book explains in detail the regulatory considerations and safety considerations for MASS. In particular, the gaps and themes identified in IMO MASS RSE and the priority discussion needs are explained, and based on this, the development of a goal-based non-mandatory MASS code currently in progress is discussed. UNCLOS is a convention like the blueprint of the IMO Conventions, and it is very important to understand and meet the requirements of UNCLOS for the operation of MASS. Therefore, this book provides a detailed explanation of the application of UNCLOS. In particular, UNCLOS Article 94 would be a very important consideration. Also, this book covers COLREGs and technologies for MASS operations.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has permeated our every-day lives. What once was solely a human task, has now been taken over by AI. May it be credit card approvals, customer support, financial transactions, medical imaging or software development, there is AI working behind the scenes. 
Outer space, historically always amongst the most developed domains, has not remained untouched for long and space applications have started to increasingly rely on AI. However, this increase in use also leads to a myriad of legal issues, particularly the issue of responsibility and liability under Article VI and Article VII of the Outer Space Treaty and the Liability Convention. Our legal norms, may they be domestic or international in nature, are ultimately built around human behaviour and when applied to AI might not function. Should damage caused by an AI-enabled space object arise, it proves difficult to assess the responsibility of the appropriate State party under Article VI of the Outer Space Treaty, or the liability of the launching State. 
While legal literature is primarily concerned with domestic legal issues arising from the use of AI, an in-depth analysis concerning State responsibility and liability for AI-enabled space activities is absent. Space legal literature strongly favours a view advocating for the creation of new "hard law" in form of new binding legal instruments, or the amendment of existing law. Suggestions de lege ferenda are often relied on by authors. 
Given the inherent difficulty in creating new law, or amend existing legal instruments, this book proposes to look towards the lex lata and argues that the existing legal norms of State responsibility, State liability and treaty law are sufficient to govern the responsibility of States for their AI-enabled apace activities. The present research looks at these issues from a public international law perspective and proposes a solution within the lex lata.
