Dr. Hermann Hirschfeld, jüdischer Arzt und Balneologe, stand bisher zu Unrecht im Schatten seines Sohnes, des berühmten Sexualtherapeuten Magnus Hirschfeld. Hermann Hirschfelds medizinisches Feld waren Bade- und Solekuren, mit denen er seine von weither angereisten Patienten nach einem modernen, ganzheitlichen Ansatz therapierte. Er leistete einen wesentlichen Beitrag zur Transformation der preußischen Festungsstadt Kolberg zu einem Norderney der Ostsee. Aus Dankbarkeit für Hirschfelds Wirken errichtete ihm die Stadt Kolberg nach seinem Tod ein Denkmal, das in der NS-Zeit zerstört wurde. Neben seiner Biografie wird hier auch Hirschfelds Darstellung der Bäder- und Soletherapien wiedergegeben. Ein Reiseprospekt Kolbergs aus dem Jahr 1910 beschließt das Buch.
